We decided to have dinner at Pier while we were visiting Queenstown. The location is nice, we sat outdoors and the views of the water and shops is great. However the food was nothing special and the service was slow. We were seated fairly quickly, but then waited a very long time for the server to come to the table. We figured it had taken so long that we had better order our drinks, appetizers and entrees right then or who knows how long it would have taken. I had the risotto entree which was fine, and the espresso martini. My spouse had the lamb shank which had very little meat. No one really enjoyed the experience at Pier unfortunately.

It's easy to get overwhelmed in Queenstown trying to find a place to eat. Pier is as its name implies, right on the water. The location is why we picked the restaurant. Weather was nice, so the outdoor seating was appealing. Service was fairly quick. We chose the seafood linguine and venison pot pie. The pasta dish was great--the seafood was fresh and plentiful. The sauce was flavored with red bell pepper (capsicum) that went well with the seafood. It was light and did not overwhelm the dish. The pot pie was great as well. It's not something you can normally get, so it was a great. The puff pastry was baked just right, and the filling was flavorful. You pay by going up to the stand by the entrance and not at the table. I was wondering how they kept track of the tables. You just point to where you sat, and they pull up the bill. Remember what you ordered (especially the drinks) because they listed an additional item we didn't order. They were apologetic and corrected it, but it's always good to be aware, even if it's a simple mistake.

This was our first and last stop for food while we were in Queenstown, and it was one of the best. I am from the US and I absolutely love caesar salads, and I must say their's was one of the better ones I had during the trip to Australia and NZ. However, the clam chowder takes the cake BY FAR. Overall the combo of salad, seafood chowder, and mulled wine was unmatched on a cold winter day. They have lots of heaters outside, so it was totally fine to sit outside and enjoy the gorgeous view, despite the cold weather. The brunch was great too, however the avocado toast wouldn't be my go-to again. The corn fritter was really good though!

Seafood chowder. Fish, salmon, crab and mussels.

The food was amazing! The view was spectacular from an al fresco table complete with umbrella and space heater. We had wine , the seafood chowder, the house salad, the ham and cheese croquettes. And a friend had the Brie stuffed chicken breast! Fabulous food but the wait staff was over worked and lacked the time to be attentive. I would recommend the Pier!

Location is perfect if you love sitting under the sun overlooking the Wakatipu Lake. It's sunny and breezy today, a perfect day to have brunch after church. People are casually dressed but the place was classy. My breakfast came out before my latte which was a bit of a disappointment since I wanted my coffee way before my breakfast. Servers were apologetic and expressed that most of the customers just came in to order their cappuccino and espresso. Giving this place a 3.25 out of 5.

Had late lunch my wife ate the fish and chips and I had the Cesar salad with grilled chicken both fresh and delicious.

DATE OF VISIT: end of February 2020 SERVICE: beyond 5 stars VIEWS: 5 stars FOOD: 5 stars RECOMMENDATIONS: Pan Seared Scallops, Truffle Parmesan Fries (see my pictures) LOW CARB OPTIONS: Oysters, Mussels, Pan Seared Scallops, Salmon Salad I chose this restaurant for their menu as I LOVE SEAFOOD and living in Arizona, we don't get much fresh seafood. It's a rather small menu but delicious, nonetheless. The staff was INCREDIBLY friendly and so helpful. We walked by in the afternoon and put our names down for dinner and they were so accommodating giving us a PRIME spot outside where we can stare at the absolutely spectacular views! There were actually customers that snuck in and sat on the patio right as we were going to be seated and the staff politely told them they had to wait for a table and got both us and them sat. I absolutely appreciate when staff steps up to make sure that everyone is honored. I am a sucker for scallops and would 100% order these again. They were seared perfectly (not overcooked). I wanted a little something more with my 3 scallops and the truffle parmesan fries were EXCELLENT. I am also picky about my fries, I don't like fries that are battered, I prefer them smooth but crispy and these were exactly that! This was almost a year ago and I still think about this meal! We plan on returning to Queenstown and this would definitely be on the list!

Went to Pier for brunch and had a fantastic experience. The food was god-sent, and our drinks were marvelous! The french toast had a medley of flavors - the fruit was a great touch.

Mark and I stopped here for a lite lunch after our mountain adventure. This place is right next to the lake and has prime views of the lake, the mountains and the pedestrian street scene. The location is prime and this is reflected in the prices. VERY expensive. We ordered the salt and pepper calamari for an appetizer. We ordered the Mount Vernon Sauvignon Blanc. We split a main dish of the fish and chips. The wine was incredible. The calamari was good. It was not breaded but was instead flash fried with a light dusting of herbs. It came with a spicy mayonnaise. It would have been better if fully breaded. The portion was very small for the price. The fish and chips was delicious. It came with two fish planks, coleslaw law and a generous portion of fries. The fish was light and delicious. The fries were hot and delicious! The coleslaw was good. Total price before tip was $95 NZD. Pricey but you are paying for the prime location and views. Service is good but not great. Overall we liked this place and would come back.

We went here for a late lunch after getting off the TSS Earnslaw because it had a nice patio with heaters and a view of the water. We had the Cod tacos and fish and chips and both were really tasty. The brownie with ice cream for dessert was also great. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was as good as the view here.

The interior was rustic, spacious, with a warm and comforting ambiance. I wanted to try a little of everything, so ordered the Flame Mixed Grill ($67 NZ), which consisted of famous Ribs, grilled Sirloin Steak, Boerewors Sausage, rotisserie Peri Peri Chicken, along with roasted baby potatoes with sour cream. This took awhile to come out, but it was worth it! Ribs were sticky in a bold, smoky, tangy, savory BBQ sauce. The meat was delightfully tender. Steak was cooked perfectly, succulent, and well seasoned. Sausage was slightly charred and quite juicy, paired wonderfully with flavorful chimichurri. Chicken was not really my favorite, as I found it lacked flavor and was a bit dry. Potatoes were soft and pillowy that worked nicely with the creamy sour cream, but only 3 small ones. Service was solid. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was tasty and it was a lovely, hearty feast of a dinner!

Not much to look at but it was a little quieter and away from the ovens back there. Husband had the fettuccine carbonara and I had a margarita pizza. Both were excellent. We started with a Caprese salad which was also excellent. My pizza had homemade crust with the bubbly burnt edges that happens in a woodfire oven. So good. Service was excellent. The restaurant itself is long and narrow, so tables on one side and servers and the kitchen on the other. I ordered bruschetta for my starter & spaghetti bolognese for my main. The bruschetta came out with sliced prosciutto on top which I could have done without. I wished for more tomatoes, onion, and oil. The spaghetti bolognese was flavorful but just ok? Like, I'm not Italian but can make a better version of that at home. Although it's a simple dish, that probably not something you want to hear when you're selling it for $36 NZD. So the overall dining experience was a bit meh. I went to a pizzeria in Te Anau with better flavors. It might be a nice dinner date because the ambiance is lovely, if a bit loud. The service was fine, if a bit on the slow side.
