The new dentist(s) may be worthy of five stars also but I don't think it's fair that they "inherit" Dr. Ortiz's ratings. They should be required to start from scratch. I'll start by saying I don't tend to frequent anything other than privately owned and operated dental offices. Big corporations usually rotate dentists in and out so you can never develop a relationship with them. I knew Dr. Ortiz had sold his practice but was still working at Smile Design. However, They did not forewarn me prior to my last appointment approximately 6 months ago that Dr. Ortiz was no longer there and I'd be seeing someone new. The whole staff with the exception of 1 person is new. Consistency is what I absolutely LOVED about Center for Smiles. The staff never changed, they all knew you by name, and the atmosphere was like a family. The new staff couldn't even add up my total charge correctly. The receipt showed $86 but she charged my FSA card $88 & it took weeks to resolve getting that $2 put back (because you know an FSA don't play...they need to verify down to the last penny!) Ugh, I hate when a provider who was absolutely perfect either relocates or retires. Anyone have a dentist they love that you want to recommend??

Watch for hidden fees with this office - they will charge you for additional services and "tools"…read morethat are not covered by insurance. These additions are approximately $200 total (in addition to your insurance copay) with little to no explanation beforehand. When asked upon insurance settlement you will told "it was in the paperwork you signed". I have called around to other Endodontics offices for similar follow up service, and there are no additional fees - everything serviced is covered by insurance.

Root canals are the kinds of things you try to forget about as soon as they are over - which is…read morewhat I tried to do after my first one. When I, unfortunately, needed one on a different tooth years later I went to a new endodontist = Dr. Mason at Westchase Endodontics. Because it was my 2nd root canal, I thought I knew what to expect - but this time was completely different than my first experience (in a good way). The office is spotless, the staff was very nice, and they have me detailed directions to find the office as it is located within a complex of similar looking buildings. What really blew my mind what how different the actual root canal was. Dr. Mason's dental assistant did the initial x-rays, then he came in for an exam. Before I knew it he was numbing me and started the procedure. I was shocked that it was over so quickly - and painlessly! I got in my car and called my husband to tell him how I couldn't believe how great I felt afterward (not perfect, but not in pain like in the past). I was waiting for the pain to hit me when I got home and the numbing medicine wore off - but it wasn't that bad. I took a few Advil, put some ice on my cheek for a while, and was fine. By the next day, I could hardly tell that I had a root canal the day before. It feels weird to say that I had a "good" experience with a root canal but I'm not sure how else to describe it. It was a world of difference from my first one, and I would never go to a different endodontist for a root canal! Dr. Mason's rates were not just competitive, they were about half the price of the last root canal I had done (and the other quotes I had obtained). We had the same dental insurance both times with the same coverage level, so the low price was because of Dr. Mason's rates. To top it off, a few months later I actually got a check in the mail refunding part of my fee!!! Seriously! After processing my dental insurance they were reimbursed more than anticipated by the company and refunded me the difference - amazing! When my husband needed an emergency root canal I made sure he went to Dr. Mason, and he had the same type of experience I did (so my experience wasn't unusual). Both times when I had to book appointments with Dr. Mason, they were able to get me in by the next day - which is great when you are in pain. I cannot recommend Dr. Mason and Westchase Endodontics enough. Hopefully, you will never need their services, but if you do find yourself needing a root canal in the future, make sure you try Dr. Mason first.
