The only thing is... the picture was from 1938 and was of the Hatfield Family from the Hatfield and McCoy family feud. It's also the original picture and last photo of the Hatfield family during the last family reunion. my grandfather was 6yrs old in this photo. I just had to get a copy of our huge family from this major point in our American History. S&S photography went above and beyond!! not only did they do this project for me last minute- the day before I was leaving to head back home- but they made me TWO copies and they did it in less than 6hrs PLUS framed them for me in way that it looks just like the original picture frame. the copies that were made were even brightened to be able to see the details in the photo better. on top of that, they also copied my great-grandmothers handwriting onto the back of both copies. SO MUCH THOUGHT AND LOVE WAS PUT INTO THIS! They are just absolutely amazing. I will be back in town to continue going through family keepsakes and this will be where I go EVERY TIME! Conveniently located off Slaughter Road in the Heritage Plaza near the 72/University Blvd, I quickly headed over before their 5:30pm closing. I needed monogramming services to be done on a few pieces in time for an out of state bridal shower. [Son is getting married!!! :) ] Had less than 5 days before my flight, and Carl & Debbie were able to help me with my rush order at a very reasonable price. Even with a small order like mine, they were able to squeeze me in between the huge ones already in progress. I also must add that Debbie was very patient with me (bless her heart!) as it took me almost an hour to decide on a specific design last week when I first placed my order. With numerous catalogs to thumb thru and designs to choose from, I was undecided but finally locked down on one after changing my mind a couple of times. :) Now with the items in hand on the afternoon promised, I am quite pleased with their work & word! The monogramming and design work looks awesome and is perfect for my son and soon to be daughter in law. I will post pictures of the finished products soon. It's not often I need personalized work to be done on apparel or gifts, but when I do they've gotta be reliable, experienced, and reasonably priced.,,, that is what I found with Alabama Stitchin' Post. I haven't been in this store in years. There were at least a dozen shoppers. I noticed fall stuff and some Christmas stuff. We looked at cork first and then wood. The store has limited cork inventory, as well as, limited wood pieces. I picked up 4 small cylindrical wood posts and headed to the checkout. These pieces weren't exactly what I needed but they were better than nothing. Checkout was very slow. I couldn't find a person to checkout with so I went to self checkout. After struggling for at least 5 minutes, a store employee came over to help. She struggled with the self checkout. Between the two of us we had to start and stop to start over 4 times before the self checkout register would work properly. I was about to leave everything due to frustration. The store employee was pleasant and cheerful thru the ordeal. She wished me a better day and I told her the same. The person in charge of programming the self checkout registers needs to revisit the code written and make changes so that it doesn't take 2 people 4 attempts to purchase from Michael's.

And the young man helping my sister and me could not have been nicer or more knowledgeable! He evaluated my broken lens within seconds, saying "it's stuck on the longest length and can't autofocus anymore, and we cannot fix it." Then, he offered me a refurbished, similar lens at a very reasonable price, ~ $175.00 and confirmed the warranty with the owner. He let me shoot photos with each lens and gave me an additional option of upgrading to a newer Nikon camera body + lens which was another affordable option. There was no pressure to purchase immediately, and he understood I was checking on a. lens repair options and b. possible Christmas gifts for the hubs to get me. While we were there, we learned they do VHS to DVD transfers, and he walked us through their very reasonable prices for the service. He added that they've farmed this service out to a Cincinnati company for ~ 30 years with zero problems. This was another pleasant, fun exerience at Southerland's and I look forward to returning to get some family VHS tapes transferred. I enjoyed their extensive antique camera collection that is lined around the store on the top shelf! Huntsville is fortunate to have a locally owned knowledgeable camera store staffed with kind, engaging staff!

The owners and staff are very friendly, helpful, and PATIENT. I don't know jack about cameras and they explained EVERYTHING to me about two cameras I bought on a whim at an estate sale. They cleaned them and made sure they worked. They loaded film. They showed me the settings for the apertures, shutter, and all those other things I don't have a clue about (I told them to just set it on "easy settings" and they did, lol). They wrote instructions down. They told me their value. They warned me what not to do. I told them I'd be back probably with more questions and they said "that's absolutely no problem." When I asked if they could repair them if I messed them up they said they could not, BUT could tell me a shop that could. These are kind, good folks. We need more shops like this open with such knowledgeable people. They sell cameras, lenses, film, develop film, and do photo restoration. Prices seemed more than reasonable. Advice and small talk are free.
