I have left messages for the billing department to call me and talked with Physician Network several times that the insurance would pay the bill in full. Received really poor care and checked myself out after 4 days. I had a bad reaction to a anti depressant and my doctor told me to go to the ER. I did but they did not fix it. I came back and they put me in the psych ward even though I was not a danger to myself or others. I was told this was the only way I could receive treatment. OK in the era of Covid and they have a bed to fill- fine. All of their treatments only made my condition worse. I was in a hypo manic state caused by the anti depressant. Mind crushing anxiety, it was like I was on speed, I couldn't sleep and had to walk 24x7. I gutted it out for 7 days before I went into the hospital due to fears of Covid. Like I said they only made it worse. I repeatedly told the doctors that the medicine they were giving me made it worse and they changed them up but in the end I would have been better staying home. OK, psychiatry is educated guess work and I don't respond like other people to medication. I will give them a pass. What was unacceptable was that there were no Covid protocols in place. I was not tested before I was admitted and none of the other residents wore a mask. There were 20-25 people living in close proximity and no social distancing. I had to sit right next to people in order to eat. Even some of the staff didn't wear masks. It was a super spreader event. When I got home I had to social distance from my wife for a week. We are in our 60's and my wife has preexisting conditions that would probably lead to a very bad outcome if she got Covid. In addition they didn't not feed me adequately. I am a 200 pound very fit man who was walking 24 hours a day. I was fed the same rations as a 100 pound sedentary woman. I asked for additional food but was told the doctor had to order it. I asked the doctor but no action was taken. I asked for an "Ensure" supplement which I had seen other people getting -again doctor had to order. I begged for some snacks one evening and they gave me a couple of crackers and a couple of little tubs of peanut butter. I asked for more and was told that is all I could get. I bet they were charging my insurance company several thousand dollars a day for my stay and I can't get a snack? I lost 5 pounds in the 4 days I was there- weight I did not want to lose. read more

So I have had 2 children delivered at Piedmont Medical Center. I would not go there again. While this may be common practice, The issue with the birth of my daughter comes to the Pediatricians they assigned to us. While the hospital is in the network, these Pediatricians were not. I was not ever informed of this or given any other options. The Pediatric group is now looking to charge over 250% of what is usual and customary for their care. My out of pocket expenses for these two doctors is equal to the rest of the medical services we received combined. I am appalled that this hospital would allow doctors with such predatory billing practices be associated with the hospital. For our first child their zealous approach to breast feeding resulted in us leaving the hospital even though my son was not adequately feeding from my wife's breast. Our concerns were met with "Oh no you are doing great." But we don't think he's getting any milk "No he's latched on that's great" 2 days later were were in the pediatric emergency room treating for dehydration. Breast is not Best, Fed is best. So suffice it to say due to issues of level of care and billing practices I would suggest that anyone looking to have a child seek an alternative medical facility. read more

I understand that an emergency room is a busy place. But why does Piedmont advertise their "phone ahead" check in service? We got an 8 pm check-in time at 6 pm. Arrived at 8 pm. Told those check-in times mean nothing. 11 30pm finally in a room but no one has been in since and its 12 15 am. My sister is shivering and I can't even get her a blanket. No one help us. Shameful. I should no better. Waited in ER for 4 hours once with excruciating pain. Overheard triage say " she just has a headache" turned out I had a life threatening brain bleed. I will not go here again. I came into the ER with abdominal pain and fever. They did a CT scan, told me what the problem was, and then sent me on my way, with instructions to follow up with a doctor. But we're in the time of COVID and I need an OBGYN, who can't see me because I am running a fever. So basically, I'm supposed to seek care, but the only care I can seek is the ER who will not take the time to talk to me about what's going on. I will not go to this ER again. From here on out I'll go to the ER over the state line, even if it's out of my insurance, because at least I'll feel like I got appropriate care there. read more

