I was excited to see a banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) store in Chinatown since I didn't see many places selling banh mi during my time in Sydney. This store is located in a tiny corner next to the Eating World food court. I don't know if it would be considered part of the food court, because it is separated from the remaining vendors.
Anyways, this place was a disappointment. There was one worker inside, and she did not say a single word to me. She stared at me as I walked in. I felt uncomfortable, but got over it and asked for the salad roll (the only vegetarian option). I watched her make it. Then I paid her the $3.50 that it cost. She still did not say anything to me, and maintained a face that seemed to indicate boredom/uninterest. I said "bye" to her as I left and she actually did respond with "bye" although in a very dismissive tone.
So the service was completely terrible. The food wasn't much better. I've had much better Vietnamese sandwiches in San Jose, California. (I still need to try the places in Richmond St. in Melbourne!) I watched the worker start making the sandwich by adding a bunch of vegetables, which made me think "yay, this looks like it will be healthy!" But then she started adding all the sauces. After eating the sandwich, I was very very thirsty. I don't think it was due to the vegetables.
I would not come back to this place. read more
