The line moved quickly, and we were seated with a great view of the dining room. It felt refined but still comfortable. So Angelina's fine. For me, it's a bit hyped up. My sister, loved it. She even bought their prepackaged bottle of hot chocolate to take home. This hot chocolate is decadent. It really tastes like melted chocolate with a bit of milk mixed in to make it more drinkable. We went at a bit of an off time, late morning and it wasn't overly busy. We saw our server once and I couldn't recall who he was when it came time to get the bill. I asked a hostess walking by for our check and she told me to ask our server while walking away. We were able to flag another server down eventually but the whole process just took too long. The tables for four have chairs that don't quite tuck in causing for a bit awkward seating. If you like really thick hot chocolate, give it a try but otherwise ok to miss this one. Plenty of good hot chocolate throughout the city. read more

Ah, the glory of Angelina! Two weeks ago, I revisited my favorite spot in Paris. Their drop dead gorgeous dining room, friendly service, picture perfect pastries, and, most of all, the classic and best ever hot chocolate. I can see why Jackie O came here back in the day. Everything is super luxurious and so comforting. The hot chocolate is the one thing you must get. They now call it their classic chocolate, but it's the one they used to call L'Africain back in the day when they actually offered a menu of various styles of hot chocolate. It's rich, thick and oh so super chocolatey. Nothing short of luxurious. At 9€, it's both a calorie and money splurge, but oh so worth it. Tip: I was happy to see that they now have a cart outside the tea room where one can purchase a cup of hot chocolate to go. And at 7€, it's 2€ less than inside the tea room. I came here for the history and how iconic Angelina's is. It opened in 1903 as the original location, and Coco Chanel was a regular. The claim is the recipe for their hot chocolate, a blend of cocoa from Africa that is a guarded trade secret, hasn't changed too much since they first opened. I definitely built this place up in my head. However, the drink they are famous for, Angelina's L'Africain, was a disappointment. The texture came across slightly powdery, like the cocoa wasn't fully blended. It felt heavy, like melted chocolate. I love a heavy hot chocolate, so the richness itself was never an issue. The problem was the taste. The chocolate didn't come across as high quality at all. The dealbreakers were the slightly powdery texture and the chocolate quality, which just didn't live up to the hype. I've had hot chocolate in Paris that was way better. This place is way overrated. We went to the one across from Jardin tulieres. We were sat immediately upstairs in a dingy, musty, corner. We got the hot chocolate and iconic mont Blanc. They were just ok and my son got an eclair. Nothing was exceptional and if you have a choice or are torn, I would try the other choice. We just felt disappointed after this stop. It's been a long time goal of mine to go to the original Angelina, where Coco Chanel was a regular! It didn't disappoint. I got the brunch set menu with eggs, the iconic hot coco, juice, and chocolate croissants and baguette with jam and butter. It was all divine. And the location? Short walk from the Louvre and just romantic and feminine interiors. It was classy. We were advised to go in line before opening. We arrived 5 till opening and there was already a short line. No wait on a Sunday morning around 8:45am. Some seats are a bit tight inside. Ordered the hot chocolate, crepe, and French toast. Hot chocolate is good, especially with the whipped cream. The crepe could have been better and was a bit too sweet. The French toast was toasted well and was soft yet slightly crispy on the edges. I would not really wait in line for this though, as it is just regular breakfast and hot chocolate. Perhaps if you really had time and were craving that sort of sweets. The gorgeous display of each delectable dessert presented in each plate made my mouth water. We decided to also eat brunch and ordered my staple of eggs Benedict, the eggs paired well with the avocado and was perfect French breakfast to start the day. The chocolate crepes were amazing, light batter and not heavy. We tried both the hit and cold Famous French chocolate and really enjoyed the cold chocolate as it was a hot day. The interior of the restaurant was everything I imagined but was a bit crowded and loud. Definitely arrive earlier in morning, we were there mid morning. What a beautiful cafe!! As soon as you walk in you're greeted with a small shop and then a set of stairs. The cafe is big and can seat larger parties. They have a wonderful selection of baked