We spent a week together exploring Durango and the attractions here. One of our favorite experiences was white water rafting with Mountain Waters. The staff was super communicative and helpful. We booked a moderate run with class 1-3 rapids, since we had a big range of ages (my Dad is 77 and we had a party of 10 with ages ranging down to my 10-y-o son). They advised that this would be best for our family, and they were correct. I'd love to come back and do some class 3-4 rapids now that we have had some experience. Our guide Hannah was knowledgeable and very kind. We had a great experience with the team. No complaints at all. Highly recommend.

August 23, 2026 - Gallup, NM…read more We stayed here for an overnight stop and were really impressed. This is a large, clean, well-kept RV park. They do have some long-term residents, but they limit the number, so most of the sites are for short-term stays. The owner is super friendly and welcoming. The gift shop has a surprisingly nice selection of gifts, along with camping essentials. The laundry and showers were clean, and there are two buildings with laundry and showers, which was really convenient since our site was toward the back of the park. We were also near the fenced dog park. The pool was a great way to cool off. They really embrace the USA theme, with a flag painted on the bottom of the pool, a Statue of Liberty, and even a pond shaped like the USA. Active military stay free, which is a nice touch. The rates were reasonable, and we took advantage of pretty much everything the park had to offer. The only thing we missed was the Cowboy Cookout/Texas BBQ. Unfortunately, we arrived on Sunday--the one day they don't offer the BBQ dinner. This was our second stay, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

They also put us in the last row, site 108 so our view is of the Desert scrub, it's very quiet back here. They did offer a barbecue dinner. I will post that menu, but we did not partake as we're trying to finish the food in the camper before we get home. We paid $66 per night for full hook up pull through site. This park is just a few miles from downtown Gallup and there are plenty of little restaurants and art galleries and such. There is also an Anytime Fitness about 5 1/2 miles away that will do a day pass. I did a separate review on that. I noted two different laundry areas and the price is very reasonable at $1.50 for a wash and $.75 for the dry. We did not need to do laundry while here so I cannot come on the effectiveness of the machine I noted that they have refreshed the pool very nicely! As well as I don't recall the water feature being there last time, but they have a cute bear fountain. There is also a dog park in the back corner. Our utilities worked great, staff was friendly, and we will always request a private site.

It was amazing, our tour guide Gayle, was outstanding...so well informed and was able to relate the history and lifestyle on the pueblo. We all enjoyed the visit. I stopped by the Rainbow Forest Museum and Visitor Center first during my visit to the Petrified…read moreForest National Park. This is a cool little museum that features the types of fossils found here, as well as the NPS gift shop and ranger on duty. There are a bunch of brochures available about the human history of this area (ranging from the petroglyphs to the development of the area as a tourist attraction), flora and fauna, and more. The bathrooms are right outside, as well as the Giant Logs Trail. The logs here are indeed giant, with "Old Faithful", at the top of the trail being almost ten feet wide at the base! The pathway is a little confusing and could be marked a little clearer, but I think that is due to the erosion of the area. If you had to only make one stop, make it be this one.

Rainbow Forest Museum and Visitor Center is near the south end of Petrified Forest National Park in…read moreArizona. President Teddy Roosevelt made this area a National Monument in 1906 and then it became a National Park in 1962. There is another visitor center at the north end of the park, but I think this one is way nicer. At this visitor center is a gift shop, bathrooms and an information desk with park rangers on hand to answer questions. There are some paleontological exhibits complete with skeleton displays of prehistoric animals in the museum. You can also obtain a backpacking permit and get your US National Park Passport book stamped here. I enjoyed visiting here and doing the nature trail behind the building. The Giant Logs, Long Logs, and Agate House Trails can all be accessed from outside the visitor center. The largest and most colorful logs in the park is called "Old Faithful" and is on the Giant Logs Trail. I found the employees here to be very nice and helpful.

I was on my way to Santa Fe from Farmington, but I wanted to make a quick stop at least one museums…read morein the area. What surprised me was that they were open early! Considering that I wouldn't have been able to stop if it was the common museum hours like 10 or 11 am open, I was very thankful. Moreover the information they provide within the exhibit in the building (the aerial photos are awesome!), and the great booklet they hand you for the self guided tour through the ruins are excellent. Make sure to have a hat and wear good footwear, as there are no shades and the path down to the ruins are steep. Also don't forget to thank the museum staff, and buy something from the shop to support them!
