I have a huge sweet tooth, but I don't like macaroons. I tried store packaged ones from Marshall's and they were too sweet. The ones from here are good because they are fresh, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy anymore because they are too sweet for me. I'm not going to like them just because everyone else in the world likes it. That goes the same for those ugly overpriced Chanel bags with the big C's or the ugly canvas Louis Vuitton bags ( I have one I used maybe 15 times that I bought in 2003 and the shit still looks new. Love love LOVE the macarons here. Now I purchased some macarons at their location on Champs de Elysee but I thought the sales person was pretty snooty and frankly I don't care to hand over money to some dipstick who acts like they're better than their customers. Anyway, at THIS location on Rue Cambon the sales person was super nice and helpful so I'd suggest you visit this location instead. I don't speak any French other than bonjour and merci, but it wasn't an issue at all. Now onto the actual macarons. I was asked whether Laduree's was better and I think when both are fresh, I kind of like the chewiness of Laduree's a bit more BUT the flavor combinations and the actual intensity of the flavors at Pierre Herme just wins me over completely. Coming here is like shopping for jewelry. VERY expensive jewelry. You want it all. The question is, are you going to buy it all? Everything here is beautifully displayed and stylized like little jewels. Empty decorated jewel boxes await your choices so that they can be filled and then return home with you. Macaroons with vibrant colors and bold flavor combinations are eyeopening and mouthwatering. My personal favorites of the macaroons: Cassis, Huile d'Olive & Vanille, Abricot Pastiche, Caramel a la Fleur de Sel. Everything is so extremely well executed, the flavors, colors and combinations just work and are a joy to experience. One thing is for sure, coming here is more than just a must, it should be a ritual. PH and his staff are the forefront of what's what in pastry. Best macarons in Paris! They had a huge selection in flavors and they were all good in their own unique way.

Beyond doubt PH has the best macarons in town (way better and less sweet than Laduree macarons in case you're wondering). The outer crust is just crispy enough, but the soft tender filling is what makes it perfect. One bite and you're in heaven. It's a little expensive but definitely worth the price! All flavors are good (try new ones!), and but my personal favorites are: rose, green tea, and jasmine. Side note: March 20 is international Macaron day! You can enter any PH store and get a macaron by "donating" any $ amount (a proportion of all sales will be donated by Pierre Hermé to the Autism cause). read more

I think I would give this Pierre Herme 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up to 4. The macarons were deliciously flavorful and service was good, as it had better be for the price you pay for them! The packaging was also sturdy and beautiful. I had also gone to Laduree and gotten a box of macarons there that ended up getting partially squashed, but Pierre Herme's box is much sturdier. However, I think that everyone knows that macarons need to be aired out at room temperature after they're refrigerated, before being consumed. Otherwise, they're chewy and hard instead of soft, fluffy and crispy. Some of the macarons I chose had noticeably been refrigerated because they were still slightly cold when I bit into them, and had not been fully aired out and returned to room temperature yet. Therefore, they did not have the soft, fluffy and crispy texture that they should have all had. I don't know... I feel like this is a newbie faux pas, and I don't know why or how a dedicated high-end macaron establishment could make this mistake. read more

I wasn't a big fan of macaroons until I met Pierre Herme. How wrong was I?? Seriously these are probably the BEST MACAROONS IN THE WORLD!! They have a perfect light crunch to them and a soft center and are just bursting with flavor. I loved the chocolate passion fruit one! I'd have to say that they definitely are richer and less sweet that Laduree. I couldn't recommend this place any higher if you were in Paris and happened to walk by. My favorite place for macarons! The strength of Pierre Herme lies in its fillings. The crust, to be honest, is not as crispy as Laduree's. The fillings however, compensate for this weakness. I highly recommend the Caramel au Beurre Sale, and the Chocolate & Foie Gras flavor. The packaging of Pierre Herme is not as glamorous as Laduree, but I also feel that it's less commercial. Honestly THE best macarons I've ever tasted. Really like it better than Laduree. Don't get me wrong...Laduree is my number 2. Pierre had me at pistachio... The pistachio is my favorite and now that I'm back in the States, I dream of going back (or of a branch opening here in the US ) and just gobbling up all their flavors!! This bakery is located in the upscale area of Paris, amongst designer stores and famous landmarks. They do not have many pastries, only macaroons, tarts, and chocolates. However, the macaroons I had here were the best I had during my trip. Try the jasmine one! It's green and purple (picture posted) and tasted amazing. If you're willing to walk a bit, you can eat your treat outside the louvre in the gardens. Worth the wait. read more

