TLDR: I was told my out-of-pocket cost would be $150. I paid that at the time of my appointment. Months later, I was randomly charged almost the same amount again -- for things I was never told would cost extra. I've been dealing with the medical system for going on 3 years now after being diagnosed with PPPD (Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness), which has completely flipped my life upside down. I had just relocated to stay with family because my condition made it impossible to live independently. I called this office ahead of time because I was about to lose my job and health insurance. I told them I was paying out of pocket and asked for the cost of a new patient visit. They said $150 plus tax, that's it. So I went in, got my vitals taken, filled out the usual depression and anxiety screeners, talked briefly about my PPPD symptoms, and the NP suggested I try allergy meds in case it was Eustachian tube related. Then I paid the $150 I was told about and left. What I didn't expect was to get billed again -- apparently because I filled out their mental health questionnaires (which added $50 to my bill) and they upgraded my visit to a "Level 4" visit, which costs $278. No one told me that answering those forms would cost extra or that my visit would be coded as anything beyond a basic intake. At no point during or after the appointment did anyone say I owed more. I even paid at checkout. So what gives? Feels like a bait-and-switch. I was upfront about my situation and trying to plan responsibly -- and still got hit with extra fees months later for things no one disclosed. Just be aware. read more

This place has not been the same since Dr. Tammy Wilson left. There is no longer a regular doctor available. The nurse practitioner by the name of Paige should not be working with patients. She has a very condescending manner and not personal at all. I will be finding another doctors office to go to now. This is very sad to me since I had been seeing Tammy for over 30 years. I initially chose this practice about four years ago because it was close to my home. The staff has always been friendly toward me, although I've seen other reviews suggesting that experiences vary. Over time, however, I began to notice a general lack of experience or depth in the care I received. Unfortunately, I was a patient here during menopause, and that period highlighted several shortcomings. After experiencing two UTIs within six months, I asked the nurse practitioner about possible causes. Her response was to remind me to "wipe front to back." I'm 57 years old, and that advice felt dismissive and inappropriate, especially considering a lifetime of knowing basic hygiene. While there had been earlier instances where I felt the quality of care wasn't truly meeting my needs, that conversation confirmed it was time to look elsewhere. As I age, I need a provider who inspires confidence, thoroughly listens, and treats concerns with respect and seriousness. Several of the member of the office staff are rude. Some of the MA and PA team members are tone deaf. Staff members can be condescending and rude to patients...no issues with this behavior and then turn around and accuse patients of yelling at them. They expect patients to be understanding of appointments being 45 minutes or longer behind schedule but will don't dare be 5 minutes late or they will cancel your appointment and charge you a late fee. The reason for this magnificent display of double standards....you guessed it...we can't have patients making other patients late. But doctors being behind schedule and doctors being behind schedule by an hour, well that is called patient care. When called out on the hypocrisy they will point to policies patients signed. The "rules for thee but not for me" is the culture and tone of this organization. It is standard operating procedures here to put callers on hold for 20+ minutes each time you call, and returning calls isn't part of their job description. If you are looking for an impersonal experience, where you have to plan to be sick because you can't get appointments less than 2 months out and a place where the doctors time is more valuable than anyone else's then this is definitely the place for you. read more

They drove out ( Kellys words ) the Best PA they had, Kelly was wonderful. And after I got upset and wanted another dr to talk to and the PA refused to let me. They assumed I meant leaving the practice, I meant another dr in that practice. and Now they wont send the referral to Sally Jobe that Kelly originally sent. I've been a patient for 36 years at Pinon Family Practice and today was treated so poorly that I will never return. As other's have noted below, the practice no longer cares about their patients or loyalty. They have lost several NP's that were outstanding, and it is painfully obvious they only care about making money. I have never missed an appointment in 36 years, and was charged $80 for one I just missed. I actually understand the appointment being missed needs to be charged since it could have been used for someone else, but they sent me a reminder a week earlier when I was out of town with no follow-up reminder. Hope you enjoy that last $80 because you will never get another penny from me...moving on to a practice that cares about its people. This one used to. read more

