Prof. Protich is an exceptional classical piano teacher. She teaches not just from her knowledge of…read moremusic and theory, but more importantly from her actual experience of performing music as a concert pianist. She teaches with patience, kindness, and with infectious passion. My daughter has been a student for 4 years now and I have seen her gain in confidence, understanding and appreciation of the music, and ability to play more and more challenging music. She plays Bach, Beethoven, Czerny, and Prokofiev. Prof. Protich teaches, as I've observed in 3 stages. 1st stage would be to learn the text, reading the notes, learning the correct fingering. Next stage is mastery -- fixing the notes, timing, and correct fingering by sight and hand memory. Last stage is expression. Prof. Protich doesn't end at teaching the notes and speed. Her end goal is for the student to play beautiful music and play the classical piece with understanding of the composer's intent. At this stage, she teaches the student the correct phrasing, the various ways of touching the keys to produce the beautiful sound and the colorful expression. Prof. Protich will not only explain, but also patiently demonstrate the right technical and expressive way to play the music. Prior to teaching in the US, Prof. Protich has taught in Europe and Asia, conducting master classes in prestigious universities, and performing in various concert halls, including the Carnegie Concert Hall. We accept students of various age groups: younger children in the beginning of their musical journey, a bit older and more advanced students preparing for undergrad or grad school admissions, and accomplished young pianists who are seeking to improve their skills, and expand their repertoires. We also work with musicians playing other instruments (such as violinists, flutists, clarinetists, cellists, etc.) or with opera singers, performing various types of chamber music. We have an extensive library of piano and chamber music score, enabling us to provide all the necessary information and content to our students.

I still play. I still write songs. It all comes back to what I learned from Aaron…read more I bought a guitar on eBay and didn't know what to do with it, so I ended up randomly signing up for lessons with Aaron. I took guitar lessons with him in Ann Arbor Michigan from 2004 to 2008. It was great! He definitely let my interests drive the direction of the lessons. Rather than having a strict series of levels/lessons/books to work through, he saw what I was interested in and used his musical expertise to plan lessons around those interests. In addition to strumming my guitar that I love, I am so grateful for the theory/songwriting/singing knowledge I got out of working with Aaron. I've tried to take lessons from other people as I moved around the country, but no one offered the flexibility in terms of what to study that I got from Aaron. I really felt that he was interested in teaching me what I wanted to learn.

I studied with Aaron while he was in Ann Arbor, before he moved to Oregon. The thing that struck…read moreme most about him was his irrepressible enthusiasm for teaching. His love for sharing his knowledge and his music was obvious from the first minute I met him. He is a patient instructor and one of the most knowledgeable musicians I've met. His lessons were heavy on theory and on the science of sound and music - but only because I found it fascinating. With other students, particularly children, he took an age-appropriate approach that was intended to instill a love for the instrument without being overly "school-ish" or boring. Ann Arbor's loss is Portland's gain.
