We wanted a dinner venue where we could catch up over a few cocktails, enjoy a good meal and catch a cricket match. Arriving around 7pm, the place was very quiet; the host said we could sit at whatever table we liked; he expected that it would get a lot busier as the night went on. Being somewhat tired of burgers and chips for dinner, my friend and I both totally loved the food here; everything is exceptional, and the menu has a nice, broad selection; it's easy to find a dish you'll like. Tip: Over and above some outstanding food, they have an excellent selection of locally brewed craft ales - just the ticket to enjoy while watching some cricket ;-)

For me, the $15 steak special is unbeatable, while my partner swears by the haloumi salad. So far everything we've tried on the menu has been well above average and the prices are always fantastic. The selection of beers on tap is impressive indeed. As I am usually designated driver, I stick to the Brisbane Pale Ale, which is by far the tastiest light beer I've sampled. They also have cider on tap. The average price for a pot is $4. On a recent visit my mate could not believe the value for money on offer. The Brewhouse has ample seating out back, along with an outdoor section. I'd avoid the Sports Bar. Service can be a little slow at times, but I'm usually very happy to sit back and relax with my beer. There is a handy car park in the rear. Street parking is almost impossible, unless you don't mind a walk.

The hotel is located right next to Indooroopilly train station, a short walk from the shopping centre. It's a big building, with several bars inside and function areas available. During my brief daytime visit, the service was excellent, the drinks were very affordable, and the meals were well priced and tasty. A great place for a quiet afternoon.

I have been to this place a few times for private functions and for casual drinks and have been satisfied with the place. This place is rather spacious and there are different sections according to your needs. There is a restaurant/ cafe area, a pub area and a function room which can be hired out. The place also offers $10 lunch specials which is always nice for those on a budget. The function room is very large and the place also offers catering. I remember finding the food to be quite nice, nothing special but nice as far as catering food goes. The service has always seemed to be pretty good, the staff are generally pretty polite and are all dressed in clean, respectable attire. This place is nothing too special but it is a nice option if you are looking for a pub or restaurant in Indooroopilly. The function room is also pretty good, it is nice and spacious and good for very large groups.

I returned 9 years later to have lunch with my parents. Although I'm not a footy fan, I quite enjoyed myself. When you walk in, you can turn right into the pokies room and lose yourself in a wash of rainbow, neon machines begging to take your dollars, one by one. Beyond the pokies is the Halfway Cafe, where you'll find a fine pub lunch. My mother and I are suckers for buffet, so we went downstairs and got the smorgasboard ($20 each excluding drinks). The buffet stations are huge. It's the standard soup- salad- vegetables- carved meat- pasta options with some surprising added extras. The cheese kransky is delicious, the spring rolls are more-ish if nothing else, and the grilled octopus salad is succulent and juicy. There is also quite a large assortment of asian cuisine including honey king prawns and sweet and sour pork. The only inconvenience is having to go to the bar and pay for your drinks separately. You've got a wealth of tables to choose from- booths, or window seats, so you can watch the Broncos train while you dine. While you're there, go have a gander at all the old jerseys and trophies. My favourite area is the wall just outside of Alfie's Bar that has old photos of big beefy footballers who were snapped while getting tackled, and getting their junk yoinked up to their armpits. There's some corkers in there, let me tell you. Even if you're not into footy, Broncos Leagues Club isn't a bad place to have a beer or to have a sit down meal. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

It doesn't matter how much chrome and wood you use to try and renovate a pub, it'll still be a pub…read more The Newmarket Hotel would be better off embracing its existence as a typical, suburban Aussie pub instead of trying to be something it's not. It's okay for a pub to be a bit grimy and dingy, in fact, it only makes them seem more authentic. The renovations on the Newmarket Hotel are aiming for contemporary sophistication but the pokies, smell of stale beer, and TVs showing sports give it away. This puts the Newmarket Hotel in the position of no longer being a traditional pub, but not cutting it as anything else either. The food is still pub food, the drinks are still pub drinks, but the place has lost its gritty soul which is what attracts a lot of people to pubs in the first place. Sure, the space looks big, and spacious, and modern, but it feels to manufactured and sterile for a pub. If you're after a nice meal in a classy venue, despite its efforts the Newmarket Hotel won't fulfill your needs. And if you feel like a traditional night at the pub, the Newmarket Hotel can no longer provide that either. Some things are best kept as they were, and the Newmarket Hotel is one of them.

There is a LOT of space here now, with a new restaurant area out the back that has plenty of glass and an open kitchen. Serious money has been spent on this renovation and even though pokies are evident it feels like a comfortable place for a drink or a bite to eat. Lunch specials are a draw card, with most lunch items under $17, however dinner is a bit pricer with $30+ steaks and other mains averaging out at $25. My problem is that it's just not that good. The menu looks great, the pub looks great, but the food is a pretty serious let down. My husband couldn't get a medium rare steak after sending back the first blue one (second one was well done) and I had a duck salad that was pretty crap to be honest. The management needs to really look at their kitchen staff and consider investing a bit of money into getting and keeping good chefs, as a pub that can't cook a steak to order is not winning any favours. It's a real disconnect to visit an establishment that throws oodles of money at the renovation but skimps on the food. It's like opening a beautifully gift wrapped present only to find tea towels. Sure, they're serviceable, but who the hell wants to unwrap something exciting to get something mundane?

(See the Tradie Wednesdays and Fridays... Kids eating free on Thursdays) We had the ever popular Grazier's Steak here the other day (a cut above the rest apparently) and it was really yummy! We would definetely be back. We paid top quid for our steak, I had the rump from $26.95 but you can go up to the mid 30 range for a better cut of meat. It's a decent size, and comes with salad and chips or potato and vegies... you can mix and match up if you want. My only complaint is that if you want more gravy (the mushroom is really nice) it's an extra $2. Come on, you charge premium steak prizes, you can't scoop more gravy for me from that big vat out the back? My steak actually came out well done the first time I ordered it, when I told the waitress I wanted it done medium, she didn't hesitate, took it back and brought me a perfectly done medium steak in less than 15 minutes. And believe me when I say you would much rather spend a Saturday night at the latter. The Caxton Hotel is the highlight of the many bars and restaurants that line Caxton Street. In a testament to its growing legend I've heard it said it was the street that was named after the Hotel, not the other way around. And true enough, if you happen to stop in at the right time on the right night (after any game at Suncorp Stadium is a safe bet) you will be greeted by a vibrant party atmosphere and a vastly diverse group of people all having a great time. At the Cacko young patrons barely of drinking age share bar space with men who look as if they've been there since the establishment opened in 1884. Quality steaks are served with tasty home-made hollandaise sauce and the dress code is relaxed - in the sense that there isn't one. It's worth noting, however, that the Caxton will not be to everybody's taste. The music is often dated and always cheesy and all available wall space is given to large televisions airing sports of every variety. As a result there is a bit of a skewed male to female ratio on most nights. But in the end if you're looking to have a fun night out, hate waiting in lines and don't want to worry about dress codes or the responsible service of alcohol than the Caxton should be your first port of call.
