There's something about a conveyor belt that just makes dining so much more fun. I saw this place on social media so I was thrilled when we stopped in as there were two seats calling our name. There's no shortage of cheese options and they give you a menu to help explain what is on each plate (this is based on a number system). They also have a menu you can order from so I had to choose a grilled cheese because if you're ever going to have a great grilled cheese it'll be from a cheese spot. You're charged based on plate color and could easily get ahead of yourself. There was just two of us so it was easy to share, but there is a booth for groups of 4, only downside to this is people on the outside couldn't grab from the conveyor belt and that's half the fun. Located inside 7 dials market which is also just really cool. Try making a reservation because the bar gets busy. We did walk up but it was like early lunch late breakfast time. You pay by the plate color for what's on the rotating bar and then they do offer some sandwiches too that come from the menu. We left with full tummies and happy hearts! Oh my goodness. Cheese really does bring happiness! I stumbled upon this place a couple months before my trip. A lot of reviews encouraged reservations, so I did just that! I reserved a spot at the conveyer belt for 430pm. I arrived a little early, but they sat me. They had a spot with a reserved sign waiting. When I sat down the server explained to me how everything worked. You take whatever cheese you want off the conveyer belt and each color plate has a different price point. There is a cheese menu and each cheese has a corresponding number. The numbers are with the cheese on the plate. There's also unlimited crackers and "off belt" items. Most cheese also had a pairing; fudge, tomatoes, jelly/jam etc. There were also cured meats and pickles available on the belt that was up for grabs. The cheeses I had were #5- La Latteria Mozzarella paired with roasted cherry tomatoes #6- Cenarth Brie paired with tomato and chili jam #7- Cornish Gouda paired with fudge #18- Durrus paired with bacon jam #19- Lucky Marcel paired with Apricot jam #23- Truffled Baron Bigod. No pairing with this one. Each cheese was so delicious. The pairings were also perfect. It's hard for me to pick a favorite. The staff gets new cheese out very quick! Super fun! Sushi boat but make it charcuterie! Little plates on a counter top conveyor belt (just like sushi boat). They give you a menu (much like a key with prices and details, the cheese, meats, etc. will have a number and different colored plates, which corresponds to the menu that tells you what type of cheese, etc., and the color of the plate determines how much it costs). You may grab a plate coming by that you'd like, or order directly with the friendly staff. Of course, wine is also on the menu. This food vendor is located inside the Seven Dials Market, it's like an indoor food court (the market itself does have indoor and outdoor seating as well). Definitely worth a visit. read more

While in London and exploring Covent Gardens and Seven Dial's Market, we stumbled upon Pick a Cheese. Although we didn't have a reservation we were seated right away. The staff was friendly and helpful in explaining how it worked. For those of you who love the Sushi restaurants that offer items on a conveyer belt, this is exactly what this is like but for cheese lovers. We watched the covered items travel down the conveyer belt, and matched the numbers on the menu with the numbers on the items. First up was Cenarth Brie. A Welsh cheese that was velvety with a mushroom flavor. Next up was the Spenwood, a nutty firm cheese like Pecorino from Berkshire and it was paired with Romesco sauce, truly a gift for the palate. Our third choice was the Truffled Baron Bigod, a cheese from Suffolk. Another cheese similar to Brie with a layer of Black Truffle and a soft British Cream Cheese. Lastly, we grabbed the Whipped Roasary Goats Cheese Doughnut. The goat cheese was from Wiltshire. The creamy goats cheese was whipped with cream and filled a tender doughnut. The doughnut was paired with Apricot and Vanilla Jam, the perfect end to our cheese journey. I was expecting to be crowded even for a weekday but it wasn't and could seat immediately. There are a lot of cheeses with pairings to try and the price varies. The Dazel Ash was my favorite. I have been wanting to try the cheese bar ever since I saw the videos on IG. The set up is same as kaitenzushi, with small plates parading before you, except that they are plates of delicious cheeses instead of riceballs. Brie, mozzarella, gouda, blues, soft-ripen goat, cheddar and more, all made in the UK, though they don't seem to have strong stinky stuff. There's an info sheet about the makers, types of milk and the condiments. It's amazing how each cheese comes with a different pairing, a lot of thoughts obviously went into this, it's not just plain jam from a jar. If you need a more substantial meal, there are grilled cheese sandwiches, and for dessert, goat cheese doughnuts, cheese cakes and even blue cheese ice cream. This is pure heaven for cheeselovers. I seriously hope this idea catches on, so I can go enjoy a few plates with a glass of