My better half had found Kate on Instagram and liked what she saw. She showed me and I genuinely liked some of the pictures. The pictures were...better. Had more of a real feel to them. Not that "here we are, oh so happy, rainbows and sparkles" type stuff you see almost everywhere. It seemed like *gasp* folks were actually having a good time. So she convinced me to line up a date for a one hour shoot, to look semi-presentable (coastal mountain town chic?) and then work got in the way. Kate was contacted and immediately rolled with the punches. We rescheduled and on the second try we met her. Kate is definitely someone who is engaging, sincere, makes you feel comfortable, knows how to capture the candid and staged moments, and has an innate understanding of how the whole session needs to flow. At one point our baby son decided he'd had enough of all the action and needed to be breastfed. Right then and there. So we plopped down, freed the nipple, and he was fed. Kate took some cool pics of that too and you know what? It was so natural and sweet...we'll cherish that moment for life. Time flew by and within a little over an hour we were done. She'd managed to take wonderful pictures of us as a family, including our four-legged beast, and individual ones of us each with our son. To say that I'm a tough one to convince to spend free time getting pictures taken would likely be an understatement but I'm now firmly onboard with Kate's methodology and would do it again. Emily took maternity photos of me and my husband when I was 36 weeks pregnant (May 2014), and then…read morenewborn photos when my daughter was one week old (June 2014). Our maternity shoot was in a park just before sunset and she did a wonderful job capturing the light, directing me and my husband (who are typically very awkward in posed photos), and incorporating small props we'd brought that we're meaningful to us as a couple. Our newborn shoot was at my home in the afternoon. Again, Emily was masterful at working with the light to compose beautiful photos. She was patient and gentle -- as you have to be when working with a newborn and her new mom -- and again brought her great ideas to the shoot to make sure we got a wonderful set of photos to remember our daughter at this age. Her prices were the most reasonable I found in northern Colorado; she doesn't charge a sitting fee or charge you for prints of photos like others in the area. She quickly turned around the sets of photos (within a day or two), and gave us the full-sized files digitally to download, post and print as we wished. That made it very easy to share with our families who live out of state. And she was flexible with our schedule for both sets of photos, even though we had to reschedule the maternity shoot multiple times for weather and schedule the newborn shoot quickly once our daughter was born. I'll definitely use Emily again to document other milestones in my family. Thanks to her for a great job!

But typically, when you pay less for something, you get something less and in the case of Emily, it's the opposite. She is AMAZING at what she does! We have had her taking our photos about every 6 months since my daughter was 6 mos old and I have yet to be disappointed in a single one I have seen. She has come to us in our home for our Christmas card photos (so we could get them in front of our tree), we have gone to her at scouted locations that never fail to be gorgeous. She is patient with small children (and adults who aren't great at looking natural) and even in very quick 30 minute shoots due to weather or cranky kids, we end up with more useable photos than we know what to do with! She also has a very quick turnaround time and you get High Def digital copies and smaller digital copies of all your photos, ready to be printed at your favorite 1 hour or on a beautfiul canvas for your wall. I don't think I've ever waited more than a week for my photos. I have recommended her to everyone who asks for a photographer, and I feel great doing it because I know they will LOVE the results.

Rachel was combing through her negatives during dinner. When she could have been taking a break, she was there working, sifting through thousands of outtakes to deliver us only the best shots. After being around Rachel at my wedding and seeing my photo's, one of my bridesmaids hired Rachel to shoot her wedding the following summer (See VH's review). She loves her photo's. My cousin also tried to book her for his wedding last fall, but she was already booked that weekend. Which brings me to my last point, If you like her work, book her fast!
