I am extremely disappointed with the service from Pinch A Penny -Fernandina. The owner Melody backed into our basketball goal and left the scene without informing us. We had to review the camera footage to find out why our BB goal was leaning. When we addressed the issue with them directly, they were rude and dismissive, showing a complete lack of accountability and NEVER apologized. On top of that, their weekly service has been subpar, with them only doing half the work they're supposed to, but billing us for "storm cleaning" and increasing the monthly rate! To reply to your attempted act to turn the tables (as is your common response) you say I did not call when I have three records of the dates, lengths, and time of day of calls as well as several witnesses that heard our requests. All voices got raised when you finally got back to us (after you said to send the repair estimate and you would take care of it and even sent someone to the house to look at it but then ghosted us) and called us liars and cancelled us while repeatedly denying everything. Customers--- record all conversations, get paper trails, video etc. BUT, they will still deny their wrong doing. This local store has serviced my pool on island for two years and I have nothing but good things to say about them. The pool is always perfectly clean and anytime I need new equipment or old equipment repaired they are right on it and make it extremely easy. I cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

I go to get my pool water tested each week. I have excellent experience with the store and results have been straight on. I am happy with this store. DO NOT USE THIS STORE FOR ANY SERVICES. RECORD ALL COMMUNICATION AND HAVE A WRITTEN TRAIL. We used this store for pool service for only one month. We then needed to have our pool pavers sealed. We had 3 conversations with them telling them to not service our pool the week of the sealing as pavers could not be walked on for 48 hours afterwards. Due to their negligence, they sent someone out anyway and caused $1300 in damage to our pool pavers. They now deny that they ever had any communication with us about this even though we have witnesses to all of the conversations (but nothing in writing--our mistake) They refuse to take responsibility, and now we have to pay for the sealing and the repairs. The owner, Melody, has treated us very unfairly. Her behavior with us had been entirely unethical, unfair, and rude. She was reportedly extremely rude to the paver company, too, when they called to provide details on the damage caused by them. She says we sent a antagonistic email, which is silly. Chat GPT wouldn't let us be mean. We simply asked for her to pay for the damages caused by her company or credit it to pool service. There are many good pool service companies locally. We made the mistake of not checking out the google reviews first. Read on, and you will see that this is common practice. Got talked into 155.00 worth of chemicals on a pool sample. I've used the 4-in-1 tabs of chlorine for 5 years now. Never had a water sample off before. I decided not to go with the recommendation treatment by pinch-a-penny. Pool looks awesome after 5 days. Just a new filter took care of the problem. read more

This is a perfect example of why should look at Yelp reviews this store has 6 reviews and 4 are 1 star. I didn't even think to check on a local owned business, I've learned my lesson. So, 75% of people who took the time to give them a review had a bad experience imagine the amount of people who just said to heck with it I just won't go back there. My wife called the company as they asked, and they told us that since we used the equipment, they won't honor a refund, when my wife asked how would I know how this works the Manager Melody told my wife she should have done more research. So, you'd think the people who own pool chemical and equipment franchise would say the Volt FX2 is for spas only and not a pool. We've been customers for a while and drive more than 20 minutes to give them business. We would have loved to exchange the Volt for something that works but, pinch a Penny would rather jump over a dollar to grab a dime. We won't be back and if you live in the Kingsland St Marys area Ace Hardware sells chlorine, salt, and all your other pool supplies at basically the same price or less. We just never thought to consider them. Thanks, pinch a penny you cut out close to an hour of my drive time since I won't be getting hoodwinked by your store, and I really get to shop local with people who want to help. Oh, and if you think calling their corporate office don't bother, they just say each location is independently owned and operated. If there was a minus for customer service I would give it. We purchased a pool heater/chiller and it's not worked since day one. After they installed they want to come back and "charge" us for a service visit. It was NOT working when they installed it! Since my husband works out of town I have called to try to get something done and I was told they'd rather talked to my husband since A MAN understood technical stuff more than a woman!! He was on a job in another state and could not talk to her. I asked again to talk to me about it and she refused. "Like I said Mrs Simpson I'd rather talk to a man". Doesn't even deserve one star. Customer Service SUCKS. I've given this place so many chances because it's close. But when I needed a filter they wouldn't even talk to me once I said I didn't have one with me (I had the part number). I needed a capacitor for my pump and it was $80 and not even the right thing ( found the right one online for $8.25). Called to see if they could order a control panel and they straight up said "we don't stock parts, we would need to order it, so you're better off calling somebody else". Anywhere else would have to order it too! Only thing this place seems to have is overpriced pool toys, and a snooty attitude. read more