wine whenever the mood hits, with some friends or even solo. I'm a bit sketched out with sushi boat restaurants, because raw fish and unknown time out, but that worry melts away with resilient cheese. We mostly stuck with the conveyor belt dishes, though I'd highly recommend the melted wheel of cheese too, very hearty and worth the premium. It was honestly all a blur, since we had so many cheese dishes, but every cheese I tried was delicious and mostly worked with their pairings. My absolute favorite was the COOLEA- Classic Gouda-style with a great brittle texture. The crackers are free that you can eat the cheeses with and they will bring you more upon request. The time slot for unlimited cheese it a bit over an hour. Safe to say by the end of the time slot I was feeling a bit miserable from so much cheese but it was all so good I couldn't stop! They serve all British cheese and had some amazing options, and I love that all of the cheeses were accompanied with a garnish that paired perfectly with the cheese. Went for Lunch Food - 5/5. The British cuisine you have to try the most is actually their cheese. Each domestic cheese was of excellent quality and curated with a perfect pairing. My favorite was the smoked gubbeen as it had a mild flavor, enriched by the smoke. The smoke also gave it a firm bite and the denseness made the flavor more bold. The rhubarb & ginger jam was an excellent pairing as the piquant sourness with a bit of sweetness went perfect with the mild cheese. The most surprising was the stilton, as it made me change my mind about blue cheese. Normally, I am not a fan of blue cheese's strong flavor and while the stilton still had those characteristics, it was magically mitigated by being paired with kimchi. It worked really well where the strong flavors of kimchi covered the sharpness of blue cheese, making the creamy rich flavors of the cheese flare out. Their non cheese items were amazing as well with the cured ham being meaty with a gentle salty flavor and the pickled vegetables being great as a palate cleanser. Their desserts were amazing with the creaminess of goat cheese being an excellent fit as doughnut filling. It had a perfect level of sweetness that was balanced out by the zesty flavors of lemon. Service - 4/5. Professional and courteous service. The cheeses are served on a conveyor belt that you can grab as you wish with most of the staff behind the counter, but service was still readily available and prompt. Value - 5/5. Prices vary by plate between £3.95-5.45 for the savory plates and £6.25 for desserts. Each come with a thick slice of cheese and a side that pairs with it. On a Wednesday: 5 stars, unbeatable, love it. For £25 it's so so so much fun and a great way of trying a whole bunch of different cheeses even though you might feel a bit sick afterwards. Any other day: 2 stars for novelty but way too expensive for what it is. You want to try a bunch of different cheese? Pop down to your local supermarket and buy it and you'll walk away with a lifetime's supply for a fraction of what you'll spend here. Plates are tinyyyyy for what you're spending. We're talking 4 quid at a minimum for a tiny little piece of cheese and a drizzle of jam or a biscuit or what have you. All days: this is a fun place for sure and I don't know of any competitors. Always gets a ton of people taking photos etc. Books up in advance and is always buzzy. While I like the concept, I wish the plates were more "one-offs" because on different plates sometimes I liked one thing but not the other. For example, a super musty bleu cheese was paired with a moreish walnut brownie. On another, a lovely St Ella was paired with a Turkish delight that I didn't care for. It would have been nice to have the option to say "just the brownie please". I didn't feel that the pairings worked particularly well either. I think a good alternative is having meat plates and cheese plates separately and then allowing ad hoc jams, jellies, etc to be served. Overall a fun spot. read more

The best way to describe The Cheese Bar is it is a rotating sushi restaurant, but for cheese! How much fun is that! Make sure you make reservations in advance because it is a tiny little place in a food hall. I loved sitting right at the bar, however the stools were incredibly uncomfortable. They do limit the time that you can sit there, but with the stools the way they are, you will likely not be able to last that long! That being said, the food and the experience make up for it. There are cheeses for every type of palate and while you pay a little for the novelty it felt like it was priced about right. I also ordered the grilled cheese sandwich which was amazing. Seven dials market has a collection of some of the most fun places to grab a bite in central London; pick & cheese is most definitely one of those. The menu is primarily a collection of small plates of cheese from across the UK paired with some addition the chief feels would go well with the flavour (e.g. a goat cheese and Turkish delight). There are also a few non-cheese small plates and a few larger plates of grilled cheeses. Overall the menu is a celebration of British cheeses, and its small plate nature lets you taste so many wonderful ones! However, the