Silverball is acclaimed for its unique pinball collection but I veer more to video games, especially Super Breakout. An offseason weekday in Asbury Park means hotels aren't $400 but the boardwalk is also a bit too quiet at that time, so I'm thankful that Silverball helps create a sense of place year-round. (For my financial news nerds, Silverball's current rating average is 4.6 and there should be an "adjusted EPS"-type number that excludes any negative reviews about the food. I have nothing bad, or good, to say about Silverball's cuisine having never tried it but I assure you there's fine fare within the designated Asbury Park/Ocean Grove/Neptune/Bradley Beach Designated Metropolitan Area.)

John F. Peto (1854-1907) was raised in Philadelphia, where he studied and exhibited art. He…read morespecialized in still-life trompe l'oeil ("fool the eye") paintings of ordinary objects. Near Toms River, NJ, a Methodist Camp Meeting Association was established in Island Heights in 1879. Peto's aunts would stay there during the summer. Peto visited them and played cornet in the local band. Peto married and decided to settle with his wife Christine in Island Heights in 1889, building a home and studio at 102 Cedar Avenue. His only child, daughter Helen, was born in 1893. He continued to paint, working in relative obscurity, until dying at age 54 of kidney disease. Then, his wife, daughter, and eventually granddaughter ran the house as a bed and breakfast. The house fell into a state of disrepair. However, a beautiful restoration of the house, studio, and gardens was completed in 2011. It is open to the public Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4 pm. The admission is $10. for adults, which is really a small donation to maintain this historic artist's house. A volunteer docent takes visitors through the house. Our guide, Harry, was excellent: very knowledgeable about the house, Peto, the community, and art in general. The house features artwork by Peto, original palettes, historic photographs, period furniture, and artifacts original to the house. While touring the rooms, one gets to see a special exhibition (eg. summer 2017 watercolors and oils by Grabach and Gasser, underappreciated realist painters from Newark both of whom died in 1981). The tour ends in the studio, the heart of this home. Then, one may view a video about Peto and this house. The gardens are lovely too and there are music programs scheduled there during the summer. Check their website for changing exhibitions and programs. This place is a treat. GO!

This aquarium continues to improve every time I visit…read more There are so many large tanks to look at. They have both saltwater and freshwater species. The second floor has monkeys and parrots. There are also penguins. You can go in and out as many times as you want each day with a stamp. One note of advice: if you go during the summer months, try to go after 12 noon. There were many camp kids when I arrived at around 10:30.

It was our first time visiting, and it's such a cute place to spend the day. The aquarium itself was nice, but it was much smaller than I expected. I had read online that most people spend 1-2 hours there, but we were able to see everything in about 45 minutes. Because of its size, I wouldn't recommend making a special trip just for the aquarium. However, if you're already planning to spend the day on the boardwalk or enjoy the other attractions, it's a worthwhile stop. One thing I really appreciated was that they allow re-entry. We were able to leave, grab something to eat, and come back in time to watch the shark feeding, which was a nice perk. Overall, it's a pleasant little aquarium, but I expected more.

The medium is reasonably price and hats off to April who was kind and explained how to make this the best experience. We definitely recommend this while in New York.

We spent a nice, chilly afternoon at this spot and the kids loved it. There were so many interactive elements and we all loved the confetti room. You're also given a QR code where you can scan it and get copies at the end (after purchasing them). The location in Soho is fun, with so many great shops and restaurants nearby. The hit of the place was the ball pool at the end (again, similar to the sprinkle pool at the Museum of Ice Cream). My kids spent hours here. The ball pool kindof smelled like poop. Not gonna lie, it was definitely a stinky spot. There was a sign nearby that explained the balls were disinfected by some type of filtration system. Okay! Regardless of the poop smell, we all had a great time! And used lots of hand sanitizer afterwards.
