I feel bad...I feed bad it has taken me so long to shop at this lovely local market!!!…read more I have been a faithful social media follower, particularly during the pandemic years, I was curious to see how local businesses were evolving and keeping an eye on any that might need extra support during the difficult times. They seemed to be doing very well, so I just kept a close eye and watched them build and grow their business to meet the customer needs for local meat and vegetables....and as of the last year or so they have added so many ready made meals, and baked goods and desserts!!! I have been back twice in the past month or so and each time have stocked up on treats for special occassions. We loved the Quiche - very high quality and the taste was buttery and cheesey and eggey - LOVE! I have tried and thoroughly enjoyed their house made, english muffins, muffins, cookies, brownies and fruit bread slices. So so good. They accept cash and credit. They have a great staff/team of workers...they are friendly, and fun. The cat Darla - she was a hit with everyone that was with me...she is the perfect mix of sweet and spicy...don't pet her too long, she will hit you with her little mitten paws. She will rub up against your legs and allow you to provide a few pets...she will reach up with her paws/claws if you stop petting too soon. LOL There is so much that I love about this business.. They have LOCAL vendors that represent most farmer's market categories: fruits, vegetables, flowers, milk, cheese, eggs, meats AND, there are things like breads, cakes, cookies, pies, pasta, empanadas. I have also seen, masks and other hand sewn items. My favorite vendor is SPUN Baking. I always run to his booth first - Cinnamon Rolls, Scones, Jams, Babka- You can also order special things in advance of the market - check out his website. Parking can be a challenge as it is shared with the town, police and nearby sports fields. Luckily people don't tend to hang out too long because the market isn't too big. Most vendors accept credit cards.

I always feel like I need to make a few laps around the whole thing just to figure out who has what and at what price. I actually feel like the older I get the less choices I need, and that's why I like the Cumberland Farmers' Market. It's small. (Actually, Joanna R said it best, "It's a Goldilocks market. Not too big, not too small, but just right.") On Saturdays, it's hosted in the back half of the town hall's parking lot on Tuttle Rd, and there are maybe a dozen or so vendors selling the essentials. It can get busy VERY quickly (i.e. they're open from 10a to 1p; expect it to be crowded by 10:05am). But customers turnover fairly quickly so parking shouldn't be as big of an issue as it may initially seem (because people come here to actually shop and not just come here to be seen shopping; does that make sense?). I don't usually go to farmers' markets with a specific shopping list; I know everything is local and seasonal and can change in a moment's notice because of weather affecting crops. I just let myself be surprised at what goodies are available then in the moment!

They do so in a proud and humble manner. Very down to earth people here that work very hard to bring you the amazing selection. Some of my favorites are SPUN, Tir na nOg Farm, Cranberry Rock and Winslow Farm. I find the prices to be competitive and where it might be a little more expensive than a bigger shopping venue, I remember that this is going directly back to the local economy. The few times I have gone, there has been music, the kids seems to enjoy it as with some adults. It add to the nice background, it's not too loud or distracting. I LOVE the location. Conveniently located with plenty of parking. And because the market isn't too big, people aren't there for very long, so the parking spaces free up fast. If you are in the area, I would highly recommend visiting this location at least once.

Every vendor we walked by, said hello and seemed warm and friendly. The area was set up near the main walkway, which was nice - very tidy and organized. There were a lot of different patrons, young and old and everyone seemed so happy and engaged with the vendors. I can't believe it's taken me YEARS to finally visit. I will definitely return, if I can get out of work in time. That's the only downside, they are only set up until 6pm on Thursdays.

They do have parking in the back. I didn't see the sign for that from the street, but I was able to find street parking just past the market place. As I was leaving I saw the clam mascot, and I had to get a picture! I can't wait for the Yarmouth Clam Festival, it's literally the reason why I came to Maine from Austin, Texas.

Primarily, because it was closer to me vs. the 1.5 I was driving....and the Staff! Sooo nice Here is what actually got me to stop, the LAWN SIGNS, a row of them telling me what they have. They had me at Baked Good :) Well, there was another thing that peaked my interest that even got me to pay attention to the lawn signs, the apples - I picked up a bag of their apples at Bow Street Market and was blown away by the quality and I had never tried Red Gravenstein before. It's a delicious snacking apple. This apple is just slightly tart and a medium tenderness, not too crisp or too soft. It is just the right size, that I have never throw away anything but the seeds and stem. I think they had a least a half dozen varieties of apples. The staff will happily recommend types to you as well, depending on what you want to do with them. They will also share their personal opinion if you ask. Not just apples...I didn't have time to look around too much, BUT, I did see....apple cider donuts, that were FRESH ....still warm! They were soft with a slightly crisp exterior. Soooo good. We bought 6! They also have a cooler with pub cheese! If you didn't know, cheese and apples actually are a tasty combo. There is also a table near the register that displays locally made whoopie pies - the traditional Maine variety. More YUMMY! I highly recommend this cute location.

It's been a decade plus since my original review, so I thought I'd update it!…read more Since then the PFM on Wednesdays is now *also* located in the picturesque (and much easier to park in) Deering Oaks from mid April to late November, 7am to 1pm (while the winter market takes place only on Saturdays inside on Stevens Ave from early December to early April, 9am to 1pm). From the Portland Farmers Market: " Featuring over 30+ Maine farmers. From artichokes to zucchini, if you can grow it here, you'll probably find it IN season and fresh! Also eggs, meat, cheese, milk, ferments, flowers, fibers, honey, and more! Farm products exclusively." Yes, it is all things local in beautiful abundance! I like that many of the vendors are the same from Saturday to Wednesday; but there's just something slightly more lowkey about the Wednesday market. It's a smaller crowd, a more relaxed vibe, the vendors are unhurried and have more space to chat, and it seems like more locals are intentionally out to shop/support their local farmer. I usually know exactly what I want when I come here, but it's nice to be able to slow down and take time to really look around without being bumped into/having to worry about something selling out.

Cute tiny tomatoes…read moreand big juicy ones of different colors and varieties; eggplants; cabbage; garlic and shallots, and something called torpedo onions; tons of peppers, both to eat raw in salads and cook with (check out those purple ones!); super-fresh summer corn; herbs and flowers; dill pickles. I also snagged some blueberries and radish microgreens. I'll be eating verrrryyyyy well for the next several days, that's for sure. While you'll find a larger selection at the bigger Saturday market, when it's peak produce season like it is now the tables will be overflowing with goodness on Wednesdays, too. And it's just a bit mellower, and always easy to find a place to park. All of the vendors are happy to talk with you about what they're selling and I enjoy that as much as everything I bring home! Practicalities: bring cash, because even though several vendors do take cards, not all of them do and there's usually a $10 minimum. Plus, cash enables you to spend a few bucks at several different tables if you want to (I mean, why not try a tomato or two from each?). And bring your tote bags to load up, to save on having to use any plastic or paper (which most vendors do have in some form). Most of all, just enjoy strolling through the park and seeing all the bounty on offer, and know you're supporting Maine farmers by buying local.

I have bought a lot of their things from some of these farms from different supermarkets and their farms and they weren't as much money.. I really don't know how people can avoid some stuff in here.

They have a fairly nice vegetable selection; however, it is not the best. We were able to buy a stalk of brussel sprouts which I thought was really cool. And there was a neat bakery stand that we didn't really investigate too much. However, it was pretty small and fairly close together (by COVID standards). Definitely still worth it to stop by if you're in town on a Wednesday!
