It pains me to have to write this review. Phil was our accountant for almost 8 years, and he always…read moredid a great job. Unfortunately things changed this past year. Phil filed an extension for me in 2018 (as is customary for my family) and promised in writing that he would complete the taxes as soon as he could. I sent him everything, fully expecting that he would file with the IRS and bill me after as usual. I became a little concerned when he never responded to my multiple e-mails at the time, but figured he had everything he needed. Not once did it ever occur to me that he hadn't filed the taxes. Fast-forward to six months later, when the Covid scare began. I never received a government relief check and didn't understand why. After doing some extensive digging, I realized the government did not have a copy of my 2018 taxes. I thought there must have been some mistake. So I called and e-mailed Phil, but never received a response even after saying I was very concerned and needed to know if the taxes had been filed. They hadn't. I also wanted to be sure he had been paid for his work and that the forms hadn't gone to an old address by mistake. Sadly I had to hire a new accountant and am now fighting the IRS over $2,500 in late penalty fees. Had Phil called to say there had been some mistake and that he was sorry, I would have possibly understood. But to never receive any response after 8 years of working together is extremely unprofessional and disturbing.

I don't know what it is about accountants or why the profession seems to attract so many characters. I'm just glad after years and years of switching accountants, I've finally found someone that I feel good about sticking with. Despite a career in financial services, I could not be any less interested or engaged in my own personal finances if I tried. I'm a designer by trade; a chef who tastes none of his own food. I'm pretty good at what I do. But when it comes to taxes or being able to answer even the most basic of questions my accountant asks of me, I'm just a complete philistine. I make money. I spend money. And I live by one simple, but very effective rule: don't spend more than you make. The rest I leave up to the professionals. Needless to say, accountants have a lot of fun with me. Michael was no exception. But working with him was such a pleasure. He took all of the pain and agita out of the process with his calm demeanor and super-efficient means of walking us through all the details we needed to know to file an honest and speedy return. There was no dropping off paperwork and coming back weeks later to see if it was done. There was no unnecessary chit-chat or idle back and forth. My wife and I simply came to our Saturday afternoon appointment and were in and out in less than an hour. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Michael's great. I highly recommend.
