    Duck
    Gregg Y.

Comptoir de la Gastronomie is indulgence distilled into three dishes: roasted bone marrow with sea salt, pan-seared duck foie gras, and roasted duck breast. Each plate is unapologetically rich, decadent, and executed with the kind of confidence that leaves you speechless. Bone marrow and pan-seared foie gras is something that can't really be described. It has to be experienced. The duck breast was cooked perfectly and paired perfectly with the potatoes. A true embodiment of dining hedonism and an experience that reminds you why Paris still owns the word gastronomy.

Wonderful place to try different types of foie gras. We got the big piece of foie gras escalope dish, and the foie gras slices dish. The escalope were juice, fatty, and melt-in-your-mouth, just as expected. Decadent! The slices were buttery, and very fatty. Just like butter. None of the foie gras had liver taste. Too clean of a taste for me, but still good. We also got the duck breast, which was not that tender. It was okay. Overall, great dinner!

Saw this place had a lot of reviews so I was excited to check this place out. When my fiancee and I got here, it was bustling but we were able to get a table within a 30 minutes wait. I truly wanted to love the duck here since a lot of people raved about it but it was dry and felt as if I was eating jerky rather than a duck confit. The potatoes that paired with the duck were delicious but some pieces were a bit too mushy for my liking. A bit inconsistent with texture. The only thing I thoroughly enjoyed was the foie gras ravioli. The ravioli was decadent and the truffle sauce was earthy and just pure bliss. If you are going to get anything here, I would highly recommend the Foie Gras ravioli.

Food was awesome and not expensive, service is good, I love their duck liver , it's on my most go list!

An absolute favorite restaurant in Paris. Onion soup is a must. Lovely wine selection. Alix went above and beyond taking care of us every visit. Hours need to be updated to reflect that the restaurant is closed Sunday AND Monday. We wanted to do our last dinner here on Monday and were highly disappointed when we arrived.

I had high hopes for this restaurant, and they were met. Had this place bookmarked for a while before actually making the reservations. I was a little nervous because coming from halfway across the world, fitting it into our full itinerary knowing how busy we were going to be, and the cancellation policy were all factors I had to figure out. As we all know, going on a trip doesn't always follow through with plans and things change rather spontaneously. Luckily, we were able to come and meet my reservation with no issues. We opted to sit outside because it seemed like a busy area and I was ready to people watch. We had barely sat outside all week and this was the last day of our trip. While there were nearby construction which added loud background noise to the meal, it didn't impact the experience much (thankfully). We ordered: - duck confit leg - duck foie gras ravioli with truffle sauce - shellfish rigatoni - pan seared duck foie gras with ginger bread and mix salad Where to begin? The duck leg was juicy and so easy to cut up and share. This foie gras was not something I've had before, the perfect amount of fatty and the taste was unique. Basically melted in my mouth. Highly recommend! I wasn't really feeling seafood too much this trip although my family loves it. This seafood rigatoni made me want more. The restaurant was packed inside and out. It's not that big and you can see why reservations fill up so quickly. Everyone admiring, taking pictures of their meals, and savoring every bite.

We had a couple of options for lunch, but decided to come here to enjoy some more French cuisine. After we were done with the Louvre, we made our way over here. It was about a 15 min walk and we were able to visit a couple spots on the itinerary along the way. What caught my eye was the duck foie gras ravioli and I was dead set on ordering that. We also got a dish of escargot because you just have to get that when in France. The last dish that we shared was the gourmande salad, which comes with a variety of duck meat (duck foie gras, smoked duck breast, gizzards, duck leg). The duck foie gras ravioli was so good and full of truffle flavor, I would definitely make sure to order this dish here! I enjoyed the escargot as well, it had an additional pesto flavor to it. It was also nice to try all the different duck meats alongside some greens. Overall, they're a great restaurant with some quality dishes, definitely make sure to dine here and enjoy some classic French cuisine.

One of the best restaurants we've dined at while visiting Paris. Our first time eating here was over a year ago. We loved it so much that we made a point to come back on our next trip to Paris. Everything we have tried here is delicious and executed with care. Our favorites are the escargot and the truffle foie gras ravioli. The service is always exceptional and friendly. The restaurant is very small and quaint so I highly recommend making a reservation as tables fill up quickly. Definitely give this place a try!

The hype is real. We tried to come here a few years ago, but got derailed by a train strike. We tried to get a reservation here this year, but we looked to late and Le Comptoir was already booked out. We happened to pass by here during lunch and lucked out that they had their last table available. Thank. goodness. The food and the service here are unparalleled. We started off with the escargot which was super good. We sopped up all the sauce with the bread. Speaking of which, the bread service was probably the best I had on the trip outside of Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. If you're not in the mood for duck, this is not the place for you. But if you are looking to eat a duck dish in Paris, make this place it. I had the roasted duck breast and my wife had the confit duck leg. The roasted duck breast here was probably the best duck I've ever had. The cook on the duck was absolutely perfect and the balsamic sauce was just such a perfect compliment. Paris gets a bad rap for having bad service, but I found I had great service all over Paris. Even having across the board great service in Paris, Le Comptoir still stood out as being one of my best service experiences. If you're thinking about coming to Paris, making your reservation here should be one of the first items on you To Do list.

I put my trust in the servers and ordered the escargot, onion soup and famous foie gras dumplings. So good!!!