Worst experience with this clinic ever! dishonest billing practices. They charged us 4x after insurance what all other area facilities charged for the same procedure. Refused to negotiate any discounts on the final billing statement. When making 1st payment 4 days after setting up payment arrangements they started us out with double payment and set 1st CURRENT payment out as a late charge. We Pay all of our bills on time so I am very frustrated and angry at their billing departments shark like tactics. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Sat here in a full ER with only one nurse doing triage. Going on three hours. No rooms available. No real triage organization being done. Saw people in front of me needing oxygen and antibiotics waiting as long as we did, just sitting in the lobby. My minor child having progressively worsening right lower abdominal pain. Would not give me the lab results. I'm taking my child to a safer hospital environment. I am a nurse, and would not have brought them if I didn't feel they needed urgent/maybe emergent evaluation. Never seen a worse ran emergency room in all my days. Going to rush them to a different emergency room now at 1AM to hopefully get some relief and a definitive evaluation. Addendum: Even though I appreciate the response, the proof is in the service actually given. I drove a half an hour into North Carolina where my child was seen, received fluids, had labs drawn and a CT scan performed in less than an hour and a half. The doctor has been in twice in that time to discuss the results of the scan, which are serious, but thankfully treatable. In an hour and a half. My night is not over, but the worry of a mother for her child has been mostly alleviated with a diagnosis, pain control and a plan. read more

I typically don't write bad reviews but.... I went here to the ER alone, severe pain and listed my allergy as MORPHINE. It's stops my breathing. During my visit a nurse was preparing to give me morphine. I happened to ask what she was getting ready to give me. She said Morphine and I told her to get the crash cart then because I'm highly allergic. WTF While there for my severe pain the doc told me he found a grape fruit sized tumor on my ovaries and the only fix was a partial hysterectomy. I was shocked. I couldnt walk and asked for a wheelchair which I got and they pointed me on the direction I needed to go. I wheeled myself to my car. They allowed me to drive myself home. I don't remember how I got home but thank God I made it. I followed up with my own OB/Gyn and my PCP. I had multiple tests done and neither saw anything on my ovaries. This place is a backwards institution with idiots acting like nurses and doctors. They are not friendly, warm or caring and their bedside manner is ZERO. I have told everyone I know to stay away from this place. I would not go back if my life depended on it. read more

I sooo wanted to not buy into the negative stigma surrounding Piedmont Medical Center and I desire to patronize our local businesses & facilities, however I was left extremely disappointed about a particular aspect of Piedmont's services. My dad was brought in by ambulance to the ER around 4am due to difficulty breathing & fluid in his lungs. After being stabilized and prepared for admission, he was given a room at 12:15pm. Since my dad is diabetic & was about to be given several pills on an empty stomach, I inquired about when he would be provided lunch. I was told that it was ordered but they didn't know. After inquiring & complaining to everyone I knew at the hospital & calling posted numbers; everyone acted helpless and at the mercy of the food service providers. By 2pm I had to go out & find my father some food so that his meds could be administered. He finally received his first meal at the hospital at 6:30pm, 14 1/2 hours after his arrival. Then the meal was a hamburger cut up on a bun & jello! I inquired about a vegetable or any side for that matter & was told I needed to call the food service provider to let them know that there wasn't a side. A whole hour later they sent some carrots. The nurse, Trina, was initially very dismissive of my concerns. She advised she was calling & doing what she could, but appeared frustrated, annoyed & stretched thin. I have to say in contrast the first responders, ER staff, lab techs, nurse assistants & evening nurses Tonya & Christie were all very friendly, kind, courteous & put my mind at ease. Dr. Ali Riehm & Dr. Campbell were amazing & caring. The cardiologist, Dr. V. Patel helped me understand my dad's condition totally & I have no concerns with the care he will provide. However, the inconsistency in my father's total care & the lack of authority & even helplessness expressed around being able to get my dad a meal during his stay here leaves me uneasy. I have been trying to transition my parents to Rock Hill and depending on this total experience, they might have concerns. I brag Rock Hill all of the time, but I was embarrassed to tell my sister in Atlanta about this aspect of our fathers care. Can you get it together Piedmont??? I have been told that EVERYONE complains about this aspect of your hospital's care and you have yet to solve this problem. I pray my dad leaves here a well man, but if I don't hear about improvements any future hospital needs will be taken care of further down I-77!!! ***UPDATE****CHANGED 2 to 4 STARS I want to thank Piedmont Medical Center for their timely response to my concerns. The Director for Food & Nutrition came to my dad's room to make sure he was getting his meals in a timely manner. She confirmed that they looked into how the problems arose & promised they would resolve. For the remainder of my father's stay, his meals were timely & complete meals that he enjoyed. There were multiple follow ups to ensure things continued to go well. ALL of the nursing staff from that point forward were professional, attentive and friendly. There were no concerns with the attending Physician or the Cardiologist, they were both thorough in their explanation of my dad's condition & follow up care needed. Every institution or business is capable of dropping a ball, it's the response that matters ultimately. Piedmont showed that they cared and are committed doing what is necessary to be better. read more

