Expensive and not as good as those in China Town. If you're desperate for dim sum and can't be bothered to go to China Town then you're like me has to settle for this around here. Was craving dumplings and decided to check out St. Katherine's Docks. Ping Pong was easy to find near the main restaurant area. Being a late lunch the place was empty. The restaurant was decorated nicely to celebrate Chinese New Year; year of the monkey. Staff were every helpful, asking if I had been to there restaurants before, when I said I hadn't they kindly explained how the ordering works and recommends number of dishes to have per person. I decided to go with go with there Ping Pong Selection set menu, which had a selections for fried and steamed dumplings plus a rice dish. It was heaps of food and satisfied my craving. Food was well presented and each item was explained when delivered. All was delicious, my favourite was the potato and edamame cake. What stole the show was the flowering tea. I was fascinated by the dry tea leaves come to life in the boiling water become a stunning piece of art. Good food, fascinating tea and very attentive service will defiantly go back. read more

I like Ping Pong. I've been to three different locations of theirs and each has it own vibe. This one overlooks the boats of St. Katherine's dock and has a heated outdoor seating area. I've been here on both a lazy Sunday afternoon and more recently a very late Friday night. Service 3-4 stars: The service did it's best on Friday - but were clearly overwhelmed. Everyone at every table around me had to ask what had happened to their food after more than a half hour wait. They knew they were in the weeds though - and provided me a coupon for a free cocktail for my next visit (and they have quite a selection of exotic ones). They also ran out of chili sauce (a staple) that evening. On a lazy Sunday it was much better - even though that's the day they offer unlimited Dim Sum for 22 quid. Can't eat that much - but, many around me were enjoying it. Food: 3-4 stars: Largely depends upon what you get. I've had the set menu for 1, shared the set menu for 2 and have finally decided what I like and don't like - so, it's a better deal for me to just order a la carte now. Do recommend the set menu for first-timers. Here are my favorites: Prawn toast, squid ink seafood dumplings, chive and shrimp dumplings, spicy soup made with coconut milk and brocolli with a yummy sauce and sesame seeds. Least favorite: any of the rice dishes, the mushroom puff and the chicken dumplings. Atmosphere 3-4: Casual and good for everything from dates to hanging out with friends and family. Offer an on-going student discount - so always a few of those around. Value: 3-4, again depending on what you like. While many natives scoff at dim sum served by a chain - you can count on what you get maybe not being the best dim sum ever - but definitely consistently good. Bottom Line: When that dim sum craving hits again, I'll go back here to get my fix - but, I'll avoid the busier times. read more

This is the place to go to for dim sum lovers. It is easy food that goes along very well with the cocktails they serve or with the tea (flower tea as my friends call it). It is a very nice venue for a date in a quiet location and the music is good. It gets quite busy at the week end and at lunch time but works very well for a quiet week day dinner. The food is of good quality and the prices stay affordable if your not too heavy on the cocktails. The staff is friendly and helpful although veggies should always check their plate in the first place. Check out the tables outside as well, they are by the water and nice to enjoy the sight and the sunny weather. read more

This is one of the branchs that Ping Pong has in London. The menus change regularly (they have just released the new Summer menu). The food consist of Dim Sum mainly (small dishes usually steamed of fried). I have ordered here one of the set menus and it had a good range of food, perhaps not a lot of quantity but it was tasty. I have to say that I prefer for dim sum the 'Silk and Spice' Yum cha restaurant located in Chalk Farm that I have also reviewed as I found the food much more authentic and with better prices. But if you are near to Tower Bridge and fancy some dim sum Ping Pong is a good option. read more

This place is great. I have gone with my boyfriend and another friend of mine and we have always been very happy with the service and the food. I actually thought it was a bit pricy, but they have set menus for less than 10 GBP, so it was within any budget really. Best thing: cocktails. I have to absolutely agree with Jujwaller - St Katherine's Dock is a hiding place for the busy bustling streets of London. I have been a complete passionate docks goer for the last 10 years after coming across it completely accidentally one afternoon when taking my Italian friends out for a bite. St Katherine's Dock is a marina for boats, fishing boats and luxury yachts. It is quite small and condensed, but is very pretty with penthouse apartments surrounding it and great bars and cafes around the wooden hanging bridges. I am now addicted to my summer Sunday reading afternoons, I pick up my usual from the little cafe and lay on the stone benches by the marina reading a easy going novel. It's absolutely gorgeous, especially summer nights when people are just hanging around on their boats, by the marina, drinking wine and just looking chillled.. It feels like I am a miles away from the bustling noisy capital.. I would definitely recommend the Indian restaurant Mala and the Dickens Inn (fish n'chips) and the Japanese restaurant at the far end of the harbour. Zizzi's and Cafe Rouge are the more usual hangouts for locals. I almost forgot to mention the medieval banquet on the corner of the harbour in Ivory House as well - I am not sure how much this costs nowadays but it is great fun again you can book these through the internet and get a much better discount.. In case of urgent need for a toilet - you could use the Tower Hotel adjacent to the harbour or there are some public toilets at the far end of the harbour on the corner near to the Starbucks - they are usually quite clean! So if you just want to get away from London for a bit - then remember St Katherines Dock is the place to visit! read more

