Hands down one of the best hidden gems in the city. Pierce's park is the best example of maximizing what can be offered in a relatively small space). Even though it's just a corner behind the aquarium, it feels huge. We love to bring the babies to Pierce's park because it is an experience unlike any other. A true "sensory" park, Pierce's park is full of sounds and sights and touches to inspire, entertain, and educate the littles. Of course it's also tons of fun for the parents too. And there's still a nice sized grassy area for picnic lunch when you're all pooped out. There are several huge xylophones, a bamboo tunnel, the homophone Boardwalk (guessed/guest and similar carved into the paving stones), a giant sound tunnel, and more! It's off the main road, behind the aquarium downtown, and mostly surrounded by a fence so the babies can run a bit without worry of traffic (a nice bonus in the city). And honestly it's surprisingly quiet for being so close to the hustle and bustle of the inner harbor. I'm not sure at what age you stop having fun here but I love to come here as often as possible. If you're in the city and looking for an off-beat outdoor experience, definitely check it out.

    A unique park entrance sign.

I was looking for another park to enjoy out by the Harbor and I found this one. It has beautiful scenery and restaurants nearby. You can walk around the pier, check out the park, or go to the aquarium--it's totally up to you and who you go with. There is street parking and garage parking (both paid parking-i went on a Sunday). I parked at the Aquarium's garage because it's not that easy to find street parking by the Harbor in the daytime. My friend and I enjoyed walking on the board walk by the water and lounging at Pierce park. It's a great spot for singles, couples, families, kids, and seniors. It's very beautiful at night when the lights are lit up at the park. You can take pictures, eat at the nearby benches, or simply walk around. Enjoy.

How charming is this little park! Next to the water and museums and tall ships? Made me long for the days when I had little ones who would've run gleefully through here, small hands touching everything, big smiles lighting up my heart. Eyes shining with joy and awe. Great park for all the clever design elements and the location.

This is a lovely, meditative spot...a reverie of a place, from the imagination of a genius child. It's a real destination in its own right!

Me and my friends made a quick stop on the way home from brunch in the Cross Keys area, and the day was perfect for it. The park was alive with families and their furry friends just having small picnics and taking in the scenery. If you're not familiar with Sherwood Garden's, it's a privately owned community park in the Guilford section of Baltimore City. It's been famous for its annual tulip since the 1920's by John Sherwood, whose home bordered the park. To this day up to 70000 tulips are planted annually along with other flowers such as magnolias and dogwoods to name a few. Best time to visit is always towards the end of April and beginning of May. Although a private park, the public is always invited to stroll at your leisure throughout the grounds. The ongoing displays are 100% privately funded and depends entirely on contributions to fulfill its mission of providing a natural place for recreation for the community and related education.

There is no start or end, so just park on one of the surrounding streets and walk over. We were there the third weekend in April, and while the tulips were definitely past their peak, and many were completely gone, there were plenty of flower beds of tulips still blooming. Plus, almost all of the azaleas were blooming. I loved that they had so many different colored tulips and azaleas. They did different combination of colors in all the different flower beds, so we ended up seeing some surprisingly beautiful displays, even with some tulips no longer blooming. We weren't there very long because it was cold out, but this would be a great spot for engagement pictures or a picnic.

Notably, the parking lot requires an advance reservation on peak dates, and this policy has been expanded to cover more dates due to the pandemic lockdown pushing people to spend their days outdoors. The trail is a short loop to the falls. Great Falls this isn't, but it's significant enough to generate a nice spray. A rather upset-looking fish flopped down shallow water as I approached. Upstream of the falls was a challenge. Few fords were viable, perhaps owing to heavy rain, and signs suggesting the area was blocked off were ignored by expeditions looking for better crossings. I made it across the stream and back, but I did get a little wet. The scenery isn't worth a long drive on its own, but paired with the other local park sites, it makes for good viewing, and in particular this space with its parking limitations can't get too crowded.