I had my last 2 children here and I had a great experience! Nurses were all so great. I had 2 c sections so I was was a needy patient. They all helped me tremendously and made sure I was always was comfortable and well taken care of. The only bad thing is the food. Like holy smokes it's bad. I can't believe that this joint is accredited. I had a procedure done at a local surgical center. That facility developed a concern about fluid in my lungs and determined that I needed to go to an ER. I would have been better off requesting that a boy scout, needing a first aid merit badge, to render assistance. It took three hours laying in a gurney before anyone even took my vitals. During this eternal wait I developed a need to use a restroom. I stopped a nurse who had sauntered by at least 15 times and requested assistance. Her response: "Is it number 1 or number 2?" I advised her that I needed to urinate. She stated, "You don't need a restroom," left and retrieved a urinal and a blanket. She tossed these items in my lap and I passed the fluid while lying in the middle of the hallway. NICE ! It took 5 hours to see an MD. Other than an X-ray, they did nothing. The MD decided to release me and I had to get changed in a restroom. When I returned to the room ( 3-4 minutes later) there was another man lying in that same gurney, and using the same sheets ! There was no effort to suggest that any attempt had been made to sanitize/ sterilize that room. DISGUSTING. With COVID, I have been a hermit living in my home. Ten days after my unacceptable experience at PIEDMONT, I noticed a leaking protrusion on my neck and visited my dermatologist. Lab work confirmed that I had MRSA, an infection caused by specific bacteria that are resistant to commonly used antibiotics. Since the surgical center was fastidious in maintaining every protocol under the sun and actually, in my opinion, going overboard, I can only conclude that PIEDMONT was the genesis of this very serious condition. THANKS PIEDMONT, for NOTHING ! As an aside, my wife and I tend to be somewhat socially conscious about how all people are treated. While waiting to be allowed to to see me she had to spend quite a bit of time in the 'Waiting Room'. She commented to me that the facility was very crowded, primarily with people of color. She felt uncomfortable experiencing what has been called 'white privilege' in that expressions of concern ,and attention to her needs, were the subject of ongoing inquiries by the staff. While this was taking place, the other folks in that room were overlooked or completely ignored. Where is the humanity and the practice of dignity toward all? Beyond the facility lacking in elementary health practices, they are in need of remedial instruction in common courtesy and customer service. Against my request I was taken to Piedmont Medical Center via Piedmont owned ambulance. I was suffering yet again of falling asleep on my feet however this time while awake I had no control over my upper torso, my body would just flip over. Once at the hospital I immediately realized where I was. The next thing I know I'm laying on this plastic bed type of thing in a room similar to an X-ray or CAT Scan room. Immediately I became uncomfortable and then as the machine tells you I felt like I was on fire. The electrodes were burning and shocking me. This went on for longer and much worse than a chemical stress test. When I asked why they were doing that the reply was, "You wouldn't stay awake when I was trying to get your information so I had to do something". There was a diagram of my body on this monitor showing where and what I was doing on this machine. First only skeletal showed up, however when my leg slipped and my knee went out my back lit up bright green. They told me the machine was a CAT Scan. Thier diagnosis at that time was that I overdosed on my pain meds. But that was quickly ruled out once they realized that I had only taken less than allowed and half that was prescribed. The next diagnosis was after my episode with their nasty machine. Yep, you guessed it, a broken back. Once admitted into Piedmont's Observatory floor it just got worse. nasty impolite nurses too busy to help and a definite racial bias that Let you know they didn't care. I signed myself out of that hospital for fear they would only hurt me worse. I wonder how it I will get a nasty virus from being forced to walk over dried and wet urine barefooted in order to use the bathroom! The icing on the cake, my drivers license which had a very prominent place in my wallet is now gone and I know it was there only hours before I went to Piedmont because I pulled the twenty out from behind it while still at my home. I don't have a clue who Piedmont has reviewing their emergency room Xrays, but they should be fired. My family is 0-2 for the last two visits over possible broken bones. In the Spring of 2017, an ankle injury (by Xray) was diagnosed as "BROKEN". Upon visiting an Orthopedic specialist (elswhere), was informed "NOT BROKEN". Fast forward to 8/25/17, another possible broken bone (wrist) was diagnosed in Piedmont ER as "NOT BROKEN" only to find with another offsite Orthopedic specialist - "YES, BROKEN". Get it together Piedmont! Healthcare isn't cheap. Do it right or don't do it at all! read more

