Pros: convenient walking area to the station and to a lot of the attractions for tourism. If you become a member for free you get wine and cheese plate and coffee everyday which is great. If you are on a budget and looking for somewhere to stay in the center of London, you might consider the Z hotel. My experience was positive overall, however there were a couple of problems which prevent me from giving it my full recommendation. The good thing is that these are correctable issues. Starting off with the positives, the staff were friendly, hardworking, and accommodating. Also, the location was great. It is located right by the tube station and it is walking distance from a lot of great restaurants and sightseeing locations. My room was very small. Since it is a budget hotel in London, this was expected. It was fine for me but if you are 6 feet or taller, I would definitely recommend upgrading to a larger room. The room also did not have a window - but I do not mind this since I enjoy being able to make my room pitch black at night. There were two main issues. The first was that the air conditioner had a musty smell to it. If the air conditioner were replaced the room would feel a lot more fresh - I think this is a simple fix. Also, the shower temperature fluctuated from hot to cool occasionally. If management were able to fix these issues it would make the hotel a lot more appealing. read more

I chose this place because it is a stone thrown away from Victoria train station and it's centrality. The staff definitely deserve 5 stars. They are very friendly and strive to please. Other than that it is a bit of a mixed bag. The rooms are EXTREMELY small. The rooms are essentially the size of a walking closet. I was traveling with a large bag and there was nowhere comfortable to put it or even open it (there is no closet). I had to decide between opening my bag OR being able to come in and out of the room. I am so glad I ask for a room with a window (apparently they have windowless rooms) otherwise I would have felt absolutely claustrophobic. Other than that the room was well equipped with a hair dryer, kettle, hot chocolate, tea and instant coffee. The bathroom looked brand new. The lobby is also a cafe and bar that is 24/7. You can add a continental breakfast to your stay for £12, which I did not but the spread did look good. All in all it was an uncomfortable stay. If I had payed less for the room perhaps I wouldn't have minded so much. It is basically an upscale hostel. I would say it is worth no more than £90 per night. They have free WiFi and I appreciated the a/c which not all hotels have. read more

The Z Hotel Victoria is part of a local chain. This one is very close and convenient to the Victoria Rail and Bus Stations. There are a number of theaters, restaurants and pubs in the area. The Z offers basic accommodations with compact rooms en suite. The staff are friendly and helpful. The lobby has a small eating/sitting area and offers limited bar and food services. The TVs in each room are huge and so are the bath towels. Prices are reasonable and there is daily room service. If basic, comfortable and convenient accommodations are what you desi, the Z Hotel fits the bill. read more

Stayed there a few years ago and finally getting around to raving about them. Sure, the room is small, but it is well-maintained, super clean and let's face it, you shouldn't be spending too much time in it. The fact that these folks were so nice, and let us check in early due to our red-eye arrival from the States (8am and exhausted, mission:sleep was unsuccessful on plane) was a huge extra, something we don't take for granted. The wine and cheese in the evening was a nice touch. In a nutshell, the location was great, the employees were super accomodating and pleasant, and we have never forgotten this. This kicked off our honeymoon to Greece, purposely spending a few days in London first, and we could not have had a better start. A great price for what you get. If you're worried about the size of the room then you're probably doing London wrong. read more