I was looking forward to come to France and tried these amazing looking Macaroons but I was disappointed in a few ways with this Pierre Herme location. The staff was very rude right when we walked in, perhaps they knew we were tourist. They seemed very annoyed having to speak English. I ordered a box of 6pcs and right before I pay, I thought about added two more to give to my sister who was sitting in the hotel. The lady was not happy, because she had to put on another pair of gloves. She asked if it was to eat now?, I said "No, for later", she got even more annoyed with us. She sighed and grab the macaroon. I thought she would of thrown the macaroon at me at this point. I just don't understand the vibe. After, getting too excited grabbing the caramels, the chocolate box, macaroons and the other jelly sweets, we spent over 80 euro on sweets (that's over $100 USD) in this little shop. After we left, we notice there is an extra 5 euro charged, but we didn't understand what the charge was for, so we turned around and asked her, she told us it was the cost of the box for the macaroon. I still don't know if that is a legit charge or was she annoyed with us and rip us off. I have never heard being charged for a box to put your product in, but OK. I don't think all location are like this, but wish we had a better experiences at this location. read more

13 flavors to choose from -- got a box of 7 for 17 euros. so now i understand how a macaron is supposed to be. perfect shell--super smooth and delicate, crumbles very easily (extremely thin flat crisp outer part) but not flakey nor any chewiness at all (just airy), amazing flavor with a perfect blend from shell to ganache inside -- a noticeable difference from other chewy macarons also they actually last for a couple days but do start wilting in high temp. tried caramel, chocolate, pistachio, rose, violet, passionfruit, arabesque (not that good) Laduree is all over, but this place has the perfect macaron. read more

These are the kinds of macarons that make other European countries want to cross borders and murder for.

The strawberry, rhubarb, and passion fruit macaron is the best macaron I've ever had. Too bad I could only afford one as macarons here are even more insanely priced than Laduree (yes, it's possible!) at almost $6 for each tiny cookie. Pierre Herme has more adventurous flavors such as "carmamelized fennel and lemon" that sets it apart from the many other macaron shops in Paris. The store is very minimalistic and almost barren looking compared to Laduree, which is much more ornate and sells mostly single flavored macarons. If Pierre Herme and Laduree were the same price, I'd prefer Pierre Herme, however I think Laduree is just as good minus the crazy flavors. I personally wouldn't recommend the caramels. At $25 for a dinky can of 12 caramels, I was expecting these caramels to be morsels of heaven. I wasn't too impressed. Use that money to get caramels at Jacques Genin instead. read more

My new favorite macaron stop in Paris! Not as touristy/commercial as Laduree, and they have the Ispahan croissant. This croissant is special because it has a combination of rose, litchi, and raspberry with almond cream hiding inside the flakey fluffy layers. It is also flavored with rose water and studded with litchis. I wish I bought a dozen to bring back with me to NYC! I cannot wait to try it again... read more

They have pretty macarons. Bit too sweet and soft. Not much nuts. We liked macarons from Maison Pradier much better. We got 10 macarons from Pierre and 10 from Pradiere (on two different days). Still have few left from Pierre. We finished the ones from Pradier in 2 minutes! Probably will not go back to PH again. Bit over-rated. Probably another tourist trap. read more

Macarons appear to be the French equivalent to the U.S. cupcake trend. I like it! I prefer this shop to Laduree, it felt less of a "tourist-must-check-off-my-list" and there was no mob scene. Best macarons in Paris. And I don't believe there is such a thing as a bad macaron. What sets these apart? The flavors. Pierre Herme carefully crafts his flavors into collections and his thoughtfulness shows. I carefully "oohhed, ahheed, and hmmed" before settling on a creme brulee macaron (when in paris...). HEAVEN. It was the most delicious bite of food I have had on my trip thus far. Buttery, airy, creamy, and crunch...all in one cookie. If you are in Paris this is THE PLACE for a macaron.