This hospital is by far the worst I have ever experienced in my life. I have been a patient here and got absolutely zero diagnosis. The doctor actually said her staff didnt know how to take blood pressure correctly. Cost me thousands for absolutely nothing. I watched a senior gentleman constantly throwing up for over 2 hours in the waiting room and still wasn't taken care of. Another woman was having serious chest pain and complete numbness of her left arm. She waited 4 hours in the waiting room. Fast forward to today. My wife is going in to be induced. We just moved here so we have no friends or family and they refused to allow my 10 year old kids to at least go up to the maternity waiting room while we checked my wife in because they were not 12. I said the will mask up and rub sanitizer all over. I was expected to leave them in the main lobby with no security and a senior citizen that can barely see over the counter to watch my kids. Who also said she wouldn't watch my kids. I ask if a security could at least come stand with them for a few minutes so my wife wouldn't be alone.. Again told NO.. COMPLETE SHIT read more

I guess since I ACTUALLY have insurance AND PAY my bills - it is far too much to ask someone to work after 11am on a Friday. What happened to me in the Piedmont Medical Center ER on 12/4/2019 cannot even be written on this site. Question what ER you should go to for care. The Hospital in Rock Hill or even the new Stand alone ER in Fort Mill. They are both Owned by the same company. I strongly suggest doing your homework before you settle on staying close in your community. Convenient location does not always mean better care in the event of an Emergency. I can say the Nurses and staff for inpatient on floors 2 and 3 in the old hospital were excellent, it is the process of getting to that care that is the issue. I am doing my best to not go to this facility. Unfortunately some of my doctors do not have privileges elsewhere. read more

I've recently last week went to the emergency room to rehydrate me. I mentioned that my left shoulder was hurting a little bit and that I had had major back surgery and needed some pain relief. This place lets people bring food into the waiting area in the emergency room. Some cultures of people don't believe in cleaning up behind themselves. The lobby look like an after concert mess there were soda cans potato chips all over the floor. The floor look like it had not been swept and mopped in weeks. The door would go back and forth and sound like a freight train because the maintenance crew would not even Grease the proper places. I understand that trauma patients need to be looked at first however, I watch them take people before me that we're not in as much pain and misery that I was experiencing. Eventually a doctor came in interviewed me and said that because my hand was shaking a little bit they needed to admit me in the hospital for overnight well they rehydrated me. They blew a vein in my right arm trying to start an IV, then went to my left arm gotan IV started to close to my elbow joint. I would notify the nurses and they would come in look at it and slap a piece of tape across it. They started because you would have to push the pain button administering morphine through my IV every 4 hours. Which was a joke to because you would have to push the pain button when it was time for your meds it would take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour for them to finally bring the meds soon. I wish I would have been coherent enough to written down her name. I saw her only gives me a fraction of the morphine and then took the needle out of the room, re-entered the room within 2 minutes and disposed the syringe into the hazardous bio container. Proper protocol is to administer the medicine dispose of the syringe immediately the container. I would push the nurses button requesting more water, and it would sometimes take 30 minutes to get a cup of water I asked the nurse for a pitcher of water and she stayed it that they don't do that there they had me on a bed alarm and I would have to call them so that I may use the rest room. I was told to use the handheld urinal however to use it properly you must hang your legs over the edge of the bed and slide forward. This would set the alarm off so I tried to use it laying in my bed most of the urine went on to the center of the bed. I push the call button and when the night Nurse walked in she did not even change the sheets and put down one of those pee pee pads I asked her about my wet gown and blanket and she said to deal with it and sleep. The meals were always at least 2 hours late, and the food tasted like crap. I called the nurses station the second night and they accidentally left the speaker on and they were watching basketball games I guess. I started yelling that your speaker is on and that they should not be watching basketball instead of waiting on patients. The girl said it was on my end speaker watching TV. I told her I was watching Fox News not basketball games.my iv started leaking blood again and they were going to put more tape on it I made them relocate it behind my wrist pointing up my arm as to not been the needle and make everything bleed. The next afternoon I put my clothes on, and one of the nicer elderly nurses walked by and saw me and asked me what was I doing. I explained to her that I was checking myself out of there. She said I would need to sign a waiver. I requested to see the doctor which I never even saw in two days and in fact don't even know who she or he was.. we went to the nursing station and she told the nurse I wanted to meet my doctor and that I was checking out. She walked 20 foot into a little room, and came out with a form and stay did the doctor said if I were to check out a day early of the detox program, which I did not go in the hospital for, Medicare would not pay for my visit. I told them to bill me for it and then I would sue the heck out of them they never once swept my room or changed my bed sheets or got me up to walk. I knew better to go there because I have lived in this town for 25 years, and this hospital has always been very very bad. The staff is truly unprofessional and I am writing the president of whoever owns this place now and Reporting the nurse stealing the morphine and also notifying proper police authorities. I would not recommend even taking your pet into this Rat Hole if you don't want to die because of an ingrown toenail, in my opinion, do not go to this so-called Hospital. I went to another facility in Charlotte and within 14 hours they Straighten It Up what Piedmont Medical Center screwed up with me. read more

