Alex (the owner) and his movers are the most professional, courteous, thoughtful, efficient, not overly-priced piano moving company that I have ever dealt with (by far!) and if you use anyone else you are doing yourself and your piano a disservice. Think that the job is an impossible task like I did? Pianoland's movers will blow you away and make it look like a walk in the park. The key here is that from my understanding, Pianoland's movers have on average 20+ years of experience doing what? That's right, moving Pianos. Think about it: if you were in need of life-saving surgery and you had the option of an intern or a top-notch 20+ years experience surgeon doing the task, which would you choose? I thought I may have had to leave my beloved 100+ year old Steinway behind in my old Brooklyn apartment because the moving job seemed next to impossible. In fact, it was part of the reason that I kept the apartment for so long. The moving company that originally moved it in had to have 6 guys come and it took them close to 4 hours just to get it up one flight of stairs, the whole time cursing the piano, saying the job was impossible, etc. Pianoland's thoughtful movers were able to get it out in just 35 minutes. To say that I was awestruck would be an understatement. These guys are basically Supermen without capes, I'm not kidding. They have an honest talent/skill with moving pianos and are proud of it (as they should be). Alex, the owner, is super professional and even called after to ensure that everything went the right way. I have no doubt that Alex does a great job moving pianos, but do not hire him to assess or tune an old piano. I tried to hire him to move a 1937 Krakauer baby grand from a woman who was clearing out her parents' apartment. It was beyond out of tune and not playable, but the action on all they keys was great and the harp iron, i believed it deserved a chance. The building had unreasonable insurance requirements so it didn't end up working out, but he was so responsive over email, i figured i would have him tune the piano after i moved it. He showed up and within 2 minutes said the piano could not be tuned and was beyond repair. He essentially mansplained me and seemed very condescending that i didn't have the piano assessed before moving. Thankfully he waived the "assessment fee" because he was late. And thankfully the universe prevented him from moving the piano, because he would have told me the piano was trash. How does he know i didn't have the money to repair or refurbish it for personal reasons? The next day, i had a tuner come who recommended tuning it to baroque pitch (415) to avoid breaking the strings. I'm an opera singer who specializes in baroque music so that was fine by me! I have to rehearse my music at 415 anyhow! 2 hours later the piano sounded beautiful and I was happily playing on it. I'm so glad i found someone open minded who realized i didn't need it perfect, just playable for my purposes. This instrument did not deserve to be in a dump. If he tells you otherwise, get a second opinion. read more

On time and completely professional. I have a tricky, narrow set of stairs (doesn't everyone in NYC?), and though the three movers felt like there was a 50% of getting the piano up them, they managed to successfully move my 42" upright with little drama. I called Pianoland to ask about having my piano moved and inquired about how they move the piano (do they wrap it, use blankets, etc.). As most piano owners know, you want your instrument to be safe and protected when you move. The man who answered the phone was incredibly rude and told me "I don't have time to explain this to you." Additionally, when I asked if he could look to see if I used his business before, the previous time I moved, he told me no. Flat out "no." Poor customer service and rude client relations. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!!! moved an upright 1985 Kimball piano, not only did they show up sooner than expected, they wrapped up the piano so well I couldn't believe it. Once they took it away all my anxiety of transportation disappeared. I had the most wonderful experience with Pianoland. I communicated directly with Alex, the owner, regarding the logistics of the move of my baby grand Essex piano from my home to an apartment on the second floor with a very narrow landing. After exchanging multiple pictures and measurements, Alex determined that the piano would not fit through the opening. I asked Alex to come and inspect the site and give me recommendations on other options. He came to the apartment and determined that if we widened the doorway opening they could do the move. We made the modification and Alexsi and his crew made the move smoothly. Every aspect of working with the company went smoothly. They arrived on time, and were efficient in moving the piano out, after very careful wrapping and protecting. The move up the stairs was challenging, but accomplished quickly because of their expertise. This team really knows their business. The whole process took about and hour and a half.
