Apparently, it's the oldest bar in the state of the country or something like that. It's in a basement. It's very grungy. The drinks are extremely reasonable. Nothing fancy service from bartenders is average. Very big college bar.

If you are 21, hit this place up. Are you 22? Cool, you should go here too. The day you walk across the stage and collect your college diploma should probably be the last day you go to this bar. Phyrst is your quintessential college dive bar. Small confining space, guys wearing super tight tshirts showing off the one condom that has been in their wallet since 11th grade, girls wearing high heels and little else, bouncers with muscles as big as your head, cheap booze, loud live music, one working toilet in the bathroom, sticky wet floor...you get the idea. Within the first 5 minutes, I slipped and completely wiped out flat on my back on the floor. Grown ups, enter at your own risk. College kids, live it up.

My second home.... worth the wait in line. Almost always live music. Pitch deals are fantastic and so is the happy hour.

Watered down drinks. But that's Standard I guess for state college. Good bouncers. Great music.

B I G Vibe Small Bar Bit Noisy…read more We stopped in Local Whiskey during our stay in lovely State College PA. Our local friends recommended the sister bar/restaurants (Local Whiskey and Central Reservation) and we were glad they did. We enjoyed delicious craft cocktails professionally made by the bar staff and enjoyed a delicious Strawberry salad. Bar had pos decor with great tile work - we felt like we were in NYC. We had a great happy hour at Local Whiskey because the staff was polite and professional. We did find the decibel level in the bar extreme. My wife's smart watch gave her (a first ever) decibel warning. Unfortunately it was so loud she and I could not have a conversation so we left.

I don't drink alcohol so I can't speak to their bar or other food. 5/5 Food: where to start with the burger- its thick patty has a great crisp outside and medium inside and is graced by nicely cooked bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and a proper amount of sauce. The fries are classic, semi mush-semi crisp fries with coarse grained salt. The meal with a delicious burger that outdoes any other I've had in state college, even those that cost close to $20. Walking out the door, the meal (fries, burger, drink) cost 8.05, and I was happy to leave a larger than 20% tip to make it $10 even. I challenge you to find a better burger in state college, regardless of price. Honestly, my MBA-trained senses obsessed over what their business model might be and I'm hoping that it was providing enough for the owners and staff. 3.5/5 Service: Friendly. It was really busy when we were there and it was a tad slow, but we also had a group that came in at different times. 4/5 Ambiance: nice-ish college bar inside, clean bathrooms. Only complaint is that the booth table was too tall for the chairs, I felt like I would have been better suited to kneel to eat my burger than sit (I had one friend who did kneel to meet the height of the table) Tl;DR Excellent burger; confusingly great value.

It did not taste good at all and we had to send it back to the kitchen for replacements. We asked for the tomahawk steak to be cooked medium rare/medium, but when it came out, it was really hard to cut with the knife that they gave us. When we sliced open the steak, it was completely raw inside. We told the waitress that it was so raw that it was touch to choose and she said that "it's thick so it's impossible to cook through". I thought that was crazy to hear from a restaurant that has tomahawk steak on their menu. If you don't think it is possible to cook it well, then it should not be on the menu. We ended up taking it home and putting it in the air fryer, which made it taste so much better.

The menu was great and service was quick, then we ordered the burrata as an appetizer. Mentioned the nut allergy in our group and the server had said that they can't guarantee anything in the kitchen is safe to eat although some menu items didn't have nuts on them. The menu also says this, and maybe it's unfair to give this spot a four but in my experience restaurants shouldn't be mixing items in their dishes and there are pretty good safe serve/allergy friendly practices out there to follow and I've never had any issues. This is the first time I got a response at an American grill that they can't serve anything. Maybe it's just new to me and they're being extra cautious which is not wrong, and this place came highly recommended so I'm sure it's earned more stars, but would love to hear opinions on allergies and places that don't have "safe" serving spaces for nut allergies. Even the creamery had a nut free station