Nice location on St Katherine's Docks, especially in the summer when you can sit outside. The dishes are all small plates of dim sum, you usually get about 3 dumplings per serving so need to order several dishes per person. They have a standard menu and also seasonal specialities - when we went last week, the special lamb spring rolls were particularly good. Disappointingly, quite a few dishes (including some of the specials) had sold out. The dim sum we ordered were generally good and tasted quite fresh and flavoursome, however for the size of the portions it's a little expensive. read more

I was missing London today, so I will indulge and write my memories of this lovely area! How I have missed it, for as many times as I have been to the Tower, is beyond me, but I did, until a team retreat to London where I was asked to be in charge of the logistics... including food (thanks to Yelp!). If the boss is going to make us be together and do work things all weekend, I'm at least going to enjoy my meals on the company dime! So we spent the morning at the Tower then we walked to St Katharine Docks. How lovely! And what a surprise! I kind of felt like I was in another city. It is beautiful! Work BFF and I looked at each other and both said, "Super cute!" Clearly we have been missing out... of course after that I ended up here a lot... including one of those awful, awkward dates from an online dating website. At least the setting was lovely, almost makes you forget how much awkward is happening. We ate at one of the restaurants over looking the docks (Ping Pong), although clearly even my British colleagues had trouble finding the place as a few of us were sitting there waiting for some time, wondering if they were lost... in the Tower (cue evil cackle). Eventually they all found it. And of course there were very polite, "Oh, this is splendid" or "Lovely indeed" comments... which, knowing them, I can translate to, "Super cute!" As far as driving there, good luck, but walking there is a cinch and you should definitely make your friends go for drinks or dinner here. Or if your boss is mandating that you spend a weekend with the co-workers, that you already spend 24 hours a day with, take over and book a lunch here... or you can use it to retreat from them ;) Either way, you won't regret it. read more

I'm a huge fan of the two Ping Pong restaurants in DC, so I had high hopes for this one in spite of the bad Yelp reviews. Welp, should have heeded Yelp. The service was really friendly but the food was quite sub-par. The pork puff has always been my favorite at the US outlets but this version tasted as if it had been frozen and reheated- a real disappointment. The dumplings were nothing special and the chicken wings were small and not very flavorful. We ended up spending £50 for food for two people (no beverages) and although we were super full afterwards, the quality of the food was just not worth the money. read more

Awful food! I by accident booked tours around the fact we were going to visit the Borough Market and realized it was closed on Sunday's. I decided to try this spot with my husband because of distance. The ambiance is quiet nice and pleasant servers however the food was just so bland and made with such low quality ingredients. Don't waste your time even bothering to try their food. We ordered the steamed shrimp dumplings and the vegetarian tasting menu. Not one thing has flavor. One of the options in the veggie menu was a tofu rice bowl and it had some broccoli in it that tasted like it was boiled for days. Gross! read more

Ping Pong has a eat all you can offer called the Lazy Sumday fo £17.50 per person. It is quite a good deal if you are looking to pig out on a Sunday afternoon. This one in St Katherine's Dock offers alfresco seating, much better to sit outside than inside it can get a bit inside during busy times. It has been a great experience when I last went for Lazy Sumday; seating outside by the water, great views of all the boats / yachts sunny day, great weather. And the food is good. It have got some salads, and vegetable dishes which are not available in usual Chinese restaurant hence a plus point for vege lovers! We spent about £50 including drinks for two overall great value (only during Lazy Sumday though). read more

Went yesterday for a birthday treat - unlimited dimsum for £22.95. It didn't disappoint! Had lovely time, they were very accommodating of our party and put up with 3 small children too. Okay-- I know this is a chain, but it was super close to our hotel (The Tower Hotel), so we ended up here. Twice. The second time being we were so impressed. My travel companions are the pickiest of eaters. This place is amazing for that because there are SO MANY CHOICES. I love tapas, and tasting menus, so I love the dim sum concept because I can try so many different things. My boyfriend adored it the first time, and insisted on coming back. We sat out in the cold just so we could eat here again lol. (We ordered multiples of the asparagus!) I want to mention that the first time I came here, it was just my boyfriend and I, sitting by another couple that appeared to be on a date. The girl couldn't seem to find a wine she liked, so our amazing waiter offered to go next door to another restaurant to get a wine she would like. How is that for service? I was so impressed! This is such a gorgeous little oasis in amongst all the giant newspaper office blocks of Wapping. When the sun is shining it's lovely to sit out on the port or at one of the quaint little cafes (and a Starbucks) eating lunch and reading a book. They have a few shops there as well, and the place is just generally really well kept and attractive. read more

The food was good and it was reasonably priced, an excellent dining option for a group of people. However, I was most disappointed by the service; with so many waiters around I expected them to be more attentive, we had to ask 3 different people before we managed to get an extra place setting and a chair, as the largest table only seated 8. Also I had to wait a very long time for my drink to be served, despite ordering the food at the same time. When it did arrive I got a glass with a bead of green tea; there was no hot water with it!!! I had to ask especially for some so I could actually have a drink!!! When attempting to get the bill, I had to ask several different people before one came with the bill and when I wanted to pay, I felt I was ignored and despite asking to pay had to wait a further 10 minutes before someone came over. read more

St Katharine Docks is a great place to visit just to enjoy the boats and the happy , easy-going feel of the place . There are shops here , none of them are to my taste but that doesn't stop me from walking around here on a fairly regular basis . Its reeks of money , but it never feels unwelcoming to those of us who don't have piles of cash . read more
