I had a crown break and come off over the weekend. Searched the internet for dentists on Monday. Dr. Wallin had great reviews. I called and his office was closed until Tuesday. I was not in pain, so left a message expecting an appointment within a couple of weeks. Tuesday morning I receive a call from Dr. Wallin's office telling me they could fit me in at 11am that morning! When Dr. Wallin and his assistants examined by crown situation, he told me that they had a last minute cancellation and he would be able to fit me for a new crown right then!! Additionally, I explained that I was late for a cleaning. He checked with his Hygienist, and she said she would clean my teeth while I was there too! Less than 2 hours later I walked out following a full dental exam, complete set of new xrays, and a sonar teeth cleaning to boot. Dr. Wallin provided me with a full consultation about the condition of my teeth, gums and mouth. One of his nurses gave me an injection prior to preparing my new crown and I never felt even a pinch from the needle. The office manager fully explained all itemized costs prior to any procedures and what my insurance would cover. The prices were more than reasonable ( I have had plenty of dental work). I left the office feeling like I just met a bunch of new trustworthy friends who really cared about my health. Everyone was professional, polite, demonstrated experienced care, and extremely friendly. I am glad they had room to accept me as a new patient.

There is never a rushed feeling during treatment -he lets the novocaine do its job before drilling . He uses nitrous oxide to help me relax . He explains what he is doing & he & his assistant praise me too during the procedure which gives me confidence . During long procedures he makes sure that I get a bathroom break . I have called my insurance carrier to make a formal complaint, also I called Molly Perra at the Colorado Dental Association, and will file a written complaint. I would have written BBB, however Mertz is not a member, understandable so. There should be no excuse for fraudulent, unethical practices, especially when dentistry is a needed service.

My intuition told me to walk out and I have kicked myself for not listening! After the intake, I was taken on a tour of the office. That's right folks, a tour. Each chair has a monitor on which to watch a movie while being worked on. Seriously...how can one concentrate on a movie with drilling, prodding and poking going on?! I sure can't. And over here we have a state of the art digital imaging machine...and? But the pièce de résistance was the paraffin wax bath for your hands, souvenir coffee mug, lip balm and pen! Run, run away as fast as you can. My fears were confirmed after I was sold this antibiotic (Arestin) which they inject into your gum pockets. At $40 a pop and no insurance I was fuming mad and $320 in the hole. Not only that, but Arestin is only minimally effective and the hygenists get incentive pay for selling it! I was able to recoup half of that from the practice after much bitching, but I will never go back and will certainly do thorough research on a drug or procedure beforehand. And the dentist? I saw him a total of 5 minutes on the first visit. He checked the xrays and looked at my teeth and told me what needed to be done and that was it. Didn't even have the balls to talk to me about the Arestin!