If I could give a negative rating I would. I called about 6 months ago to have a doctor look over my Mother's medications, since this is one of the jobs a primary care physician has. I received a call back from a PA and when I asked questions I was made to feel like I was a bother. I found out by a Pharmacist that 3 of her medications were for short term use and she had been on them for years. If you are a patient there be sure a DOCTOR is monitoring your medications! Now to the present...my mother recently passed and the Coroner and the Funeral Home Director tried for days to reach a doctor in the office to sign the death certificate but had great difficulty in doing so. They left message after message, and this was before the July 4th holiday. CO law requires that the death certificate be signed by a doctor within 2 days from being contacted of a patients death. She died on a Saturday and began reaching out on Monday. The Coroner talked to someone on Tuesday and faxed over the report the doctor needed in order to fill out and sign the death certificate, which should have been immediately. It took a doctor 5 days to sign it , but only after I called to speak to a doctor, but never heard back from one. Pretty cowardice if you ask me. They tried having a PA sign it (without any of the needed information filled out), which is also against the law. It's a tragedy that they have put our family through this during this difficult time. I will be informing the health department of all of this! read more

The office manager runs the show! Patient health is NOT the driving force money and who cows down to her is what matters. Employees are allowed to be rude and condescending to patients but patient aren't allowed to stand up for them or their loved ones. She even goes as far as cancelling prescriptions that a pharmacy has in its system. The doctors and nurse practitioners should be ashamed for allowing this to go on and/or not knowing what she is up to. read more

Wow I was concerned when Kelly said that she had to leave bc no one at the practice cared anymore about the patients. Ive seen first hand what she meant. Her assistant did return an urgent call from Last Thursdy and then tried to argue with me me when I said it doesnt matter if it was thurs or Friday , either way it was last week. I told her I didnt need her help bc the ER already helped me out Thursday afternoon AFTER I called PINON. And she said all happy "Great hope you feel better" and hung up. I'm 33 now and they cut me off because of the scheduling me an appointment while I'm working full time and I missed the appointment. Not even my fault. I'm highly disappointed in that practice. Stay away. They do not listen here. Dr. St. Clair gave notice of leaving the practice. She should have left then. Cancelled two appointments last minute, Staff kept sending ultrasound orders to wrong imaging place, My imaging place called for verbal and was hung up on. They only needed a verbal but blamed Sally Jobe staff. Right. This happened many times. Then after waiting all weekend over the long 4 of July weekend this year, I reached out to talk to an incompetent receptionist who tried putting me into VM of the even more incompetent medical assistant who stated I told her to contact the wrong imaging place. No, never spoke to her. She was passed my message. Seriously, why would I say send me out of network where my insurance pays $0? Maybe they should review my records as I had asked the doctor many times before this incident to make sure she uses in network options. They do NOT listen nor care. I ended up in the ER with a $1,500 copay where as they could of handled this all easily and professionally for a $0 copay. Worthless, incompetent, non-caring practice. They were fired this day. Stated that to rude staff member. On call doc too busy to call me after speaking with their answering service. Two weeks later they send a certified letter terminating our relationship. I signed it under duress. I highly discourage using this office. The office manager should be terminated along with most of the staff. Their turnover rate is huge. Wonder why? After holding for several minutes this morning I asked the scheduling manager for an appointment for my Mom who is battling a chronic lung issue. After describing how Ill she was and that we were trying to set up an appointment as soon as possible. The scheduler began laughing loudly over the phone. She then explained that she wasn't laughing at me but at her co-worker who had forgotten her keys and went into a lengthy explanation about her co-workers story. Finally, i had to interrupt and ask again about an appointment... remember, you're working right now and I have a sick mom? She then proceeded to ask me what kind of insurance my mom has. I started to look it up and and then asked, if her insurance affected the availability of an appointment or not. All she would say is that Pinon would only take certain insurance and wouldn't see some patients. When I told her the insurance type, she then had to ask a doctor about seeing out of state patients (which apparently they don't). So after all that rigamarole of her acting unprofessionally and being ignorant to her company's policies she finally said, "yeah- just take her somewhere else." No problem with that. I happily went here in the past around 2018 and after health insurance changes, thought I'd come back in Oct of 2023. Unfortunately, my doctor from before was no longer there, who I loved. My experience was far from even average, I came in for an office visit to basically do nothing but fill the new doctor in on everything that could have been found in my medical records, so that she could "believe me" that I had done all the work with a team of doctors (3, counselor, OBGYN/primary doc, and psychiatrist) at my prior office for a year to be diagnosed ADHD at the age of 42. I had come in to continue my medications and knew and said I'd be running out in a month and would need a medication prescribed before it would be out. At the end of that month closing in a week before that med was needed, I went through the portal requesting it, 4 days later no call back/no answer on portal till I called the office and had the receptionist tell me I would need a physical with them before they would prescribe. R U kidding me? Never told by the doctor at the "believe me/meet me" office appointment, never receive that information from the doctor on the portal. AND I had just had a physical with my prior doc in Aug 2023 and this was Oct 2023. This is unacceptable. I understand policies and procedures, I work for a law firm, BUT when you don't tell a patient till it's too late to get a prescription that is needed and is not to be missed, this is horrible customer service and medically wrong. Needless to say I will pay more to go back to my prior out-of-network doctor. And then to receive a bill for that "believe me/meet me" office appointment, is ridiculous. read more

