My brother took us to his favorite local winery: Piera 1899. The tasting room is a modern looking building with no front view of any vineyards, so I was a bit skeptical about it when we first arrived. Luckily, I will quickly proved wrong and reminded why we shouldn't judge a book by its cover. The interior is a very clean and sleek modern twist for a winery tasting room. There was nothing reminiscent of rustic Italy, but it was very welcoming at the same time.
The wine specialist that was conducting the tastings and basically running the whole place by herself was very welcoming and friendly. The wine selections for tasting was nice and there is no charge for the tasting. Unlike the other winery we had just left, Piera 1899 gave us a small charcuterie board to accompany our tasting. This was such an unexpected but amazing touch to making an experience above and beyond.
She was very knowledgeable and provided her thoughts and suggestions based on our feedback on the wines we tasted. There were so many to taste that we didn't get to taste everything as we didn't want to get drunk on a lightly filled stomach. The wines were so good we left with about a dozen bottles. There was also a small room with steel barrels that brewed "house wine" and sold for a very reasonable price by the liter. We saw some regulars come in with their glass containers buying some of those wines. I wish we had that option at the wineries in California.
I can't wait to go back to Piera 1899 and stock up on some more of their wonderful wines. Will need to bring some back next trip! read more
