They sell decent little sandwiches ready to eat on the spot for less than 3 euros! Sodas are just 1.5 euros as opposed to the much more rapey prices around town of 3-5 euros for a 16 oz bottle. Plus the macarons are less than 1 euro a piece here, which is about the cheapest I saw them anywhere around town. Most people I ran into could not speak much English but still were able to help me out with pantomiming and a few chosen words. lol But they were always nice and figured out a way to communicate an answer to me. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. The worst part was the bread in the soup. It tasted stale which ruin the flavor of the soup. I had to finish without the bread. Escargot - Another disappointment. What made escargots special was the garlic butter and herb. Here, there were the herbs, no garlic, and French is famous with their butter but I taste oil but not buttery. Other places I actually get excited dipping the bread into the garlic butter but not here. Pan seared Foie gras - The quality of Foie Gras was definitely there. It's not as well seared as I hope but they managed to cook it through without overcooking it. The size of Foie Gras is kind of scary, it's like a small piece of rib eye steak. The pumpkin soup lacked flavour. The chicken was very overcooked to the point of being largely inedible. Thankfully the sauce helped to make it a bit more palatable. The ladyfingers in the tiramisu were drenched in coffee, imparting a wetness and heaviness to the dessert that is normally supposed to be creamy and light. The staff serving dinner seemed put out with requests for butter or wine glasses. Breakfasts were better. They were served buffet style. There was an assortment of cheeses, deli meats, sausage, and bacon. There were also waffles, croissants, and a good selection of breads and spreads to choose from. The scrambled eggs tasted like they came out of a carton and were very runny. Fruit (orange & grapefruit segments) seemed to be hidden behind the maître d. They have 2 coffee machines, located on opposite sides of the dining area, where you can obtain espresso, cafe au lait, hot chocolate, and hot water. They have a nice selection of Kusmi teas. We went up and down the escalator scouting things out, but almost every spot with seating was overrun on a Saturday afternoon. We ended up at an okay pan-Asian spot called Rice Street between lunch and dinner service, getting boba and sheltering from the chaos. I went two days in a row on my more recent trip to Paris, first for a Glace BACHIR pop-up, and then to get an easy on-the-go lunch before getting sucked into the broader maw of the main Galeries Lafayette. It was crowded both days, the ground floor crawling with people. Both the ice cream and my sandwich, from Chez Meunier, were delicious. I haven't quite figured out Galeries Lafayette Gourmet, but it's a worthwhile destination if you want to run around trying pastries and chocolates and other French delectables. To be honest, I didn't expect such a high price tag and I was on a budget so I ordered soup and a salad. My friend ordered an entree and that was all. But we were served like royalty, like Ms. and Ms. Gotrocks with no attitude or shade thrown. We just oohed and ahhed our way through our mini dinner. The bread service was outstanding and the butter was so divine I could have eaten it for dessert. It truely was an open air market and had SO MANY stands!! Each one was so unique and selling a variety of food from cheese, flowers, fresh pasta, seafood, tons of fruits, and etc. We came super early because we had a lot of stuff to do that day, but there was still a lot of stands already open at 730-8am. However it was relatively empty so I'm not sure if it gets crowded later. We took about 30 minutes to stroll through the market but I could have spent more time oogling at all the yummy deliciacies. We picked up some breakfast foods here but I forget what stand. We got some pate from one stand, some delicious, super soft bread from another, some really juicy pear and peaches, and had a mini breakfast picnic. Everything was very reasonably priced and the food was super yummy. We also went to Rue Cler later but I didn't like it as much since it didn't really have an open market feel (maybe I went to the wrong place?) It was much more pricey there as well and I didn't see many options. Another plus is that this is near the tour eiffel park, so we walked over (about 10 min walk) to enjoy our breakfast! :)

NOTE: i did an informal study/poll of this market one wednesday and discovered that only 5 of the 106 vendors that day were the producers or even remotely 'local'. generally, don't be fooled by parisian market places into thinking you're buying from farmers; mostly you're not (marche BIO des batignolles being a big exception here). mostly it's just more fun to have a face to face interaction with a person you're buying your food from, even if they're not the farmer. anyway, i did find some of the BEST HONEY SOAP ever here and that was indeed local & straight from the soap makers. also, markets are always good places to find delicious street food.
