    Site 44 is the best!

Amazing! Quiet, comfortable, friendly, easy in and out with a big rig, clean, and plenty of amenities. Just an fyi- you can hear the traffic from the highway and there are trains nearby but I wouldn't say that is a deal breaker at all.

Shakedown cruise for our recently acquired used RV. An overnight to campground not to far out of town. Nicely laid out and well maintained campground right off the I-10. Family run business. Staff very accommodating and friendly. We got a 30Amp full hookup site. All equipment at the site in good shape. The common areas were closed due to Covid, and the layout made social distancing easy. A good bit of road noise from the I-10 and the railroad; but hey it's a campground close to the interstate, not a wilderness experience. A Good Sam affiliated campground. You won't go wrong staying here.

My significant other and I pulled up to the Picacho/Tucson NW KOA about 3 weeks ago. We had JUST purchased our new travel trailer and were very excited about TRAVELING in it. However, we have not been able to leave this campground. We are KOA members, and are used to staying in the cabins, or camping; and we have had experienced wonderful KOA locations all around the country. Obviously, some better then others. But, Picacho is truly one of the best finds in the KOA world! The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, there are lots of fun activities for all ages, they even throw a weekly Bingo game for the residents, there's a restaurant on site, the bathrooms are very clean and it's comfortable to take a shower in there no matter when ( there's always hot water), the laundry facilities are open until nine p.m., the pool is very warm and nice to sit down by, there are humming bird feeders that hang around the property and you can find the birds flitting around all day! The BEST THING ABOUT PICACHO is the people who you're going to meet here! They are great! The owners and staff are AWESOME!!!! So are the residents. They are super friendly and helpful! Maybe you will get stuck here, too!

So we knew that the location is by the freeway but we didn't know a train is going by also, every hour and the smell of horse manure from next door property . There's old cars and rv's abandoned in the back of the property and gives you a feel of a junkyard with all the dust included ( a little gravel here n there- but not enough to make a difference) I would not recommend this property, we expect the standard to be higher for koa but we're disappointed

This is our first time here at this little gem! New owners but don't let that scare you! They are doing an amazing job fixing this beautiful place up! Great RV sites as well as tents. Kid playground with heated pool. The staff and owners are super sweet and very helpful. Can't wait until next time!

Don't fret about the highway noise! This location is SO Friendly. We had all questions answered over the phone and warmly welcomed on arrival. The owner advised us about spotty WiFi. Not a problem for us Becca use we had realistic expectations. They have small but beautifully maintained store and facilities. I always look for a little ice cream freezer- bingo! There is more space between sites than many KOA's we've stayed in. We wanted this location because we were passing through. It did not disappoint- we saw happy children riding bikes, folks our dog walking and generally being friendly. There are some negative reviews citing freeway noise. Personally I think it's fine- and if you can't tolerate it, well, ya should have looked at a map instead of complaining! Verizon service was great. We wanted to add a night because we felt safe and relaxed. At the time of this writing wood fired are allowed. Nice picnic tables, play area and a really great dog exercise area.

This is our second time staying here and we love it. Super clean and well maintained. The owners are very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back here.

    Great park.

Friendly & easy checkin. Clean, off of I 10 just far enough so very little to no road noise. Cute little gem!

Super clean bathrooms, lovely pool and there is always someone trimming, raking or otherwise sprucing up the place.

An amazing hike! Start early, bring gloves, lunch/snacks, and water!…read more My friends and I hiked to the peak via the Sunset trail, taking the loop back down the Hunter trail (7.1 mi). The first part of the hike is very easy, just out in the open. Though, once you start climbing you are climbing! The gardening gloves we brought helped us feel more secure, so that we didn't lose our grip. Honestly, the pictures made it look more scary than doing it, but if you are afraid of heights do take caution. The cables felt very secure and I felt safe the whole time. The top is very rewarding! There are a lot of bees though, so I wouldn't recommend hanging out there too long. We ended up having our lunch at on of the campsite benches in the shade at the end of the Hunter trail, which was very nice. The last part of the hike is walking on the road, but we didn't mind it after the steep and rocky decline. The bathrooms in the park are incredibly nice for a state park and there were also water bottle fillers. This was a great hike and the Park is also very well-maintained!

I checked out Picacho Peak State Park, not to be confused with Pikachu, on a Saturday afternoon…read more Located between Phoenix and Tuscon, Picacho was a hike unlike any I've done before. After arriving, you have to pay a $10 entrance fee per person to hike (a bit annoying for a state park but o well). You're given a pamphlet about the park and then it's time for what you came for. We did Hunter's Trail and there was a good amount of parking close to the start of the trail. It's a difficult trail on Alltrails and for good reason. There are parts of the hike where it's so narrow that only one person can go through at the time. There are other parts of the hike where there are steep inclines. And not only that. You'll have to climb using the cables that have been attached to the rock formations. Pro tip: bring gloves. That also means you have to be careful on the way down as you're going down on a decline. Which will be hard on your knees. It's all worth it though, because once you climb the mountain, you'll have breathtaking views of the park. And you'll be so high up that you can see both Tucson and Phoenix in the distance. All in all, if you go at a decent pace, the hike will take you 3-4 hours. There's at least one other trail. And you can also camp in the state park. Last but not least, there's a little museum in the visitor's center. And plenty of facilities. You'll get quite the workout!

This trail will take you up to the Picacho Peak, which is pretty cool! There hasn't been a peak that I've hiked to in my life that wasn't awesome! Do know that this hike is not recommended for beginners. $10 fee for day use and the visitor center out front has lots of items for purchase like books, T shirts, postcards, etc. Bathrooms also available. Sunset trailhead is the last stop on the map the ranger gives you. Ample parking and bathrooms available. We met our hike leader Charles at 10am and started on this hike. And while this hike isnt that long, about 3 miles one way, do know that the last mile of the hike is a lot of climbing up with many railings to help you up. If you're afraid of heights or not comfortable with climbing, I don't recommend this hike. Bring gloves, super helpful! Also, once you get to the top, it is more windy and cold (bring a jacket)! We took a lot longer hiking as a group vs me doing this solo but that was ok. I learned a lot about the history of this park and that there was a Civil War battle out here and all the different kinds of plants out here. Overall, a lovely day to be outdoors and I really enjoyed this hike, it was like a mini baby Angel's Landing in Zion! Definitely come and hike a few of their trails, its so pretty with all the saguaros and chollas! I loved it!