Beware of their onsite services. I cant remember the last poor review I have written about Any business (yes, Evolve Vacation Rentals). I generally will suck it up and move on. I debated writing this however I would hate to be the next person to get taken like I did. So, this review is for you, whomever you may be. They sent a tech to our home to clean a moderately Green pool we had just purchased and charged over $500 for clearing the pool and algae. They Never cleared the algae. They claimed it was staining on the pool.....scraped with a brush it comes off in green clouds..... Then, they charged $140 a month to service the pool and did not show up to clean the pool (we are absentee owners). I showed up to check some work on the house and found the pool a mess and it was green still, not back washed with debris all over the bottom. They claimed leaves were construction material from our home....or, at least that is what their tech told them. I sent the attached pics to the owner and requested my money back. The owner chose to debate the condition of the pool (SEE PICS) and then said they had "delivered" what had been promised. These were taken two days ago, after $500 plus $140 for servicing (which clearly did not occur) Nice people in person.... don't fall for it. Their service onsite is DEPLORABLE. Even the timer I had them replace initially, is FALLING OFF the mount they screwed it to. I am glad others had a decent experience. Mine was one of The worst I have have ever had with a supplier - So bad in fact, I actually took my time to write this. read more

We have been using Pinch A Penny for almost a year and a half and we love these guys. This is our first pool so we didn't really know how to maintain it. The previous owners used them and we decided to stay with them when we purchased the house. What a great group of people. They have gone above and beyond and when we decided our pool needed a heater we didn't think twice about purchasing from them. Everything has been great! He has major health problems, new pacemaker, diabetic, stroke, heart attach survivor, blind in one eye ect..she was waiting on him when he got out and completely embarrassed him. I've had a great experience with this company. I was a bit scared at first not knowing them but I have been pleasantly surprised. The shop workers are extremely kind (even texting me possible stain solutions after hours) and hard working and my pool technician is very knowledgeable and personable. I like them a lot. Unfortunately I can't give it zero stars, total SCAM artists. Beware bait and switch they make promises but don't deliver. I'm a firm believer in "shop local" that is why I went to them for a pool heater-but when you don't deliver what you promise and have no resolve to make a customer happy you don't deserve to be a "shop local" place anymore. Everything they sell is overpriced-just buy what you need online-this place is a scam. Pumps, heaters and parts all available online for half the price you will pay here. They said they would install the heat pump I bought from them NEVER did they advise an electrician would be need to finish the install. They charge $100+hr for labor and then double the prices of the parts you need to install and then "CAN'T'" complete the job-yes you CAN get an electrician to finish what you promised to do! Now adding an electrician to finish will be another $700-now that is horrible as well but when you say install for "$500" when in reality it will cost you more than double that-that is a scam! Purchased a Hayward pool pump from Pinch A Penny in Yulee, a year after use it failed. Was told I had to go to Hayward. After much fighting with Hayward they agreed to replace the motor only, I had to pay PAP to put the motor and pump together. Now a year later the motor has failed again. Knowing the fight I had with Hayward, I decided to go to PAP and pay to have them repair the motor. They took it in then called 2 days later to say because it was used on an above ground pool they could not repair it as they do not work on above ground pools. I informed the manager that I bought the pump from them and agreed to pay for the repairs, she refused and said they do not work on above ground equipment period. Had the same pump been used on an in ground pool they would have gladly repaired the motor. This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Having gone to PAP and received their response, I decided to give Hayward another try......just as I thought, they said not and to go to PAP for my issues. How disappointing that PAP sells equipment that aren't even prepared to support. So frustrated and disappointed in PAP and Hayward and would not recommend them to anyone who has an above ground pool. read more
