I traveled down to the Rockaways with my daughter to try out a place I've heard a lot about and always wanted to go . It was a little far for me but parking was easy and it was a nice night out . They have a parking lot but I usually go for the street when I can . As we approach you can hear the music see the locals having fun and it was fairly busy . TV's everywhere ! Every sport you can imagine . My daughter and I shared some apps and had a beer or two and some soft drinks . The pretzel was just ok nothing to really rave about . The chicken quesadillas was really good enjoyed that the flavor was robust . The nachos my daughter mostly ate that's what she wanted most . She said they were good maybe just a little heavy on the cheese ? The service was good she was very nice and checked on us a few times . Noise level is high so not a place for conversation but that's ok it's a sports bar pub type so it was expected. The prices were fair and overall it's a good joint . I imagine a hot summers night and kicking back with some cold beer and some nachos or wings . Good location could be a bit sketchy but the clientele here is def all rockaway and I mean all rockaway ! My husband and I had a nice quiet lunch at Pilot house this past Friday. What a nice setup. TVs at every angle and the restaurant was decorated sentimentality. Very clean as well. Our server was very nice and patient as we looked through the menu. I ordered the passion fruit margarita for my drink and my husband ordered a modelo. As appetizers, we ordered the coconut shrimp and kale Caesar salad. My husband enjoyed the shrimp very much. Well cooked. My kale salad was stunning. Delicious and satiating. A bit too much dressing, but I tossed it around a bit to even it out more. Would simply order again with light dressing. My husband ordered the Pilot house burger (med well) with fries and I got the strip loin steak (med rare) with mashed potatoes and veggies. Both were great dishes. Burger and steak cooked perfectly as ordered. Burger was fully loaded and juicy. The steak came with garlic butter on top which I used for the mash, which extinguished my need for salt. Sooo yummy. Overall a great experience. Will come again to try other dishes on another Friday date lunch. read more

Beautiful Views, But That's About It... The scenery here is absolutely stunning no denying that. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The food was a major letdown: bland, overcooked, and definitely not worth the price. On top of that, the wait times were ridiculous. We waited over an hour for our meals, and even longer for the check. Disappointing experience overall. Come for the view, but eat somewhere else. read more

This place is great. Something for everyone: great food, ample TVs with sports, outdoor seating. Nice addition to this stretch of the beach. Honestly, might be one of my favorites in Rockaway right now. Staff are a little cold but service isn't bad as long as you adjust to a beach time mindset. My main complaint is their drinks. Cocktails are a little watery and the beer/wine selection is meh, but not terrible. read more

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our delicious lunch in this cool bar and grill today while we were in Arverne. Our server, Meredith, went above and beyond today, constantly checking in with us and making sure we were okay. She also knows the Rockaway Beach area very well and not only did she tell us how to get to the Rockaway Bazaar area,but also called them to see when the live music began! The bartender and the other young waitresses and one young waiter were friendly and nice, too. We got to choose where we wanted to sit-either indoors or out on the main level patio or up on the second floor. It was windy so we decided to eat inside on the main floor. The menu selection had a great variety. My boyfriend and I were satisfied with our food choices; I got the chicken finger and French fries basket and he got the loaded nachos. Water pitchers were on our tables but I also enjoyed my Arnold Palmers and my boyfriend enjoyed his red wine. The music was really good and they even have a USMC connection and often throw events for the USMC on their beautiful outside porch located on the second floor! If I could give MINUS ZERO stars, I would. Loud, loud, loud (even with 5 customers, music BLASTS, inside and outside!). Overpriced. Improperly made and poorly balanced (to put it politely) mixed drinks. I honestly don't know how they have stayed in business this long with so few customers on average each week. I also don't know how they've survived without getting shut for noise violations since The City of New York strongly Prohibits and Fines (thousands) Exterior Amplification, which they have in abundance. We enjoyed our visit to the pilot house. The wings and Bavarian pretzel were delicious. I had the roasted garlic chicken. It came with Kale which was by far the most tasty Kale I have ever eaten. The flavor reminded me of roasted marshmallows (sounds odd but true, likely brown sugar caramelized when it was seared). I've now had two bad experiences here, and I will not be back. The first time I came to watch a game, had 2 beers and the buffalo cauliflower, which I was assured was vegan if I left off the blue cheese. Service was good and the food was tasty. On my bill, though, I was overcharged for an extra beer. They said they'd refund it, but it would take a couple days. It took over a week, and me following up to get a refund. No big deal, mistakes happen. The next time I came, I was again told that the cauliflower was vegan if I didn't have the blue cheese. For whatever reason, the sauces both came on the side. I asked again, because I had wanted the buffalo cauliflower (not just dry fried cauliflower) and was told that the buffalo sauce had dairy in it. So I sent it back, decided to skip it and just finish my wine and leave. I was upset that not only did I not get to eat, but that the last time I was there I was misinformed about ingredients, and ended up eating something I'm ethically opposed to. Thank goodness it wasn't an allergy, as their mistake could have done some real harm. The bartenders were not apologetic about the mistake, at all, and then on top of it, they charged me a dollar more for the wine then the price on the menu, saying "the price has changed" and getting defensive. $14 for a glass of mediocre wine, when what I really came in for was food, and a rude attitude to boot? Well to begin with the tables were dirty when we walked in while the who we later found at was manager stood by bar and drank water and yucked it up. Then we waited for water. Waited for the food and the chicken entree would've been good if we didn't have to send it back twice because the Mase's potatoes were cold. I've visited Pilot House Bar & Grill three times. My first experience was a solid 5 stars--everything from the cheesesteak to the service was on point! But by my second and third visits, I noticed a drop in presentation; the cheesesteak didn't look as great, and you can tell from my photos. That said, the taste was still fantastic, and their seasoned fries are a real treat. The staff is attentive and always on top of refills, which I appreciated.