The staff here is really friendly and helpful. My boyfriend had booked the room and the location was perfect for us. However, he booked a windowless room which made me feel like I was living in a box. There was no area to store clothes except for a nightstand. The ronn was clean. The shower was a plus as it had great water pressure. They have a happy hour daily with cheeses and desserts which was nice but the wine was not very good. This was, by far, the best hotel we stayed in during our entire trip to England. The Z Victoria is in a prime location and you definitely see that reflected in the price. When we arrived, we walked into what looked to be a restaurant and the check in counter is at the 'bar'. We arrived late morning and well before check-in time but they were happy to store our luggage while we headed out to explore London. When we arrived back at the hotel and got to our room, I can't say that I was all that surprised by the size. This is prime real estate and I had done a lot of research on this hotel prior to booking it. We had opted for an 'inside' queen meaning this room didn't have a window but I honestly can't say that I missed it with the way they have their lighting. The room layout was the most efficient I have ever seen and although the room itself was small, it certainly didn't feel like it. The whole 'wet room' area is frosted glass but since I was with my husband, that didn't bother me... I don't think I would share a room with a friend though. The only issue I had with this hotel was the sound of the Underground. Our room was on the first floor and I don't honestly know if it was the constant rumbling of the tube or the time difference that kept me up but I found it hard to sleep the first few nights. I would definitely recommend requesting a higher room. Apart from that, our entire stay at the Z Victoria was fantastic... from the service to the complimentary wine and cheese every evening (okay, since I don't drink, the wine was lost on me but the cheese selection was bloody fantastic!). Location: right next to the victoria station, a few minutes walk from the buckingham palace and around 30-45 min walk to kensington palace and picadilly. There are many restaurants nearby and also the train/bus to gatwick airport. Room: very small but cozy room. We had the room without windows for cheaper. It's clean and comfy. The only issue for us was the frosted glass washroom. You can also see the person showering. Service: the staff was nice and friendly. The check in only starts at 3pm, but they offered to keep our luggage while we visit. When we came back at night the luggages were already in the room. read more

The hotel is in a perfect location near Victoria Station and has great Underground service as well. Within walking distance of Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. The hotel is modern with small, but functional rooms and a good bathroom with a great shower. No closet just a few hanging knobs and a drawer/desk. The biggest problem for me was that there was no window. It felt claustrophobic at times. I could not sleep well. This is the only reason why I am giving the hotel a three stars. The staff is very friendly and nice. They had a Happy Hour and a little restaurant in the lobby where a full breakfast was served(extra/ day). I did not do breakfast since I was meeting my family and we ate breakfast together every day. I saw people eating at all times at the lobby-restaurant. The hotel and room were clean. Everyday room service came and provided me with my needs. On the first drawer a coffee maker is available, the provide coffee, tea, hot chocolate with real creamer not powdery stuff. That was nice. One thing I would like to point out is the frustration with the temperature of the room. It was cold. I would raise the thermostat to no avail. Location is prime! read more

This hotel room cracked me up when I walked in. When my husband booked this incredible expensive room, he already warned me that there are no windows in the room. Already, I thought that was weird but oh well. This whole Paris,London trip has changed my expectations in hotels relative to the ones in the U.S. When we checked in, I nearly confused the lobby for a coffee shop or something based on their decor or a long wooden bench, and some bar top tables on the side, with a big tv hanging on the wall. We also happen to check in close to their free wine and cheese afternoon time. The room itself was quite small, and felt like a room you get in a cruise boat with the lack of window. We had to stick the luggages under the desk and stick to the corner to make sure we don't trip over things. For someone who's always use to windows in a hotel room, this was really weird. But, decor was so modern it was hard to complain too much. They only had one available outlet by the table which was kind of annoying. Bring your own surge protector so you can charge more than one thing at once and blow dry your hair at the same time. The bathroom/shower..... very interesting. Make sure you are sharing a room with someone you don't mind seeing you naked, because the bathroom/shower glass wall that touches the bed, will allow whoever is in the room to see/peek all. read more

