We all agree that it just felt right when we found St. T. We did not know a single soul when came here but now have many close friends. It is a hidden gem, but worth looking for. Super location at the edge of Memorial Park. It is not unusual to see runners and golfers pop in for mass. Very diverse: students, singles, couples, young families, seniors; all kinds, all walks. All are truly welcome here. Each Sunday obligation mass has a different "flavor", so try another if you aren't feeling the right fit. Also, our pastor Fr. Phil is awesome. Check us out. You will not be just another name on the parish roll. Join a club, a ministry or a class and you will meet lots of really genuinely nice people. I really encourage runners to come by. My dream is to have a runners' mass maybe once a month, I think that would be really cool! P.S. I give 5 Stars because I love this church, but I know it is not perfect. Jesus Christ was the radical of the day and as our Christian Judaeo was formed we have always been a people of change which means poking the bears of government and its leaders on both side. I pray we don't let change get confused with the political climate formed in recent years by both the established parties. I have found the First Methodist is a good church, a well intentioned church, with good people and leaders. The messages from the pulpit have been direct and on point, and I feel inspired by God. Pastor Nixon seems to be delivering messages of an "awakening " theme. It a hard to hear the truth sometimes. First Methodist is not a prefect church, which one really is... it is, however a historical church with an awesome musical, homeless, mission trip and outreach programs that are serving Houston and the world. They offer a traditional service and an alternative contemporary/modern venue. Both are outstanding examples of an approach to reach out to their community, be inclusive to all ages, ethnicities and Christian and non-Christian experiences. As an aside, John A.'s review was incomplete; they have not rewritten the Apostles Creed but will "resist the powers evil in the world" as part of Baptismal vows which includes the social justice charge against evil, injustice and oppression based Scripture and the UMC social principles teachings.

I really love this community…read more I was church shopping a couple years back and never thought to go to my neighborhood church. I chose it because: 1) It's diverse. If you attend 10:30 mass on Sunday, you'll see all sorts of races and ages in the congregation. 2) There's character and history. This parish was founded in 1908 and the chapel was built in the 1920s and is just gorgeous with the stained glass windows of Saints who are popular in the original Polish and German community in the Heights. 3) Everyone is nice. Father Adam - nice. Deacon Gary - nice. Office staff - nice. The inside of the chapel is beautiful. You won't find the usual crucifix hanging above the tabernacle. Instead, there's a mural of the Trinity. The ceiling is midnight blue with stars painted on top of it. Sounds hokey but it's quite nice. This is where the hubby and I tied the knot as well. Marriage prep classes are offered and you qualify to get that marriage license fee waived upon completion.

The community is large, but functions as a small town Parish - very focused on community-building. Tons of kids in the Parish but also a great focus on adult formation with the equivalent of adult CCD every Sunday - a wonderful place for all faithful.

The priest did a great job with the baptism immediately following the 1230pm service. I love the fact that their services were timely. They started immediately at 12:30. Parking was wonderful, across the street in the lot. Services started and ended on time which allowed people to get to their cars and on their way. They had crossing guard, which helped with traffic flow. What a great way to start the week.

I have passed this place up so many times but once inside I could not get keep my mouth closed it was the most beautiful place I have seen in my lifetime. The service started at 1230 and we had the christening immediately afterwards. This will not be my last time visiting. I also saw other reviews on this church but no one ever mentioned the parking and how it is plenty spot available.
