Upon answering the phone, Jamie was extremely defensive and said she would not be giving me a credit or a refund without bringing the piece in first and continued on about how this was an oversight and didn't warrant a review. Bottom line: I called to try and set up another appointment and instead she decided to ramble on to me about how inappropriate of a review this was. I tried in between her continual angry rant explain that I was not able to contact her first about it. When I picked up my piece I tried calling. After her response to my review I tried calling. Jamie became progressively became rude and argumentative despite me just wanting to support a local business. Again, I tried calling multiple times even after I left the place with my project. I waited on hold multiple times, left a message, and attempted to communicate this to her, but she only continued to argue, despite my minimal engagement and direct statement of intent to inquire about the post she left and come back. Terrible customer service. Honestly left the phone call shaken by how a customer could be treated for wanting to come back and inquiring about the response to a review. Disappointed because we had fun the first time and wanted to try it again. Update to Jamie's response of slandering a customer: Never did I ask for a free session! I called asking to set up an appointment for tomorrow and asked since I was going in what my options were for the project that the original post was about! Maybe if she wasn't so busy accusing me of being "inhumane" for an honest review she could have understood what I communicated to the first individual who answered the phone!! So after being yelled at by her and my character attacked for writing a review I told her I was no longer interested in bringing my piece in as it was a gift anyway for someone. Jamie came on the phone ready to just argue and accuse me of being a bad person for writing a review. It's hurtful to be accused and responded to this way for vocalizing my experience. Over the phone Jamie was extremely disrespectful and disruptive. It's unbelievable to be accused of a false review for stating my experience and being extremely disrespected. Sorry Jamie, you will not intimidate me or bully with your business practices or argumentative behavior.

The person who is helping us seem very inexperienced or not a regular worker there. Most of the staff was occupied with a party and kind of just left us in the back without much tools. They didn't give us a lot of direction so we had to ask every single time for help. They also didn't have the price on some thing & made us wait about a half an hour for the price before we could leave so we were unable to pay.

Emilia and two other assistants help run the party. We opted for the extra time with dancing, music, and bubbles; and I thought it was a great way to break up the time between painting and cake. (The kids loved it, too.) There are a lot of awesome pieces to choose from - something for everyone. There are also coloring pages if anyone needs an additional sit down activity. PPP did a great job with decorations. There's truly no need to bring additional ones. Thank you for taking care of serving the food and clean up! The bathroom is downstairs, which is manageable but means the kids need to be escorted downstairs for the most part.

The irony of going to see an exhibition about the crime ridden streets of 80's Times Square in the rapidly gentrifying Lower East Side was not lost upon me as I walked past street art painted on brick even as a new glass and steel hotel rose up into the sky casting a shadow on a nearby Chinese supermarket. It was, to me, a very contradictory set of images. The gallery itself is so non-descript that if you are not looking for it, you will walk right past it. There is no giant sign, so if you are going there, just keep an eye out for the building number. When you see the door that looks like it goes into some random office, that's the one. The front area has a small counter where the folks running the gallery are situated. You go in and there is a wide open space with a column in the middle. I have no idea what this space was before, but clearly it was not always a gallery. I almost wished the walls and ceilings could talk. There are four walls large enough to hold paintings the size of a person, and I found standing around where the column was gave you some of the best views. To my surprise, there was a smaller room in the back with some more art. This was a separate exhibition than the main room. The walls aren't quite as big there and there is not as much room to stand so this is where the smaller paintings were displayed. I wound up purchasing Dickson's book and the staff was super nice about it, making sure to bring me out a fresh, shrink wrapped copy and thanking me for my visit. I had a nice, brief visit to the James Fuentes gallery and I would happily go again.

I did not spend much time here because the large explicit paintings were hard to digest and despite the great number of paintings exhibited, the large space was half empty. I count these incredible Thursdays among my favorite things about living in Manhattan. Along the gallery walk Metro is usually our first stop as it's conveniently snuggled in central gallery zone...plus they usually have pretty heavy names hanging on their walls. Last night we checked out the André Butzer exhibition "Nicht fürchten! Dont be scared!" which were a series of bright and colorful, textured abstracts. The art was beautiful and people even more so; truly the perfect start to our cultured journey.

Speaking of, Cindy Sherman fans take note: an exhibition of her new work is on display at Metro Pictures until the 23rd of December 2008. The results are stunning and should not be missed. These highly detailed and manipulated portraits are eerily fascinating. Knowing that she is not only the photographer but also the artist, stylist and model in front of the camera makes these images that much more compelling.

Tours are given and I highly recommend taking one. There are QR codes in the rooms, and a guide on the Bloomberg Connects App, but Angelique gave an excellent tour! She kindly answered all my questions after each room's description and made this 3 story historical gem come to life. Only thing that would've made the tour better would be to come back in Spring when the garden is in bloom.

Unreliable. Barry Frier, owner/operator, and Crew at Baobab…read moreFrames & Art Services completely lack integrity. The absence of professional character reminds me why I stopped buying works on paper and photography for 7 years. Barry is a panic-prone, anxiety-ridden proprietor who breaches his contractual promises and legal obligations with impunity; and, takes no responsibility for his (lack of) actions. And, when he fails to meet his professional obligations, his team make excuses for him. Barry and team agree to frame art works and photography, then after holding onto the work for 4-6 months, without any job performance, suddenly inform that the best course of action, is to decide not to do the framing. Then Barry claims he is doing us a favor and it's what's best for his patiently waiting customers, while the team pretends the art for framing isn't really there to be framed. All the while holding thousands of dollars in advance funds. Barry follows-up on his rotating excuses, weakness and failures by adding insult to injury, trying to blame me and my clients for his false claims, failures and faults, because we imposed no urgent deadlines. Further, it was not just our pieces which sat unopened without even making any attempt at framing; Barry openly admits and confirmed that he failed to perform and neglected to do framing for other clients for more than six months. Barry/Baobab is an embarrassment to a culture-based profession that's expected to bring joy, not aggravation. With erratic and unreliable "professionals" like Baobab, it's apparent that business ethics are dead. It's understandable that the courts are clogged with litigation - Baobab agrees to do framing work, collects advance fees, does nothing for months, then returns the art that still needs to be framed and thinks it's all resolved because the shop declares "not our fault." Whose fault is the shop's undependable and irresponsible disorganization? And, in returning art that Baobab accepted, some nearly 1/2 a year earlier, one piece was irreversibly damaged in its unnecessary transit and declared a total loss. Is that also not Baobab's fault? Thanks Baobab/Barry, I'll likely never again acquire art that requires framing. Barry cannot be trusted to be honest or timely render services. I would leave Zero stars if it were an option. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Integrity, honesty and generosity are words I would use to describe Mr. Frier. Quality and precision are words I would use to describe Baobab's work. I could easily summon up scores of people I know who have had their work framed at Baobab and the museums, galleries and institutions that have had experience hanging his meticulously framed work but I needn't bother. His reputation is solid and stellar- as it it should be.
