Pulled pork and mac n cheese

Bill Pickles Tap Room in State College is a local favorite that keeps getting better--especially with their new BBQ menu. The smoked wings, pulled pork, and brisket sandwiches are full of flavor, and the house-made sauces like Carolina Gold are worth trying. It still has that laid-back college bar vibe with great drink specials, trivia nights, and the legendary country night on Tuesdays. The staff is friendly, and the food comes out hot and fresh. It's not the biggest spot, but it stays packed for a reason. Whether you're in for a night out, a casual meal, or just drinks with friends, Pickles delivers. The fried pickles hit every time, and their updated food game makes it more than just a bar. Solid choice if you're in State College and want a fun, tasty spot that doesn't miss.

Great place to have a cold bear. The smoked wings were delicious. The staff was super nice. Next time in town we will check out more items on the menu. Great location and a super sports bar to watch the games.

This place was super yummy! It was super spacious inside and cute. The nachos were the crown jewel of the meal and the pulled pork was super good too, the one in the sandwich was spicy and the 1/4 pound was pretty standard. The service was also pretty quick too

We sat outside at Bill Pickle's Tap Room, a beautiful day for a well made Smoked Old Fashioned. I can't wait to return for another!

If you looking for a great lunch place in State College you need to go here! When we fly in for a football game we always stop here for lunch! We try to sit outside when we can. They actually changed up the menu recently for the good! Starting out with drinks, they have ice cold beers as always, they added Margaritas! I'm a Margarita and tequila guy. They actually have very good no additive tequila, tequila Ocho! Always ask for No Additive Tequila! The menu changed to include BBQ, now living in the south I was skeptical. I ordered the Hangry Butcher.... WOW, glad I did, it was amazing! They must have a new chef!!! My Granddaughter got a PBJ and she crushed it! Great job Pickle's!

My side order of mac n cheese was pretty good. I was not that hungry, so I only ordered the mac n cheese. Troegs Perpetual IPA is damn good anytime you can get it. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. We hope to get back here and try the other food they have.

I think this used to be a Rite Aid when I was at Penn State lol. Anyway it's a cute little spot right near Hammond building. If it had been here in my student days I prob would have come a lot. We had no problem getting in and getting seats at the bar. I saw there was a $3 ice tea haha and I really wasn't wanting to drink cheap liquor - but my arm was twisted by the price - and by the awesome bartender wearing a Sixers jersey. Everyone was super friendly and the place was filled w adults (non students). overall it was a good spot and I will be back next time I'm in State College.

We like this place but unfortunately don't end up staying because it is consistently packed and we can't get a seat at the bar. There was a group doing a Christmas pub crawl so they were taking up a lot of the bar. We ended up at a table and had very good service. We ordered a glass of red and a lemondrop martini plus the kale salad special and a tuna salad BLT sandwich. We really enjoyed the sandwich because it was not made with a ton of mayo. We would definitely order that again. This is a fun place with music playing and we enjoyed ourselves.

Perfectly good spot near Penn State open on Sundays! A big plus! I feel like I was the odd person out with my order, and would go back again for something other than the salad. My mediterranean salad was good in fact! Lots of quinoa, fresh veggies and a good dressing. Only thing was the chicken wasn't seasoned well, but I did enjoy my salad after a weekend of toil on the body. The prices were fantastic and the wine they had was on a deal and quite good. I did get to try some of their other bar fare and they had great fry ups on the chicken tenders and french fries. Very good vibe here with lots of TVs to watch sports. Form time to time, I am in the area and would return!

Went to State College on a Sunday for a hockey game. We decided to try pickles out for some lunch. We sat at the bar. The bartender that waited on us was the sweetest kid. I started with a $15 espresso martini it was pretty darn delicious!! I do have to say this was my 1st ever warm espresso martini they are normally cold, but it did not disappoint!! Of course, my friend then got a complementary plate of some dill pickles, which we loved. For lunch, we got the smoked beef brisket melt for $15, which came with a bag of chips. My friends got a special of the Sunday fare menu, which we were told Sunday fare menu the items are most likely never come back. They both got the Chopped Italian salad for $13 and a starter of the fried pickles for $12 served with Jon Jon sauce, which I have no idea what it was, but it was amazing!!! We did also get a side of their homemade ranch. However, I did not care for it. I don't normally like heavy based dill ranch. The salads were a really good size, the atmosphere was awesome. They had a ton of all-day everyday drink specials. I got the pain killer, and it did not disappoint. If you're in the area, I highly recommend.

Military discount that is only for food according to the bartender we had

Chairs were comfortable nice padding. Our waitress was nice told us there was a wing special today 10 for $10. We got the wings with bbq sauce. They have other flavors too. They were very good but when came out were so hot I had to let them sit a bit to cool down to really enjoy. We also both got cheesesteaks. I got mine the chef Pat Way which was great. My son got the chicken ranch cheesesteak and he devoured it. They gave those fresh wipes since we had wings. The waitress checked in nicely to see for drink refills or anything needed. We had a great dinner after long day of driving. This would be a great place to watch games too they have lots of tvs.

The burger was that good. Because I want to end on a positive, let me start with negatives: the fries were okay. Normally these are a side dish not worth mentioning but this restaurant makes them a star with a fry menu. ( I humbling suggest they try frying in beef tallow to make it a whole other fry experience). The other critical comment is my French onion soup (on take out) was really cold and we weren't late nor (but for the fries) anything else cold. To give you reference, I microwaved for 1 minute and was still cold and did another 1:30. But it was delicious. Now, why 5 stars? The burgers. My son and I both got the Lancaster burger with horseradish mayo on the side and substituting wagyu. It was heaven. It was perfection. We still think and talk about that burger and any food that makes you miss is worth 5 stars!

I don't drink alcohol so I can't speak to their bar or other food. 5/5 Food: where to start with the burger- its thick patty has a great crisp outside and medium inside and is graced by nicely cooked bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and a proper amount of sauce. The fries are classic, semi mush-semi crisp fries with coarse grained salt. The meal with a delicious burger that outdoes any other I've had in state college, even those that cost close to $20. Walking out the door, the meal (fries, burger, drink) cost 8.05, and I was happy to leave a larger than 20% tip to make it $10 even. I challenge you to find a better burger in state college, regardless of price. The waitress was very nice, Tayler or Tyler I think, the atmosphere was a bit fancy for a brewery but fine. The problem we had was the food. My wife ordered fish and chips and I had the Ruban, mine was fine except it was like the vanilla of Ruban's. My wife, however, asked for tartar sauce and got cocktail sauce. The waitress had no idea what tartar sauce was, no problem, but we expected the cook staff would but nope, tartar sauce was up there with unoptainium, didn't exist. The other issues are small, the waitress was thrown off by the tartar sauce issue I think and we rarely saw her. She forgot my beer order twice, never tried to do anything to keep us there, upselling like more drinks or desert. Granted, she was very young so it's understandable. Lastly, the beer was fine but the options were kind of weak. I had a pilsner that was very average, it's not a complaint so much as I kind of expect more from an onsite brewery. It's all personal taste so I get it. We will probably try it again but it will be a little while.
