As a Jesuit institution I was very impressed with their inclusivity as well as the amazing credentials of the teaching staff. They are able enforce rules that the public school system is sorely lacking. My oldest son learned so much from his teachers and developed a passion for engineering through work at the "IC" which is innovation commons. He learned to 3-D print, program and loved the remote control club. This launched him into a career in aeronautical engineering. My younger son took enough AP courses that he is almost a year ahead and will be able to triple major as a result at Syracuse University. The dean, President and staff are so supportive. Their mission programs are also a unique offering that is life changing. My older son went on a mission to Peru that changed his life! It was hard work physically, but I was most impressed by the attitude change. He learned a lot about himself and the world around him. And, although my husband is an alumni of OLPH, I did not want that to influence my decision. However, I simply could not deny how comfortable I immediately felt and how impressed I was with the tour. It started with the kindness that I received as I walked into the office to start my tour. Another parent overheard that I was touring and welcomed me and told me about how happy she was with the school and the faith community. My tour guide Maria was so patient and knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. And let me tell you I threw a lot at her as I'd done my homework! One thing that struck me was that no matter where we went on campus, there were connections. It became clear how much teachers and staff truly love what they do. Multiple teachers have 20+ year legacies, while others are former alumni, and still others started as homeroom moms and are now on the administrative staff! What makes them stay? Their dedication to educating children and providing a faith-based environment, their devotion to their teaching ministry, and the amazing staff they work with every day to shape our children into kind, responsible young people. It isn't just the teachers who have this legacy, but it's also the parents. In fact, there are some families who have sent three generations to the school! Like my husband, many former graduates send their children to OLPH. This is what makes the community unique and special. Then, there is the academics. With small class sizes and highly qualified teachers, your child will be set up for success. Besides the core subjects, every class from K-8 learns Spanish. Additionally, the school has a Science Technology Engineering Art and Math (STEAM) room where creativity blooms. Lastly, as a faith-based school, religion is interwoven into the curriculum. The day begins with morning prayer and students volunteer to do readings over the loud speaker for all to hear. With weekly Mass and Sacrament preparation included in the day, children become full members of the church by the end of the third grade. Not Catholic? No problem! Although religion is a required part of the curriculum, receiving the Sacraments is a personal choice and many families choose our school with different religious or non-religious beliefs. We have a great sports program, wonderful pre- and post-school care, after school homework help, and so many fun enrichment programs to extend the day. How the diocese allows this school to deny their own based on one person's opinion is scary. So parents do not be discouraged if your child is denied admission here since they are "selective". Then around 6th grade the schools then principle died from cancer and Ms. Elliot took over in her place as the new principle after that the school went from a fun learning environment to a horrid lockdown strict hellhole. After Ms. Elliot came into power, they locked the gates and installed new ones; this gave me a very unsafe insecure feeling as they basically locked us in. They installed secretary camera's everywhere. They also took down the old playground equipment and installed newer "safer" equipment which basically sucked. Then they changed the way they release students to school making a "drop off lane" it was horrid and I had to wait 30+ mins in the hot sun for my mom to drive through the line to pick me up. Before the lane it took me 3 mins to walk to my mom's car and leave. They outsourced the lunch food to a horrid company that made the worst garbage not fit for human consumption. Even though the school upgraded the playground, cameras and the Jail gates, they never upgraded the classrooms, cafeteria, buildings and "blacktop". They said they would get rid of the nasty portable buildings by 2004 but here they are, in 2009 still standing! In fact they built way more crappy portable buildings where the old playground used to be! There are many things the school promised to renovate but they never got to it the management is generally lazy. As far as academics, the classes are harder then any of the classes I've experienced at Brophy College prep, they push grade-schoolers extremely hard I had about 2-4hrs of homework every night. They teach algebra and chemistry at the college level in GRADESCHOOL! 2-4 page research papers were common assignments for various classes each week in 7-8th grade. They always told us it had to be formatted in Perfect MLA format for high school, truth is Brophy's workload was WAY MORE LIENENT and less then SFX ever was.

We…read morehad to pull our amazing 4.0 daughter after just 2 months at this school for her emotional, spiritual and academic wellbeing. 1) the owners of the school (yes it's privately owned and the "board" is a couple of hand picked friends) have zero experience with education or school leadership. They have an extreme view of punishment (and use that word rather than discipline for a reason) and punish in public~ in front of teachers and students. They believe they are doing it in a "godly and compassionate" way and if the child is humiliated and harmed it is because the child must have problems. 2) the school is not accredited by the state of Arizona or any other accrediting body that is recognized by the state. If your child goes here for any amount of time and then switches to a private or public school, that school will not recognize any of the courses taken at Tipping Point. Once they get you at the school, they know it is hard for you to leave because your child will have to test into their grade at another school. If your child is in high school, they will lose all of their credits or they will have to audit their classes, assuming they are early enough in the semester to do that. Otherwise, they would lose that semester and any coursework done at that school. For most students, this would literally mean retaking all of their high school classes or being forced to get a GED instead of a high school diploma. I have spoken to the head of education at SUSD and this is solid information. I believe our family and daughter were treated extremely badly because they assumed we could not go anywhere else since we were two months into the semester. 3) if you send your child to the school, you are giving two people who have zero experience in running a school total control over your child. If you disagree with them on discipline/ emotional abuse/ educational issues, they will tell you~ as they told us, that your child is not allowed to return the school until you agree with them, in writing, that they can punish and treat your child any way they feel is best, without notifying you. That in and of itself is abusive, especially to a 4.0 student with a perfect behavior record. My Godly daughter left this school using the word "hypocrites", which was not the spiritual experience we were hoping for, yet it truly led to her understanding the true Christian faith in a whole new way. She also experienced that if your parent doesn't work at the school that you will be excluded and treated as less than by others. Overall just a horrible experience that God used for her best. We are very thankful to be gone.

We brought these concerns to the school administration. We were deeply disappointed by how the situation was handled. Shawn Bell did not take action in a way we felt protected our daughter or addressed similar concerns raised by other students. To our knowledge, the teacher remained employed at the time we withdrew our children. Because of this experience and the school's response, our family chose not to continue enrollment.

Maybe it's the fact that Mrs. Kendrick the school principal retired and the school's feel changed. But I don't feel my son had any growth during the second year. I knew once Mr. Shappee left that there was no way my other son would go here. I saw major bullying at this school as well, among other issues. My son enjoyed seventh grade here, went to Costa Rica for 10 days which he will cherish forever but I really feel that PVUSD just isn't what it could be or has been in years past. Sad really.