When I booked, I was offered a choice of rooms, some with windows and some without. I don't like not having a window, it's weird. The rooms are VERY compact, with a set of drawers by the bed, a desk/shelf, and the shower/toilet glass cube all in the one space. The bed takes up all of one wall pretty much and the TV is at the end on the wall. Having said all that, the quality is really good. The telly is massive with a million channels including many foreign language, and there is Aircon/heating which is easy to decipher. The bed had nice cotton sheets and plenty of pillows. There is complementary wine and cheese every night between 5 and 8 including bread and fondue, hummus and olives, and the breakfast is ok for £8, with porridge pots, Danish pastries, croissants and hot bacon eggs and sausages. The service here is great! We had some issues on our trip, and they really were there for all our needs. Also, they have free wine, cheese and other snacks from 5-8 PM every day. This is such a great perk after walking around and exploring all day! The rooms are also very modern and clean. The TV selection is very vast as well. Some negatives, however, are the following: 1. The rooms are VERY small. I would only book this hotel if you're traveling alone. It's hard to fit even two people with luggage in a room. 2. They don't have rooms with 2 twin beds FYI. I requested that with Booking.com and something went wrong with the booking I guess. When my dad and I requested switching rooms to one with 2 twin beds, they told us that doesn't exist in this hotel. 3. They recommended Laundrapp, which was a HORRIBLE experience. They almost lost or laundry the day we had to leave. Do not use that service if you stay here. Overall, great hotel if you're traveling solo and great service! read more

Terrible service and deceitful staff. A room was booked for me during business travel due to the hotel's convenient location. Unfortunately I had to leave the UK a day early and the booking was no longer needed. I made the trip to the hotel late before my departure to speak with the receptionist. I was assured a refund and given (unknowingly at the time) incorrect instructions on how to secure said refund. Early the next morning I boarded a plane and left the country. Upon landing I noticed I had been charged for the room. Upon speaking with management about the issue, I was met with blatantly fake concern and condescending assurance that they would do "everything they could." A few minutes later I received an email stating that I would not get a refund because I did not follow the "explicit and specific instructions given to me by the receptionist," the same instructions I never received. Essentially, the hotel took the word of an employee trying to protect himself, instead of a customer who had been wronged. Management also took advantage of the fact that I had left the country, and could not speak with them in person to resolve the issue. My experience with the hotel was comparable to the feeling of having one's wallet stolen. Extremely unprofessional. read more

3.5 stars. A space-conscious hotel in convenient locations in London. This one made use of an odd space sandwiched between two other buildings and made it into a hotel. I wouldn't call it a budget hotel, because the prices can be pretty steep regularly ($200+), but it seems that sometimes they run deals where you can get a room for $100+. The appeal of this hotel is the lack in size of the room (in creating a different experience from most hotels). It is very efficient with the space, so if you've ever wanted to try tiny living, this is your chance to practice. The space between the bathroom and the wall forms a nice gap, which is where the bed goes. Other than that, there's a small desk and a limited walkway. We booked late, so we were only able to get a room with no window for the steep price. The whole experience was very much like the inner cabin on a cruise ship. The room was fairly comfortable though with comfy linens and decent toiletries. However, because of the thin walls, you could hear people talking outside in the hallway, and you could also feel the rumbling of the tube below. With that said, the 5-8pm daily cheese and wine time exceeded all expectations! It is complimentary as part of your stay, and I strongly encourage you to try and make it. The spread is really nice with not just cheese and wine, but a full assortment of chocolates, fruit, olives, jams, crackers, and bread. read more