I had a very negative experience at Pinon Family Practice today for a new patient intake. When I called earlier in the week, the scheduler was helping at the front desk and requested to take my information to call me back. She called back an hour later and got me scheduled with Jacqueline Van Cleave. I did all the client history paperwork in the portal earlier in the day before arriving, but apparently it didn't save, so the medical assistant had to ask me a variety of questions again. When the Jacqueline Van Cleave, FNP, came in the room. She did not introduce herself or ask me my name. She did not ask me why I was doing a new patient intake. She sat down and started by telling me the clinic hours and that they always have an afterhours doc on call that I can call if needed. She began to ask my family history, since all the information that I had already entered earlier in the day had not saved. She seemed rushed and a little annoyed. I was answering her questions and when I tried to elaborate on some of my history, she cut me short. She was looking at my vitals and said blood pressure, "normal", heart rate "normal", weight "elevated." I stopped her and asked how she would even know if my weight was elevated, since she had no previous measurements to compare to. She said that we were establishing my history. I did not agree with or appreciate her comment. She became defensive and I told her that this would not be a good fit and I left the intake. I asked the front desk to remove my information from their portal and to shred all of my paper documents and to remove me from their patient list. I told them they could keep my copay, but I will be requesting that they not submit to insurance, since she did not provide any care and the appointment was not completed. Jacqueline's interaction with me seemed rush, callous and annoyed, not a great start for a new client intake. I didn't appreciate having my weight commented on in such a flippant way. That is not why I was there to establish care and she had no point of reference to know if it was in fact elevated for me. I am really disappointed. I did a lot of research before calling Pinion Family practice to schedule an appointment. The front desk staff were professional and polite, but Jacqueline's bedside manner is lacking and I would not recommend this practice. read more