goods, breakfast, tea style selection of sandwiches and of course their well known hot chocolate. The day we went it was pretty warm but we still opted for it. The hot chocolate is rich and pairs nicely with a buttery croissant ! I got the omelet with a side of cafe au lait and orange juice. The omelet was so soft and buttery and paired beautifully with the fresh squeezed orange juice. The small side salad was an excellent touch of freshness. I also got to try my friends breakfast sandwich, eggs Benedict and the Mont Blanc. Everything was so delicious. The service was a bit slow so if you're in a time crunch, be sure to order and request for the bill in advance. We also had a chocolate chip cookie that was delicious the pieces of chocolate in the cookie was some of the best chocolate I ever had. The staff is professional and helpful. After a decent wait for a table, we eyed up the menu to pass time and had a good idea of what we anticipated ordering. However, once we were finally seated it took over 20 minutes to get any acknowledgment, welcome, etc. from our server. The place was packed so we gave some grace but once our server finally showed there was no warm welcome, apology for the wait, or anything. Then as we started to placed our order, he rudely scoffed and said the kitchen was probably closed. After taking a look at a clock he said we had a few minutes before it did! Again no apology just grabs them back, reconfirms what it should have been, then off he went to get the right ones. My wife and I knew absolutely nothing about this place but while walking back to our hotel we saw a line outside and decided to get on it because why not. The line didn't take long to get us in and seated so that was cool. Once inside we ordered what is supposed to be their signature offerings which was the hot chocolate and the Mont-blanc. The chocolate was very rich and indulgent and I could only manage to down barely half a cup. The mont-blanc was just as rich and sweet and tasty. We enjoyed the offerings. The service was so-so. They were friendly but a bit stand-off-ish. The prices were a bit high but this is a tourist spot so whatcha gonna do. Would I come here again? Probably not. We arrived soon after they opened on a weekday morning so we didn't have to wait for a table, however the dining room was already pretty full and by the time we left, there was a line outside. The interior is decorated really lovely with (paintings? Chandeliers) Since it's a popular tourist spot, the atmosphere is buzzing though, so don't expect to serenely sip your cocoa. We went all out for the brunch, which comes with two mini croissants, scones, a sweet dish, an egg dish, a hot drink, and a juice. It was definitely a splurge, and for sure a one time thing. Everything tasted great. The standout of the bunch was the caramelized French Toast, which had a perfect sugar crust and an amazing flavor. I liked the pear museli too as a palate cleanser, but it's a pity we couldn't swap it out for a comparably priced option like the crepes. We also got their signature Mont Blanc to try, but honestly we were pretty stuffed and that was overkill. It was nice, but a little too rich after all the other bites. Service was fast. There was a nice shop at the front to pick up gifts or souvenirs, and you get a 10% discount if you dine in. Yes, Angelina is absolutely worth the hype and this is coming from someone who doesn't like chocolate. The hubby and I arrived at 10:30am on a Sunday thinking there'd be an hour wait and were surprised we were seated right away. When we left at 12:30, the line was about 50 people deep. I ordered the Parisian breakfast while the hubby ordered the Angelina and we added the hot chocolate with cream and a Mont Blanc on the side. Highlights: The hot chocolate is extraordinary and nothing I've ever experienced before. It was thick, warm, wasn't overly sweet, and needed the whipped cream to cut through it. The omelette was seasoned perfectly, hot, and tasted great with cheese. The croissants were buttery and great. The baguette was served with butter that was rolled like candy and served with their raspberry, apricot, and honey spreads. The honey was my favorite and I'd ordered a bottle of it. Their coffee is delicious. I ordered a double espresso while the hubby did an americano. Our server provided cream which was whipping cream without sugar and perfect. Pass: The Mont Blanc was gorgeous but not for us. It could've been that we were full but the chestnut cream fell flat. The best thing about that dessert is the pavlova crust which gives it a nice texture. The chocolate croissants were so-so. Stick with the OG. I wanna preface by saying I'm only reviewing pastries and tea. While in Paris I of course had to try the Fannie Angelina's. I was so pleased when