Love love love this hotel! The location can't be beat! It's literally across the street from Victoria Station. Maybe a 1 minute walk. The rooms are small but very modern and clean! The air conditioning worked great and the bathroom was very very nice. Having a room with no window is rather odd but really we didn't notice it missing. The complimentary wine and cheese served in the evening was so good! Awesome cheese selection and the wine was great! We tried the breakfast and really enjoyed it. They served it with real honeycomb! The price was right (read low!) for clean, modern hotel room by the Victoria tube station. As I was worried about a room without windows would make me feel claustrophobic, I sprung for the room for a window. Upon checking in there was water for me to enjoy while they worked out the check in process. I was lucky to get upgraded to a queen bed which was quite a perk! Understand, that even with a room with a view and a queen size bed, its a tight fit as promised. As I was traveling alone, it was enough space for me and my big ole' suitcase, but an American couple (who are used to large rooms) might struggle a bit. As long as you set your expectations on a small space and are okay with sharing a bathrooms enclosed by glass walls (read not a lot of privacy), this is a great place. Only stayed a night, but no complaints. Room is small, but they're fairly open about that and it didn't feel cramped. Queen bed definitely helped with that, as did an unexpected upgrade to a room with a window. Nothing for sale in the room itself, but free water (with nice glassware!) and free wifi, which is a welcome breath of fresh air from hotels attempting to nickel and dime you. Apparently, there's free wine and cheese and the bar is open 24/7; didn't have a chance to check out any of this unfortunately. The bar/breakfast area is basically the reception area, which is strange but ok. Staff was friendly and helpful in all my interactions with them. The Z* Hotel is pretty cool! The downstairs cafe is really nice. It provides some great food and drink options, including a very nice breakfast selection. Guests can enjoy complimentary coffee and tea, as well as a complimentary wine and cheese reception in the afternoon. Rooms are compact but very comfortable. I opted for an interior room because I like sleeping somewhere really dark and quiet and don't mind an enclosed space, and that worked out fine (though if you do opt for an interior room, it's important to set an alarm, especially if you're combating jetlag). It's very quiet and the location is great! We got a bigger room for more and everything is clean and tidy. For the price it's well worth it. However I wouldn't recommend it for those with back problems as the bed is rock hard. I stayed three nights with my fiancé and we have new appointments for the chiropractor after our trip. Honestly, I can only give this hotel two stars. 1 star for location and one star for cleanliness. Was disappointed in how small the room was, I mean small! Ok for one SMALL person, but not two. The mini toilet is surrounded by glass and you can even hear a drop of water into the sink = no privacy if with another person. Never needed to consistently ask hotel staff to tidy a room, but this hotel just didn't do it unless you asked. They do not have ice or buckets of ice, don't ask because they will look at you with a blank look on their face. We also needed to heat up a small hand pie and they stated they didn't have a microwave or toaster, which was ridiculous! Your in the hotel business! I understand some hotels do not have a mini fridge (this one didn't either, no sweat) but No ice, no micro or toaster?? We asked for a taxi or to call a cabbie for us and again, we got the blank stare and was told that they dont work with any taxi service AND No, they wouldn't call for one. Told us to go out on the street to try and find one. Alright, fine. ALSO, be warned, this hotel rations your electricity use. How? Well, the sockets will just quit working or the TV will shut it self off while watching. And yes, we had to put our room key in a slot in the room just to get electricity and the room key was in the slot. They are trying to conserve energy, I get it. Example- I was watching TV and the other half wanted to dry her hair, nope, can't do both. She starts drying and the TV shuts off. Everytime. Or worse, the socket times out with her hair half done, not a fun situation. There is also no central air conditioning, there is a little room unit that does cool ok, but forget getting any sleep with it, it's super loud and sounds like a diesel engine every 15 minutes. Cool and awake or hot and awake, take your pick or bring good ear plugs. So, I went down and got earplugs the next day. BUT, when I put my earplugs in, I could then hear the tube/subway roaring underneath the hotel, FML. This is a no frill, very limited amenities hotel. It's not a hostel, you do get a room to yourself, but don't ask for anything because they don't have it or won't do it. My recommendation is pay a bit more somewhere else so you don't have to eat your dinner cold. The lack of the ability to warm my dinner was the last straw and made my stay uncomfortable and unhappy. If I knew and was informed of the lack of basic amenities, I would have gone elsewhere. I thought long and hard before writing this review because I have a lot of patience and understanding and truly believe in being fair. The staff was ok, but just not helpful at all and no desire to help= blank stares. This stay was painful. read more

Very small room with the bathroom right inside of it. No real walls to section off the bathroom, just glass so you can hear ever drop and every everything (gas, durps, etc). Service was very friendly. I blew out the electricity with my American hairdryer and they quickly came up to reset the power for me with no fuss. Offers free wine and cheese in the evenings.
