Anyways, numerous vendors gather in the field owned my Crystal Farms to sell their veggies, fruits, meats, frozen meals, breads, mushrooms, seasonings, yogurts, pastries, flowers, and items handmade by a seamstress. While you meander among the tents you can listen to fiddlers or singers while sipping coffee from a local coffee truck. Just make sure to grab a scone or cookie to nibble on with it to complete the experience. There is also a flower garden across the street that you can walk over to admire.

The line up is an eclectic mix of Maine products and vendors. Whether you need a sweater (or her lamb), specialty vinegars (and recipes), or any other delicious housewarming or holiday present, the market offers a diverse array of products besides the organic produce and other goodies. We like providing them to our VRBO guests too. We do wish they would move Hootenanny's Bread to the south end of the market near Dharma Farms and Kelly Bros beef-- it would reduce the congestion from the long lines and make the "main street" of the market more enjoyable. The market moves indoors with fewer vendors in November-- being in the historic freight shed is a little more crowded but also cozy as the winter months progress. And our freezer is never without a Mainely Poultry pot pie or two, some haddock "burgers", or a Chase Farms apple pie. It's our kids (and their kids) favorite activity when they visit.

Every vendor there had people in front of their stands and hearing them all engage in conversation about their business was so nice. There is such a human element to this market. Felt more people focus than business focused. The grounds were clean and each vendor was placed within a reasonable distance. Didn't have to walk too far to the next and you didn't feel like you were on top of people either. Parking can be a challenge if you can't walk far, especially with the main street construction happening near Bull Moose/Tontine Mall (September 2025). But if you can find parking and you enjoy farmers markets, I would highly recommend this market.

It's been a decade plus since my original review, so I thought I'd update it!…read more Since then the PFM on Wednesdays is now *also* located in the picturesque (and much easier to park in) Deering Oaks from mid April to late November, 7am to 1pm (while the winter market takes place only on Saturdays inside on Stevens Ave from early December to early April, 9am to 1pm). From the Portland Farmers Market: " Featuring over 30+ Maine farmers. From artichokes to zucchini, if you can grow it here, you'll probably find it IN season and fresh! Also eggs, meat, cheese, milk, ferments, flowers, fibers, honey, and more! Farm products exclusively." Yes, it is all things local in beautiful abundance! I like that many of the vendors are the same from Saturday to Wednesday; but there's just something slightly more lowkey about the Wednesday market. It's a smaller crowd, a more relaxed vibe, the vendors are unhurried and have more space to chat, and it seems like more locals are intentionally out to shop/support their local farmer. I usually know exactly what I want when I come here, but it's nice to be able to slow down and take time to really look around without being bumped into/having to worry about something selling out.

I also snagged some blueberries and radish microgreens. I'll be eating verrrryyyyy well for the next several days, that's for sure. While you'll find a larger selection at the bigger Saturday market, when it's peak produce season like it is now the tables will be overflowing with goodness on Wednesdays, too. And it's just a bit mellower, and always easy to find a place to park. All of the vendors are happy to talk with you about what they're selling and I enjoy that as much as everything I bring home! Practicalities: bring cash, because even though several vendors do take cards, not all of them do and there's usually a $10 minimum. Plus, cash enables you to spend a few bucks at several different tables if you want to (I mean, why not try a tomato or two from each?). And bring your tote bags to load up, to save on having to use any plastic or paper (which most vendors do have in some form). Most of all, just enjoy strolling through the park and seeing all the bounty on offer, and know you're supporting Maine farmers by buying local.

Every vendor we walked by, said hello and seemed warm and friendly. The area was set up near the main walkway, which was nice - very tidy and organized. There were a lot of different patrons, young and old and everyone seemed so happy and engaged with the vendors. I can't believe it's taken me YEARS to finally visit. I will definitely return, if I can get out of work in time. That's the only downside, they are only set up until 6pm on Thursdays.

Their chickens peck away in various fenced in spots around the small building and over look rolling hills and their large farm house. Fresh meats, eggs, milk and yogurt in the fridge and freezer when available and fresh veggies and crafts along the shelves. This is a self serve so bring your small bills but lots of them, you will want it all. There is stacks of egg cartons and bags that people bring back to be reused so bring yours to help out the recycle process.

Here you can usually find what you need for your produce needs between two to three vendors that primarily do produce. Since it's small you don't always have the most choice to "shop around" on costs, but it's all fresh! Other tents have gourmet jams, loose leaf tea, breads/baked goods, pasta sauce and maple products, meat, beauty products/soap and fresh cut flowers among other things you can usually find as well. One thing that I can't find here that disappoints me is any delicious local cheese or other dairy products so don't count on finding that. Bottom line: worth stopping by to support local and get some good stuff!