I partially amputated one of my fingers.Due to an extensive medical history, I had to call 911 and go by ambulance. The medics treated me great on the way to the hospital, and took all of the proper "precautions". Once at the hospital, I was taken to triage, then to a treatment room. The entire ED was very clean, and all of the staff were extremely nice and caring. Even the ones not involved in my case. I was in the treatment room maybe 5 minutes when Dr. Ohar came in to look at my hand. He explained everything he was going to do, was thorough and gentle at the same time. as someone who has been in many Emergency Departments on both sides of the stretcher, Piedmont ED is up there. read more

I am really surprised about all the reviews here and in my experience, I have good things to say. I had to go to the ER due to my child having breathing problems. They took good care of my daughter and they were able to get to the bottom of the problem, which was pneumonia. I was also able to get access to a Covid-19 test for my toddler as well. Grant that it took 9 days to get the results, but that is not the hospital's fault. My attending physician in the ER was also great, professional and was really sweet to give my little girl a popsicle after her getting her nose swabbed. That is above and beyond service. Hopefully we never need another emergency service, but if it happens, I would go back. read more

I recently visited someone in the ICU here. I found a parking spot near the entrance both times I was there. The people at the Information Desk were friendly to us. They asked if we needed help as soon as we walked in, but didn't press us when we said we knew where we were headed. The nurses were professional and attentive. I went into Piedmont Medical Center Emergency Department on Sunday 3/1/2020. Throughout the assessment (the morning shift nurse),blood work,(ED phlebotomist & 2nd floor nurse Charlotte) EKG Tech (ED Depart), CT Scan department; Doctor scheduled and Intern, I was treated with dignity and respect. The second floor team of Nurses, Techs and CNA's on all shifts were caring an professional. The doctor called in a specialist to further assess the problem. I met Dr. Jason Rigoni who is knowledgeable and qualified to perform his duties as a Surgeon. He was patient, informative and understanding to me and of my emotional state. He listened and explained how the procedure will happen. I never had surgery before and was alone. I requested to see clergy (scared but accepting of what is before me). A group of people prayed with me and for the surgeon operating on me.The amazing nurse, intern and anesthesiologist who prepared me for surgery; well you could not ask for a better team. I thank God for being instrumental in my life, being present at all times and allowing people to care. Thank you Piedmont Medical Center for the best team and care given to me. Not sure why some of the negative reviews. I read them and I feel bad for the patients, but hospitals are typically busy, can be understaffed for any number of unexpected reasons and frequently get slammed with new patients all at once. My experiences have been 5-star. 99% of the staff appeared capable, efficient, kind and caring. One of my visits was to the ER and the attending physician (Dr. Lee) even called me a couple of days later AT HOME to see how I was feeling. Who even does that any more? read more