I am disappointed to have to write this review, but I have called 5 times over two weeks to try to speak with someone about my experiences with this practice and my calls have not been returned. I would not recommend visiting this office. My family and I started coming here 7 years ago, and all of the doctors we previously saw have left. Perhaps that's the issue, but I've had less than ideal experiences with the last few practitioners I've seen there over the past several months. I went in in July due to unexplained swelling in my face, and was told that most of the time there is no answer to allergic reactions. They prescribed a 5 day steroid course as the best option. The swelling got more frequent and more intense, and I began to develop hives, and I went back in. I saw someone different, and she prescribed a 21 day steroid course along with what I later learned was an eye drop (that I was supposed to apply to my lip for swelling?). She told me that if it didn't get better by mid week, she wanted to hear from me. She specifically said to call and that they would help me. I called on Wednesday twice, my call was not returned until after business hours. The nurse who I talked to read me a note from the practitioner and couldn't answer any of my questions. I called again on Thursday to discuss other options I had read about and ask questions, and the receptionist called me back at 5 PM stating that it was recommended that I go to the ER if I was still having hives. No discussion with a provider, no answers to my questions, no help at all, as was promised. I continued to have hives all over my body for 18 days straight. During that time, my brother got married and I went on a camping trip. I was in constant discomfort with no relief. I finally called to ask them for a referral to an allergist, which they provided with no other comment. Didn't even ask me how I was feeling. The allergist started me on a course of Zyrtec (you may have heard of it), the over the counter medicine. With ONE DOSE, my hives were completely gone and have not returned. Unfortunately, the cause of the hives was not an allergic reaction as indicated from the blood test that the allergist ordered. The allergist then recommended I see an endocrinologist, and suggested I call this office for a referral. I did so, and when they called me back they said they would not give me a referral because they had no clue what they were referring and for what diagnosis, rather, that I'd have to come in again. I asked if they could speak to the allergist they had referred me to in the first place and they refused. The allergist also confirmed that she had sent them the results of my bloodwork as well. It was after this that I tried to contact the office manager, who has refused to call me back. I will be transferring myself and my family's care out of this office and will not be recommending them to friends and family as I have done previously. I've gone to a few doctors around Littleton. It was just never right with any of them. They never took the time to answer questions. It was always in and out, 15 mins min. Piñon Family Practice, specifically Dr Bonin, takes the time to explain. She also saw that I was vegetarian and lactose intolerant, that she recommended a few food books for me to read. She spends the time with you during your exam to get into the details, especially when you have a physical. There were always questions I had that I remembered because of the thoroughness. I'm very happy with my choice and do not intend to switch providers. read more

5 to start... Im a newbie at this office. After brushing aside all of the negative reviews about the front end reception, I found Laura to be delightful and very courteous. The young lady who checked me out was also very pleasant. Perhaps, the people that call in are all sick, aggravated, and want service NOW! Just something to consider... Moving along, I found the atmosphere to be very comfortable. Often, Dr.'s office can seem stale or too sterile; as I walked through the doors, I felt very at ease (which is funny, as I was there for high blood pressure rx). The Dr. I saw was Dr. Quick, who was "quick" with his wit and assessment; very thorough. I'm scheduled to come back for a physical and look forward to taking the other Dr.s for a test drive, as most reviews indicate that they are all very good at their job! Perhaps too early to tell, but I have a good feeling about this place. It seems well put together. People there were very nice and I didn't have any issues. In and out, with a Coke and a smile. Dr. Darcy Scheeler has been our family doctor for many years. I have never had a better doctor. I never mind waiting for her when she's running behind, because I know she's taking as much time with the patients before me as she will me. I've never had such a compassionate, open minded doctor in all my years! She has returned phone calls in the evening and weekend to discuss results. We have had medical issues in our family with surgeries and extra needs and it is such a blessing to have them as a wonderful support. Hands down the worst customer service I've had with any medical practice. The good: medical staff are very good, no complaints, other than the usual wait times experienced in most medical offices. My family has always had a good experience. Very professional, caring, and thoughtful service. The bad: front office staff is very bad, unprofessional and dysfunctional. The check-in and waiting area is wide open with a view of most of the office staff, but with one receptionist. My family's experience has been long wait times to even be noticed/acknowledged by the receptionist, even though you are standing in front of them. Always seemed as though receiving the customer was a distraction to their other job. Zero eye contact throughout the checkin process. Takes your information, checks you in, points to where you should site, but doesn't offer any opportunity to ask question or offer corrections, all without ever looking up. No eye contact. Next, we've experience everything from snide/insulting comments and arguments between front office staff to full blown dressing down of one staff member of another, on multiple occasions, all in plain view of the waiting area. Next, rather than sending to a bill, like most business, they have a patient portal, where instead of getting notification via snail or email that you have a bill, you are supposed to check in regularly to see if you own anything. Not sure where to find this portal, or how to log in, maybe the receptionist is supposed to explain this at some point? And if you don't log into portal regularly to see if you own anything then you'll receive a snail or email demanding immediate payment on a past due amount. All without ever receiving an actual bill. When you can get the receptionists attention long enough to ask about the past due notice and lack of an actual bill, you're chastised for not logging into the patient portal more often to see if you owe anything. When we explained that we don't have access to the portal or a login, do not consent to such, and prefer to receive an actual bill for services (like a normal customer), the said they would print out a bill, but we would need to use the portal going forwards. Since when did providing personal customer services and treating the customer as the reason you're in business go out of style? Too many bad experience with this front office. Have since moved our entire family's business to another, more personal family practitioner down the road. Won't be back. read more

