Pine Island nursery is a great place for those wanting to buy wholesale tropical fruit trees. On the retail side, I didn't get the experience that I was expecting. The staff were helpful but you knew they really didn't want to deal with somebone buying one or two items. We took a brief tour on the golf cart and I picked out a Sweetheart Lychee and a Barbados Cherry. Each time I was going to buy, I was pointed to the ugly ducklings, not the nicer trees that were shown at first. Determined to purchase something after driving an hour and wanting to support them, I bought the trees anyway. I've done enough gardening to know when a nursery is trying to sell you their 2nd rate stock The staff member carefully loaded the trees into my car. The office was small but efficient. My friend tried to make small talk. I was looking to leave. I paid in cash and we were on our way. In the future, I would buy from other nurseries that are willing to sell me better quality product. Members of my family have a large business up north that buys wholesale plants and trees from Homestead. I guess you have to be in the business. read more

My husband and I finnally visited the Pine Island Nursery, and it was worth the wait. We went in for two particular trees and left with a total of five. Rosaria was very helpful and knowledgeable. We're already looking to come back. You must drop by they have a huge selection of fruit trees and the priceare great as well. read more

Absolutely spectacular experience! I had an amazing day here today I came to pick an avocado tree for a property I own in Fort Lauderdale and it was well worth the hour drive! The 50 acre farm is like visiting a botanical garden. One of the staff drove us around in a golf cart and tirelessly explained the varieties to me even though I must have seemed like a total city idiot mixing things up over and over... I ended up purchasing a " bacon avocado" ten lemongrass bushes and a fig tree. I'll be back for a mango tree for sure We also had a nice picnic under a thatched roof they have Highly recommend this place!!! read more

The "Established by Mom in 1972" sign sums up the feeling the sisters (not related to the owners) exude. Pine island Nursery is pristine, manicured & precious for a commercial working farm. The ladies were extremely knowledgeable, gracious & caring, sharing their knowledge (& concerned about our comfort on this drizzly day). The facilities are spotless & well maintained...so excited they had a small Monroe (3 gal, $35) variety tree we were seeking & happy getting up-sold on adding an Oro Negro tree (7 gal, $70). Not to mention, on the fruit stand table I bought 4 Oro Negro avocados themselves to eat in a few days! read more

I had so many questions about the plant and tree I was going to purchase. A tree is a serious commitment, so I wanted to make 100% sure I was getting the right tree for the space. I sent numerous emails. They were so patient and answered all my questions promptly. The Dragon Fruit and the Brogdon Avocado came Fedex and in excellant condition. It was a great experience and they have a really useful, helpful website too with lots of information. 6/12/2021 Today is Saturday I drove to Pine Inland nursery I arrived at 9:06 am .I was greeted by a Gentleman by the name of Eduardo I explained I had brought last year two threes one Glenn Mango tree and the other a Star fruit tree. My star fruit is beautiful and baring fruit the other is Mango tree is drying out it was not cheap at $90 dollars .Eduardo made up every excuse why the tree is not making it but stated there is no refunds or exchanges. Red flag . When I told him about writing a review he told me I can do what I want. I asked to speak to the owner which he pointed out was Heather but he told me she wasn't there and that he wish he wasn't either. Its clear he is not looking out for the business. Very Sad to see this happen. The owners should pick people who care about the business and not just there for the pay check. As for me I will never buy from them again or recommend anyone either. I've gone here about 4 times. I bought a mango tree and ended up dying from fungus. However I bought another one and planted it seems to be doing good. I also have the Barbados cherry tree and a banana tree. The workers are very nice. read more

The best customer service I've seen in Miami. The nursery has a wide variety of tropical trees and plants. The employee took us by golf cart around the nursery and showed us the mango trees that we had a interest in. She explained what to look for and details on the different mango trees . We inquired about other fruit trees (guava, mulberry, peaches, papaya, dragon, carabalo (star fruit) and many more, and she was extremely knowledgeable about the other plants and trees, she picked different fruit from trees for us to sample. They have an excellent selection of all the exotic fruit you can grow in Southern Florida. Very nice and polite smiling staff who take time to advise how to keep your trees alive and producing. I was tempted to cut down two lychee trees after no flowers two years in a row here in Miami. They explained that the lychees need a cold shock and that some ice placed around the base in January will do the trick. The Mango grafting video by Erik on their website was very helpful. Very good nursery. I bought all my trees from them (over 15) and they are all healthy and beautiful. They are more if a wholesale farm but do also sell fruits from their farm when available and you can get from good cultivars. Nice nursery, I hope the never go wholesale only. read more

Prettiest nursery ever. Nice and clean. You have to get in a cart to be taken to where the plant is that's how big this place is. If you email them they actually answer your emails. I will be back at the end of the year to get another cactus. read more

I wish I had a good experience with this grower, after all they do have a very broad variety. However they seem to treat retail customers as pests, more than customers. If they don't like retail, they should not promote themselves as a retail nursery. When you make a long drive to their location and then are met with that pompous brat Eric (who calls himself the President-ha!), who could hardly be bothered to answer our questions, it can kind of ruin your afternoon. Actually, I should correct that, you are not "met" by anyone, you just kind of try to catch anyone's attention, and perhaps someone will take a moment to half respond your question without making eye contact. I do not make this critique out of spite, I actually gave them a try a couple of times, thinking that maybe they were just busy the first time, but I have found them to be the same in person, on the phone and at a couple of events where they have set up a booth. I just don't get why they seem to be so involved in a business they seem to hate. read more

I drove 2400 miles with a penske truck with high expectations of my first visit. I was 110% completely satisfied. Great selection at below average prices. Healty plants. Tropical fruit to sample. Extremely patient and knowledgable employees. You people in Florida dont know how lucky you are to have probably the best tropical fruit tree nursery in the country right in your backyard. Take advantage of that and go visit them. DO NOT buy beaten up double priced junk at the box stores. You can buy right at the source. lots of variety, very informative website, friendly staff, but I've learned to call ahead if you are driving from far away in search of specific varieties in their catalog. they are primarily a wholesale type operation and plants don't stick around for long. you can typically find their fruit trees at home depot or lowes stores but to gain access to all they have you have to either order it and have it shipped or like me, drive from an hour away to see them . today I drove there for a jujube and macadamia nut tree and they were all sold out of both. : ( read more

I paid $75 for a mail-order atemoya and expected a 3-4 foot well-developed plant -- like the twenty other trees I've ordered through various other nurseries. Pine Castle sent me a 1 foot newly grafted midget. I emailed them and got a prompt reply that I shouldn't worry since the tree was 'a very vigorous grower.' I should have asked for a refund but the plant was in the ground, and my other trees are doing well so I acquiesced. About two months later, absolutely no growth. I called again and was told that it was likely entering dormancy and would sprout out in March. I waited till April and no growth. It is now June and the plant has three little leaves on it -- almost zero growth. I left about four emails over the last couple months with no return replies. I recently removed the Pine Castle plant with another one from a different nursery -- same price and about 3 feet taller. I understand that occasionally grafts go bad, but most nurseries wait till the graft has taken before shipping out. Pine Castle seems more concerned about getting my dollar then brushing me off than operating a fair and reputable business. I'll never do business with them again. So far the best mail order nursery for tropicals, in my opinion, is the 'tropical nurseries' guy on EBay. Ordered about twenty five plus trees and all were excellent. They are based in Ft. Lauderdale I believe. read more
