From the staff and location to the atmosphere and overall experience, everything was wonderful. Our room had the most stunning view of St Pancras. It was genuinely magical, especially at night. The room itself was perfectly sized and had such a cool aesthetic--very '60s mod meets the new millennium. The location was also the best we've experienced in London. We stayed at two other hotels during our previous trip, and having St Pancras/King's Cross station literally steps away made getting around the city incredibly easy and manageable. The hotel is slightly removed from the busiest tourist areas, which we loved, but the neighborhood still had plenty of energy and gave us that ideal London atmosphere. And then there is the lovely staff. Not a single day went by when we didn't feel completely welcomed. We were always greeted with genuine smiles, and everyone was incredibly accommodating with any needs or preferences we had. I especially loved getting to know Jack at the front desk. He was absolutely fabulous in every sense of the word--a true treasure and such a memorable part of our stay. He knew the area incredibly well, and when I mentioned that my local friends and I were going to a West End show, he had so much insight to share. Chatting with him was genuinely one of the highlights of our stay This hotel became such a special part of our London trip. We were already talking about returning before we had even left, and I truly hope this was only the first of many stays.

When I booked The Standard, I was not aware that the default appeared to be a "no change, no…read morecancellation" policy. Apparently once they have your money, they aren't giving it up. Anyway, my flight was set to get in one day later than planned, so I approached them to reduce my stay by one day. They were uncooperative to say the least. Didn't answer the phone; when they did, they left me on hold for extended times and generally did everything they could to be uncooperative. When I took my concern to Hotels.com, they got the same treatment, trying several times to get The Standard to engage and end up with a satisfied customer. As I get to the UK once or twice a year, and in fact, I was returning back to London in a few days, they could have doubled their sale on me. Instead, I returned to my longtime favorite, the Crown Plaza, and am making this post to warn other travelers. If you need to communicate with these folks once you have booked, good luck. That's why my next and future trips to London I will be staying elsewhere.

The food, except for the smoked salmon, is slightly below average, feeling old and tired, despite being a fan of scones and shortbread. I hardly touched the £8/$10.69 Kingsdown still water, it's really unnecessary. It's our museum day. Between the army museum and the British Museum, we're hunting for lunch near the latter. The elegant Georgian townhouses, dating back to 1860 in the heart of Bloomsbury, caught my eye. They're next to the British Museum, on the quiet Montague Street. We got a family room (2 adults and 2 children) and the room was very roomy. Shampoo and soap were supplied in large dispensing bottles. I'm not sure if this a European thing but they had a towel warmer that I absolutely loved! Thankfully we were just one floor up and our room was near the stairs. Otherwise the layout of rooms was somewhat confusing. Rooms were clean and beds very comfortable. I'm lobby, they always had 3 different flavored drinks. The computers in the business room had issues Location-wise we were happy. Close to Natural History Museum and Kensington Palace/Hyde Park. Close to Gloucester Underground. Lots of restaurants, grocery stores were nearby. I'd definitely recommend it.

This is makes strollers a huge hassle, but I sort of expected it in London since many buildings are old. Just be aware. There are several stairs to enter the hotel, and there is no ramp. The hotel staff or passersby were always happy to help us without the stroller as needed. Much about the hotel was great. Great breakfast, clean rooms, and a friendly staff. But there was just a lot of inconsistency. The rooms are equipped with coffee pods machines. Fine. But it was like pulling teeth trying to get pods each day. The first two days, housekeeping did not replace the pods at all. Each day after that during our week-long stay, I left a note asking for more coffee pods. One day, I got one pod. The next two, none. Ridiculous. Our key cards deactivated almost every day. This is another huge hassle when you have young ones with you because you have to tell through the narrow hallways to go back to the front desk and get new cards. One of our rooms was a premium room in order to accommodate a crib. The arm rest of the couch was broken. I would stay here again because it was a decent value in January given the location. It is just a 5 minute walk to the grocery store, pharmacy, and Piccadilly Line, and less than 10 minutes walking to the Nature and Science Museums and Hyde Park. Just manage your expectations and you'll enjoy your stay here.

Review of London Bridge Hotel…read more I am compelled to write this review due to an unacceptable experience at the London Bridge Hotel, where safety concerns, poor service, and shocking levels of rudeness left a lasting negative impression. Our stay was marred by an incident where a member of our group slipped and fell on the poorly designed stairs. The steps are barely distinguishable, posing a clear hazard that has reportedly caused falls for both staff and guests. When we reported the incident to the duty manager, the situation was handled appallingly. The individual on duty--later identified as Alpay, the head receptionist--initially did not even seem to know who the duty manager was. After checking, Alpay confirmed it was indeed him during the incident but admitted he failed to act despite claiming to be present when the fall occurred. No first aid was offered, no basic care protocols were followed, and when asked to see the report that should have been logged, Alpay flatly refused. It was painfully clear that no report had been made, and his dismissive and rude attitude compounded an already unacceptable situation. His behavior in front of another receptionist was unprofessional, and his need to always have the last word, coupled with the unpleasant smell of cigarette breath, made the interaction even worse. This level of service is not only disappointing but also fails to meet the minimum standard of decency and care expected in the hospitality industry. The fact that someone like Alpay, who demonstrated dishonesty and rudeness, holds a position of responsibility as head receptionist reflects poorly on the management of this hotel. The experience at breakfast only reinforced the poor service culture. Staff were abrupt, and at 11 a.m. sharp, we were told we needed to leave, even if we hadn't finished. Room service was equally inconsistent, rounding out a series of service failures that made this stay intolerable. In the interests of being fair and balanced, there was one receptionist who was present at the time of the appalling interaction with Alpay, and he was kind and polite throughout the stay. Unfortunately, I cannot name him in this situation because I didn't catch his name. Alpay, however, should be reprimanded and given further training on basic customer service because he is not someone who should be leading the reception area and claiming to be a duty manager. These are titles that far exceed the communication and professionalism received from him. I do hope the general manager takes the time to review CCTV footage and address the serious concerns raised here. This review reflects my values and expectations for basic human decency and customer service--both of which were utterly lacking at the London Bridge Hotel. For these reasons, I cannot recommend staying here. Avoid it if you value safety, professionalism, and respect.

Also, the shower temperature fluctuated from hot to cool occasionally. If management were able to fix these issues it would make the hotel a lot more appealing.

It's also a 10-minute walk to the Victoria & Albert Museum and about a 15 minute walk to Kensington Gardens (a lovely public park). Lots of pluses. 1. First, it's a historic, elegant Victorian hotel built in the 1870s and restored in the 1990s. The nicest part of the hotel is the grand interior staircase. One plus is that an elevator (lift) is available if you're staying on the upper floors. 2. The rooms are clean and tastefully decorated with a small desk. However, the classic double room is quite small. I stayed in Room 137 (overlooking the tube station) and it felt like a studio apartment in New York City). If you don't mind cozy spaces, this is a good option for a short stay. 3. You have a simple temperature control gauge in your room next to the front door. If it's a hot summer day, be sure to turn up the A/C. In London, I noticed folks tend not to use A/C as much as in the United States. There were a few minuses as well. Given the small-sized interior rooms and bathroom (well-designed but tiny), I don't think it's great for families (with kids) or large groups. Also, at check-in, the hotel staff could be clear about the 50 pound deposit for incidentals, and explain that you need to put your key in the slot near your hotel room door to activate all the lights.
