FInding a family doctor is hard, so when I moved downtown 10 years ago, I discovered that I couldn't find a family doctor, but I could be assigned to a Nurse Practitioner at WCH Family Practice. For those reluctant to opt for a Nurse Practitioner, I can tell you from my experience, it is better than a family doctor. Anything they can handle on their own is done quickly because you can see them sooner than the overbooked doctors, and when there is something they can't handle, it is referred to a doctor in the clinic or a specialist, so it is the best of both worlds. My Nurse practitioner retired last year and I ended up becoming a patient of one of the doctors in the clinic, and while she is a great doctor, WCH is a teaching hospital, so she is only in the clinic twice a week, so appointments are hard to get. However, WCH family practice offers urgent care appointments in the evenings, so if a doctor can't see you that day, you can see one in the evening, instead of going to a walk in clinic or emergency. The clinic is very accessible, something I appreciated after my knee surgery.

I'm not sure what to feel about her asking "Why would you?" several times to my conditions, to my past experience, even to just a piece of information about women's health practice that's not done in this clinic but commonly done elsewhere. Because I didn't feel much listened or attended to, I'm not sure whether I would feel safe to come back again if I have other women's health or sexual health related issues. There is a last-year chiropractor resident supervised by a supervising chiropractor. Supervision includes verbal review and video cameras in the treatment rooms. The charge is $100 for the initial assessment. A formal treatment plan is created. All treatments after that are free. You must be referred by a family doctor within the St. Michael's Hospital network.

I don't understand why people complain about the front desk staff not being friendly chatty etc... they are no there to be your BFFs, they are there to do their jobs... Remember that along with checking you in, they are also answering the phone and email and a bunch of other things, so have some patience. For a downtown walk -in, the wait time to see a doctor is very fast. Doctors are great and will take time to listen to your issues. Now with COVID, you have the opportunity to send an email to have a doctor call you back and a doctor calls back within one hour! They can diagnose over the phone and even send emailed prescriptions to your local pharmacy. Before anything, let me be fully clear, Doctors/ Physicians in the clinic are amazing, I am with my family doctor from a long time, however the admin team has been a nightmare. I underwent surgery in March 2026, which lead me to be bed ridden for recovery till May 2026. I lost my job, my OSAP went into overpayment, I am under extreme financial hardship and I was attacked racially on the streets of Toronto. I was recovering, hence could not make it to the appointments, when asked about it, I was told about "policies" and "fees" I must pay before I see my doctor. I gently asked to waive it OR allow me to delay the payment till I am capable of giving it / do it in instalments. It was relayed to my doctor as I am asking to waive fees and I was informed it cannot be done. The email had issues lines up, I was looking to get my doc to fill in some forms, insurance/ hardship related, I was told how much that would "COST". I had to leave it on the side. I received an email saying I am no more on ROSTER because I missed appointments! I was genuinely taken aback. My psychiatrist had stopped the practice, so my files was being transferred to family doctor. Admin team at UHN did it, honestly, multiple times. It never reached my doctor. During my current hard time, facing depression, anxiety, adhd and an attack because I am a different race, with no money, poor credit fighting to get a job, I started overcoming my issues. I asked again for an appointment, because UHN confirmed that I was still with this clinic, they replied with "policy rules", "admin fees"! I have an entire email chain! The admin from UHN helped me with getting the records, and I PERSONALLY SENT THEM! My doctor understandably could not read everything because there were more than 200 visits to be read! So from whatever time I was a patient of this clinic, UHN did send the records, and they NEVER reached my doctor, until I had to find a way to provide it to them! Finally after asking for an appointment I finally got one last week, I finally saw my doctor and we had a plan, from the conversation I noticed he was relayed with selective information, and when he said he supports the admin team, I reassured him I understand policies and why you are supporting them, however, my MAIN CONCERNS have not reached you! Me and my doctor had a plan, I requested for one of my forms to be signed on Friday, according to clinic "policy" I was late with the email so they were going to answer me next business day. Monday has passed by, Tuesday is almost coming to an end, and I am ghosted yet again! She has never brushed anything off as all in my head or "just nothing" and I have faith that she never will. She even calls me herself with abnormal results. Really. She's super. But that's not the best thing about Spadina Health Centre. Along with the great location (Bloor and Spadina!) and the friendly, competent reception staff, it is incredibly easy to book appointments (they can always fit me in within a day or two for urgent stuff and within a couple of weeks for yearly physicals) and I have never, ever waited more than five minutes to be seen at the clinic. Seriously. I'll say it again. I have never waited more than five minutes to be seen for my appointments at this clinic. If the horror stories my clients tell me are any indication, this is almost unheard of in Toronto. Sadly for all of you, I don't think that any of the docs at this clinic are accepting patients right now, so it's sort of unfair to even mention how fantastic they are.