This is an update to my original review. Dr. Scheeler is the best. I had a negative review before but it was not in regard to her. If you can see her, it is worth it. I trust her 100%, she is kind, thoroughly cares about my life. She is funny. A really great doctor. I have seen her for about 10 years. I have had bad experiences with the PA's. This was my old review about the PA, because I truly needed help: "She was dismissive of my ideas of what was going on with my pain, she had awful bedside manner, she didn't even spend the full 15 min talking to me. She was quick to prescribe medication without getting a good history and understanding of my condition. She basically told me "go find out somewhere else", so I went to another doctor who helped me figure out what was going on. It was my original idea that I had brought up to the PA and she dismissed." I did however get a bill for over $ 200 for literally 10 minutes top with Dr Ringle. This company is proving to be be everything wrong with the medical community. They are literally just trying to get as many office visits and charges to clients through co-pay and charging the insurance companies to line their pockets. Dr. Scheeler is my primary care doctor and she is absolutely amazing. But I've been going to Piñon for 9 years now and will be finding a new office on Monday morning because of Dr. Quick. Other members of my family have had issues with his extremely condescending and rude demeanor, but tonight I just dealt with that jerk for the first time. He's the on call physician tonight. I'm sick and need medication refilled that my pharmacy for SOME REASON (that is the offices fault, not mine) doesn't have a refill for. I called the on call number. The operator said Dr Quick would call me back. My phone was on silent and I missed the call - my phone told me I had a voicemail, but it never came through. I called the phone number back, assuming and hoping it was Dr Quick because I need this medicine. I left a voicemail apologizing that the voicemail hadn't come through, so I don't know who it was. He calls me back a few minutes later, I apologize again for my phone messing up and told him I did not know what the voicemail said. He said in an extremely extremely rude and incredibly condescending tone: "It said that you need to answer your phone. And I don't appreciate calls to my personal phone." I was in shock. I told him if he was going to be so rude, I would find another office and doctor to help me. I told him I didn't know what the voicemail said. He continued being an absolute jerk. I can't even make this up. This is supposed to be a DOCTOR that CARES about people? I'm one of the nicest patients I bet this office has. I told him I would find a new office if he was going to be so rude, then got off the phone and bawled. I'm SICK and now will wait until Monday rather than deal with that human again. And I WILL be finding a new office which crushes me because I love Dr Scheeler and I love Trista but I can't go to an office that lets their doctors talk to their patients like that. I explained I didn't get the voicemail - maybe the voicemail told me to call a different phone number back, I don't know. I apologized several times. I have never met someone so rude and full of themselves, much less a doctor that is supposed to be compassionate. I just... I'm in shock. Piñon - you have amazing employees but I KNOW I am not the only one that has had issues with this incredibly rude man. If you care about your patients, his attitude and the way he talks to people would have been addressed. It's unacceptable and I will not be talked to like that by some old man, when I am profusely apologizing. Or talked to like that at all. He needs to be sent through personal relations classes, or better yet he needs to retire and your patient satisfaction would be higher. I am sick, needing help, and that's how he chooses to handle it and talk to me? It's a joke he's a doctor. Thank you Dr Scheeler & Trista for everything. read more