I got here. It's so cute but just know the lines are long both to dine in or take pastries to go. That being said I only waited about 5 minutes before I was seated. I had the famous Mont Blanc and the raspberry framboise. I don't remember what tea I had but it was very tasty and refreshing on a hot Paris day. Now I didn't much care for the Mont Blanc. It was good but not my preference and also it was huge. Definitely a shareable. But that raspberry framboise was so amazing. It was sweet, but still some tartness, and had cream and crunch. We arrived at a time there wasn't the typical line up, however, we were seated in the back very close to the kitchen in a very run down section. Service was not great, it took a long time for the server to arrive as did our order. Signature hot chocolate is expensive as we found all menu items. Our server brought us a bill for another table, two hot mocha and a water was more than 35 euro. The bathrooms are a shared space, very sub par, considering the traffic, they are in desperate need of an update and expansion. My overall impression is this is a tourist trap and they couldn't care less, which is too bad. I'm not sure the long wait times and lacklustre service is worth it. You might be better off picking up the hot chocolate from the retail store and doing your own at home. read more

I mean, it was good, but OMG chocolate in Switzerland is just top tier. There is no comparison and it would be rude to ding this place just because the french are unable to compare to the Swiss. I have always dreamed of visiting Angelina in Paris to enjoy their Mont Blanc in the salon. However, when I arrived, there was an unbelievably long line in front of me. Since I didn't have much time, I gave up on visiting the salon and opted to take the Mont Blanc to go instead. The Mont Blanc was incredibly creamy with a lighter texture than I expected, which I really liked. It wasn't too sweet and had a strong chestnut flavor. The generous whipped cream filling paired perfectly with the chestnut cream. I loved it so much that I really wanted to get another one! At the takeout section, I saw a variety of cakes, baked goods, and chocolates, all with fancy and cute designs. I also glanced at the salon, and it looked absolutely gorgeous. The bread that was clearly toasted/grilled was cold, inside was cold, the egg on top was cold. It was late in the day, I was starving, and my choices were: eat a cold egg/ham/cheese sandwich and risk getting sick, complain and risk the waitress or kitchen staff doing something to the food, or report it to the manager after the meal. I was so hungry I decided to just eat it, risk getting sick on vacation, and then tell the manager after the meal. I paid the entire meal, in full, and did not ask for any discount. The waitress disappeared for extended periods, provided surly answers to basic questions. (Q: What kind of vegetables in the "seasonal vegetables"? A: I don't know. It's a surprise.) We finally had to ask another person (her manager?) for additional water. The four of us drank our carafe of water and needed another at the end of the meal. When our waitress brought it - it was yellowish. I wish I had taken a picture. It looked like dishwasher. We asked for a different carafe, she argued saying it was fresh. I asked for a replacement anyhow. She whipped it off the table, returned immediately, slapped a new carafe on the table "There. It's fresh.", spun around, and was gone. When the very pleasant manager arrived, I told him of the cold food, poor service, and told him I would just pay it. He wanted to know more details - saying he was the manager and neededto know, which I provided. However, if he was really this concerned he would have stopped by at any other point before presenti the bill. It was an expensive meal, but again, I knew that going in. We had been in the museum for hours, it was the mid afternoon, and the menu looked promising, if pricy. Absolutely not worth it under any circumstances. read more

This was my first time in Paris but I was traveling with a few friends who had been before and one who actually lived there for some time. They were adamant that we go to Angelina's, and I simply wanted to experience as much as possible. I was not disappointed. The service was fantastic, everyone was kind and patient with us as our French was terrible. There wasn't a thing we had that we didn't like, and honestly I don't know what magic they put in their matcha latte but I have dreams about it. It was absolutely delicious. I need the brand and preparation technique, I haven't had a matcha in LA that compares. It was pretty busy that morning but it still was relatively lowkey and the tea room setting was absolutely perfect. I naturally had to get my French macarons - incredible.