I had this meal 3 days ago and I'm still thinking about it. It's a must try if you enjoy eating duck. We can on a Thursday evening around 6pm with no reservations but the staff said we can be seated as long as we finish by 7:30. We said no problem! We ordered the: - Escargot: it was a fun experience taking it out of the shell. The green garlic sauce was so good that we used the leftover to dip our bread in - French onion soup: not as much broth and the cheese melt didn't pair as well but it wasn't bad, probably an acquired taste. I'll skip on this next time - Duck foie gras ravioli with truffle sauce: SO SO GOOD. This is a must order. - Duck breast with balsamic sauce: very nicely seared. Best version of duck breast that I ever had so far. They also sell their cheeses in front and they can vacuum seal it for 1 euro. Do yourself a favor and add this to your Paris itinerary.

I love a restaurant or bar with a great vibe. I was on my way to a different restaurant, actually, when I walked by Le Comptoir de la Gastonomie and sensed it had a great vibe. There was a crowd of people outside waiting for tables - what appeared to be a variety of people on dates, visiting, etc. I looked at the menu and got one delicious smell of foie gras and knew I had to stay. This place was buzzing on a Saturday night. The waiters and host were in a constant dance on the dining room floor, back and forth to the kitchen, and then out the door to the sidewalk tables. It was really fun to watch! I was dining alone so I did not have to wait long for a seat to open up at the bar. After chatting with a few people about what they had ordered, I settled on the french onion soup, foie gras appetizer, and escargot. What a rich meal! I wish I had a friend or someone with me, because everything on the menu smelled and looked so good and the food was so rich and decadent. The escargot were served sizzling hot in a luxurious buttery sauce. The foie gras just melts in your mouth. So, so good. I ended the meal with the french onion soup and could not eat all of it, sadly, due to being so full. The two hours that I spent at Le Comptoir de la Gastronomie are everything I've dreamed of France. A late dinner on a bustling Saturday night, surrounded by friendly people laughing, talking. I chatted it up with strangers at the bar and the server at the bar was so nice, too. For those few hours, it didn't feel like I was in a restaurant full of strangers an ocean away from home. It felt like I was surrounded by people all having a wonderful time together. Needless to say, I can't wait for my next visit to this lovely restaurant and gourmet shop. The vibes are immaculate.

Le Comptoir de la Gastronamie is French and literally translates to the counter where the art and knowledge of preparing and eating good food. This gourmet shop and restaurant is located on Rue Montemarte in the Halles district of Paris and has been here since 1894. Known for typical french foods: Foie Gras, caviar escargot, onion gratin soup, cheese and wine offered and priced reasonably $$. I'm not a hugh fan of Magret aka Duck, but all the tourists from Asia all order it. I've visited this casual shop/diner/restaurant for the last 3 decades and still enjoy the foods but have realized my palate has elevated exponentially, as well as my expectations of service...the food and service was great just NOT exceptional. I must agree with the Michelin star reviewers and say this restaurant is not on the same league as other award recipients; due primarily to inconsistent service or lack of. Although my dining experiences had been pleasant, I've witnessed bad attitude, poor service towards other diners, a major faux pas! It's possible that more than one restaurant critic dining solo had poor service and hence the deduction in Michelin stars. Evidently, this restaurant is not a fan of solo diners and that's unfortunate, most times I am a solo diner like many and we can eat and drink and spend Beaucoup bucks $$$$ I prefer dining outdoors, and thank goodness because space inside the restaurant was tight and the last few times I was there, it was crowded with tourists from Asia, and was not sure which country but I didn't want to over hear them loudly talking, the waiters and locals were annoyed because I overheard them commenting and not too kindly. However, the owners cannot be annoyed by the Asian tourists as the restaurant consisted of 95% of the diners all ordering magret=duck!! On to the food: if you appreciate and have a palate for all the french classics, by all means order them all on your first days while in Paris as reintroduction to french foods 101. No artful food plate presentation here, just good basic french classics which would be considered gourmet caliber by some... Because some states in the US like California bans the production and sale Foie Gras, I cannot eat it as often. For those who don't know, Foie Gras is a delicacy made from the 'LIVER' of a duck or goose. Strangely, I don't eat any other liver of any sorts, but have acquired a palate for this and appreciate this delicacy when available. The Foie Gras is a must because it's the house specialty, as a main dish or addition to an entree...it pairs well with a ribeye steak! And ask the waiter for the perfect wine pairing, your palate senses will be enlightened at Le Comptoir de la Gastronomie. Recommend

On the other hand, it made me realize that my mother was a terrible cook. Bistro des Augustins is a small, cozy venue offering both indoor seating and terrace seating near Pont Neuf. It serves a small number of curated dishes, including a wonderfully traditional Bistro Gratin in a homey ceramic dish served piping hot with a brown crispy cheesy top, herbs, spices and chicken. You can also get it with salmon. My brothers and I only saw my mother use our gas range to light her cigarettes, sanitize needles to remove our splinters, and make s'mores during the summer months when she couldn't muster the energy to take us 'outside camping.' I mean, all she had to do was borrow a cookbook, which I'm sure were readily available from maybe a neighbor or in any local bookstore or the public library. How hard is that? I was the only kid who brought a can of tuna and his own monogrammed can opener to school every day. Every day. And mom convinced me that the tuna holster she got me for my birthday was cool and hip. I was a naive mercury-filled fool, although I did become a very fast runner in junior high school because of the tuna holster. The interior décor of Bistro des Augustins is informal and vintage bistro style - wooden tables, traditional chalkboard menus, and soft lighting - creating a relaxed and comfy ambiance. My eyes have been opened to what's possible. Thank you Bistro des Augustins for expanding my culinary horizons. Five stars.
