For $15 I think it is an affordable excursion, there are a few rooms to do crafts/color and four open exhibits to play and learn in. The staff was kind and the museum was relatively clean for what it's worth. The one thing that really rubbed me the wrong way was the "nursing room" aka the bathroom. There is a pink plastic dirty chair in the corner of the bathroom and they call that a "nursing room". For a place geared towards children this is disheartening to see. They should either have an actual room, separate from the bathroom, or no dedicated space at all.

Pros: - My daughter loved the Arts & Crafts, Pirate Ship Playground, Space Floor, Make-Your-Avatar and Horseshoe Crabstations. - Affordable at $14 per person. Cons: - No Wi-Fi, most of the space has little to no T-Mobile Data. My husband paid to work inside the Cafe but left because there was no WiFi. When I asked for a refund the receptionist gave me a hard time :( - Gift Shop and Cafe are basic/minimal and could be a LOT better - The Bias exhibit, which took up a lot of space, was boring and un-engaging - The fish tank was dirty and smelly, felt bad for the fish - Overall the decor and finishes feel outdated, could use a technology update!

You'll find a general store, carpentry and pattern making shop, a blacksmith shop, bakery, boarding houses, a blast furnace, a church....and more. Inside these buildings are a volunteer staff demonstrating the skills of the trades. What made my experience amazing is the ability to converse with the staff, dressed in appropriate time period clothes, as they explained the historic craft demonstrations and history of the village. The village is non-profit and is able to stay opened by donations and volunteers. Other various events such as weddings and fairs help keep the village opened. My visit was during the 4th Annual BBQ and Brew. On site we're numerous food truck serving up BBQ. For those who aren't into BBQ, there were food trucks serving up sweet treats and sausage & peppers. Alcoholic beverages (beer) were behind a gated area where everyone is carded before admittence. Once inside, tickets at $6 a piece are purchased for redemtion of a drink of whatever you want. In addition to the BBQ and Brews, various vendors were on site selling their unique crafts and a live band was providing the tunes. It was a fun time experiencing and learning about the village. The BBQ and brews were an extra bonus. A big shout out to Yelp CM Katarina for the Yelp give away.

Flemington, NJ - self-billed as the "world's largest miniature wonderland & train museum," the…read moresheer scale of this model railroad exhibit is immense and impressive. Although I'm not a model railroad enthusiast, I do love miniatures, and the details and craftsmanship of this entire enterprise are absolutely incredible and a sight to behold. We've driven by this imposing & austere white building off of Route 202 many times and I've always wondered about it - is it a defunct bank? A religious headquarters? A sanitarium? Well turns out, it was constructed specifically to house the growing railroad model which its creator, Bruce Zaccagnino, started building in the 1970s and worked on over the next 2.5 decades. Despite the size of the building, I didn't think the display would be that big, but the rooms just seemed to wind on forever, and it was interesting to see the scenes from different perspectives as you worked through the levels. There are over 100 trains running on seven miles of tracks! There was so much to see and I had fun studying the intricate details and playing "I spy" with my kiddo. If you're into trains, this attraction is obviously a can't-miss, but my family including our toddler loved it. It's an awesome place to take kids. There are a few raised steps in various rooms for younger kids to step on, but they really ought to install more throughout the complex so kids that aren't tall enough can see the installations better. About 3/4 of the way through, there is a kids play zone area, with lots of seats to take a break. Toward the end of the tour is where you enter the bizarro world of kitschy and creepy dolls (and I say this as a fond devotee of creepy/old dolls...so it's right up my alley and really stirred my goth sensibilities). There are also some organs lying around - the keyboard kind, not the human kind. The outdoor train ride seems cool and we really wanted to ride it but it wasn't operating when we went earlier in the year. Hope it's up and running now. There is a nice and large gift shop with a room off to the side that sells vintage train parts and accessories, in addition to regular toys, gifts and branded merchandise. The whole work is a marvel and I recommend a visit! I'd like to see it again and we will come back when my child is a little older and can take it all in with more understanding and appreciation.

If this facility is not going to run a slew of trains, they should shut their door and stop taking fees from people. Such a disappointment.

Everyone crowds around the outside of the train until the conductor waves the golden ticket in his hand and invites everyone on board. We chose the slightly more expensive tickets that are meant to be more performers and less seats (I think?) We were in car number four. All the employees do a great job of staying in character. They're all very talented themselves, singing and dancing throughout the entire ride. Everything seemed to be really well choreographed and well planned. Even quieter parts of the train ride were entertaining. Our daughter is only one year old, but she really enjoyed herself. She loved meeting Santa. Don't bring a stroller on board, there's nowhere to put it. Definitely recommend, especially for children between three and five years old!

Adults less so, but parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents will experience secondary joy from watching the little ones become enveloped by this immersive show. The train ride itself is a short back-and-forth ride on a single track with all the windows covered with wintry decals. But no one would think to complain about the lack of a view because the show makes the whole thing worthwhile. A well-trained cast brings the old picture book to life, complete with live songs, snacks (warm cocoa and shortbread cookies), props (that double as keepsakes), and a visit from Santa. The actors and actresses deserve their own paragraph of laudation. The Polar Express employs an entire cast for each train car (including some that I assumed were shared between train cars), and they're incredible. Not only were they high-energy and perfectly timed with the different acts of the show, but they were WONDERFUL with their interactions with everyone in the car, especially children and babies. In my opinion, they're the backbone of the magic that is the Polar Express train ride experience. Online reservations are a must, and be aware that these tickets seem to sell out fast. We booked our tickets in mid-October and were surprised to see so many seats already booked. Tickets reserve specific seats on specific cars, which makes the process of finding seats on the day of seamless and well-organized. Family pajamas are de rigueur and add to the festive atmosphere of the day. The last thing I'll add - a warning really - is to CHECK YOUR GPS closely on the day of your visit to make sure you're headed to the Whippany location. The address is a common one, and a lot of us were accidentally routed to the wrong address. Judging from the fact that this same reminder is printed in bold and underlined text at the bottom of our confirmation page, it seems this is a common error.