nature of its small plates is my one point of concern with it; the plates are all placed on a Conveyer belt, with each plate's colour being attached to the price. Now the food is so good and passes by you so much that you want to keep grabbing but you must consider what you grab as plates can get fairly pricey and without ordering off a menu, it is easy to make the meal very quickly get up there in price. This is a meal that can be nice and affordable you just have to make sure you're thinking about what you grab. However, the food is worth the price in my opinion (especially the truffle brie that is a must-get!) and the restaurant is a must-do for any cheese lovers or any casual cheese enjoyers! As an additional note, this is one where you will probably need a reservation, and the reservations require a 10 pound deposit towards the meal, but again it's worth it! read more

Tucked away in the 7 dials market is this one of a kind cheese restaurant. This could be the world's first revolving cheese bar as I've never seen anything like this. First, don't let the small portions of cheese deceive you because you can feel full after 4 - 5 plates. The price per plate ranges from £4 to £6.25 and they also have grilled cheese sandwiches. It was so fun, tasting various cheeses paired with jams, Fudge, pickled veg and breads which really brings out the flavors of the cheese. The staff were super friendly. I'm so happy I discovered this place on Instagram just in time for my trip to London! Pick & Cheese made all of my cheese fantasies come true. I was immediately taken by the fun, shared atmosphere with all the different food and beverage vendors surrounding it within Seven Dials Market. I love cheeses of all varieties, so I basically went in there blind and just ate everything. I will say everything is very organized on the menu as far as flavor profile, origin, and milk source goes. The menu is numbered and each item on the conveyor belt has the corresponding number to make sure you're getting the right thing. This was quite handy for my friend who cannot consume cow's milk, but she was able to eat the goat and sheep milk varieties of cheese. Even if there wasn't something on the belt, the staff was very quick to replenish once it was requested. I would highly recommend this spot as a fun place to enjoy a cheese smorgasbord. read more

Excuse me?!!! Imagine my surprise when I saw the ad for this place on Instagram. So we had to go! Picture this. You know those sushi conveyor belt restaurants? We were greeted right away and was sat promptly on a Tuesday afternoon. I booked a reservation just in case. Tip: The reservation will ask for a £20 deposit which will be deducted from your final bill. I think that was pretty nifty. So just like a regular sushi conveyor belt resto, the cheese plates are color coded and have their own corresponding prices. They also serve wine because duh why wouldn't they. This place has a cool concept but not a brilliant execution. For starters, you're entitled to a small bowl of crackers for each party - not per person - and getting additional costs £1 more. Not exorbitant, but crackers and cheese go together like... well. Cheeses come pre-paired with specific items and sides. That's fine, really, but part of the fun of experimenting with different pairings is having a few options to choose from on your own end. Fresh fruit, jams, all that. Having someone pick for you is fine, but it might be nice to have your own options. If cheese has been on the belt for a while, it does what cheese naturally does when warm - it gets a bit soggy or sweaty. I picked a blue that had clearly been going round for a while and it was a little sad. The jam had leaked all the way over on the plate and the cheese itself was room temperature and sweaty. But what can you do? I didn't think to ask for a fresh slice. All in all, it could stand to see some improvements, but it's still a fun concept and worth a visit. We stumbled on this restaurant while walking around in the Neals Yard area. Their dishes that circulate on a conveyer belt along the counter caught our attention. We took seat at the counter and were immediately helped by the staff who took drink selections and explained the operation. We received a small dish with crackers to eat with the cheese. Each of the items on the belt had a cheese selection and compliment item. The compliment was usually a sweet, pickled vegetable, fruit, or meat. Selections were divided into about four different groups by cost. The plates in each group had the same color. The circulating selections consisted of a plate with the cheese covered by a clear cheese dome and were numbered. There was a menu that identified the particular cheese and its compliment for each of the numbered dishes. We picked some that just looked good as they passed by and selected others from the menu and waited for a dish with the corresponding number to come by. They had a few items that could be ordered that were not on the belt. The staff would pick up the domes and numbers as we consumed items but left the colored plates. At the end they computed our bill based on the number of plates and their color. I enjoyed this meal; it was both good and unique. read more