Medical personnel and staff were excellent. My complaint is the ridiculous cost of a 5 minute ambulance ride within 10 miles from PMC. $1800.00 is unfathomable! If I would have known in advance of this cost I would've called an Uber driver or anyone else for that matter. I think they trying to cause a heart attack since I survived that visit. :-( read more

My mom was brought in for a broken hip and wrist. She's 87 years old. The trauma team in emergency was awesome and took good care of setting her wrist. We were checked into PCU on the third floor. The nursing staff overall was cold, uncommunicative and incompetent. I do want to commend two of the nursing assistants, Angel and Linda- they were amazing, experienced, compassionate and treated my mother and us with respect.They even prayed with us over my mother. The first night one of the nurses didn't give her beta blocker (she has a heart condition) so it impacted her heart rate and she was forced to go another day in agony with a broken hip. They tried several times to put in a catheter and were unsuccessful and were unable to put in the Purewick correctly (the nursing assistants were able to do it when they tried) so they had to change her multiple times causing more agony each time. The second night they overdosed her on a pain patch and Dilaudid to the point where they had to reverse it with Narcan. It's horrible to watch a loved one scream in pain for so long. Post-op, anesthesia and surgical team (Dr. Wednt) were amazing- respectful and gave her relief immediately. When she returned to the room it took three hours for the nurse to get a hold of a doctor to give her something stronger than Tylenol. We finally reached palliative care and they were able to give her pain meds and some relief post surgery. We have 5 more days as she recovers enough to move to rehab. Praying that mom has more successful encounters and is comfortable for the remainder of her stay. read more

This Hospital is the worst! My wife thought we might possibly be having a miscarriage and went to the hospital at 7:30 at 1:30 we were placed in a room with someone else's blood hanging on the wall and the floor! In today's environment of blood borne illnesses this is completely unacceptable. After two hours someone came to clean the room. We though of leaving then but we needed to know if the baby was alright. At about 4 AM they finally did an ultrasound but refused to let me come into the room and also refused to tell my wife any information. They released her to go home around 5 AM and said she would have to consult with another OB to decide long term viability of our baby! When the bill came it was $2800 plus and this facility refused for over a year to give us a detail of the charges. When the charges were finally released there were charges on there that we had no knowledge of. I filed a formal complaint and was mailed back a letter that basically said we are sorry but you owe us this money. I have contacted an attorney and I am also contacting DHEC and the media as well. I went into the er on Sunday November 22 with terrible breathing problems I was in so much pain . Just had triple bypass 5 years ago and now have been having lots of medical problems. Told them at desk my problem before I could even sit. Down been took back for ekg which was amazing I could not believe how quick that happened. Got vitals then back to lobby before got to lobby they called for chest X-ray wow . Then back to lobby again before could sit down they called my name for lab work. These people have it going on now . Do not know what happened or if it was just day shift but piedmont medical center you rocked on Sunday . When my lab work was done then took to room ready with gown blood pressure oxygen and next thing doctor in then respiratory then all the meds then the paperwork what more could u ask for ? The staff the nurses everyone quick to respond . Now folks listen the emergency room is that emergency they take cases that are life threatening if you have a sore toe go to urgent care otherwise you are going to have to wait if a person in the er is having a stroke compared to a toe the stroke comes first not a sore throat. Now there are so many doctors that work the er and they have so many rooms they can't put u in there if there is know bed . And if you want to see a doctor don't complain give them time to get through you don't know what is going on in another room . So if it is a cold try to wait till morning go to your reg doctor. My husband was transported by Piedmont Ambulance to Piedmont Hospital this past Thursday, right into the ER with a serious medical issue. The Piedmont Ambulance staff were so kind and caring with him as well as all of the medical staff we had in the ER. They explained everything they were doing which was a great reassurance to us both. The Patient Liaison was awesome. She came in a few times to check in and was so caring and encouraging. The first night my husband spent on the 4th floor. Again, the medical and nursing staff were caring and encouraging. Especially the evening RN Lindsay who went above and beyond. She explained things to me which eased my heart. The next night he was on the second floor, Med/Surg. Once again, the medical and nursing staff were awesome. Needless to say, our experience with Piedmont Hospital didn't disappoint. They have been our "go to" hospital since 2004. We have always had great care and wouldn't go any where else. We had a bad experience with CMC Pineville and are so glad that we have another option for a hospital. Thank you Piedmont staff. read more
