The teachers are nurturing, calm, and really care about the kids. The children are kind to each other and learn responsibility. My daughter is reading already, and she knows more about animals and geography and the solar system than I do! I can not recommend this school highly enough. If you want a school that you can just brag about your kids going to, this is it. The only thing you're paying for is the beautiful campus and the small class size, which sells themselves. The teachers here are old and need to retire, like most schools. There's nothing special about the faculty here, or the administrators, which are far from lacking. Bullying still goes on at this school, kids with different ethnic background also made fun of, and the sense of entitlement the kids have with each other in older grades is unheard of. It's surprising after 100 years of running a school? How they still don't have it together. If you like to be fed a bunch of bullshit from a PR company, who writes emails about wonderful the school is, when they can't seem to keep it together internally, this is the school for you. You'll also need a back up nanny if you work, because the kids have off more days then you can count. Also, with the location the power goes out a lot and they do NOT have a back up generator. Safety? They rely on the police offer looking for lost cars in the drive way. They don't even call you if you don't show up to pick your kid, they put them in the afterschool program and hope you show up. Several times the faculty never responds to messages. Our children's teachers have many times seemed like they care about anything related to our children's teachers. One even told me in a parent teacher conference she was counting down the days until the break came!! Don't waste your money or be lured in by the pretty setting, it comes with problems.

Which sounds great. But if someone in your family receives a mental health diagnosis and you go to any of the pastors for help or prayer, they will essentially shun you or faze you out. All of those "connections" you have made, and any monetary contributions you give to the church won't matter because in their eyes, they have to protect their "brand". Your "friends" won't view you the same once this information get's out. There isn't support for this situation in CVC church. My family had to learn the hard way. It caused a lot of hurt. This church runs on how you present yourself and your family as well as how other people that attend this church perceive you. The church doesn't want acknowledge this type of situation. They want to avoid anything that may seem heavy or messy to them. This church thrives on fitting the mold. The "perfect" families, attendance, opportunities to get involved. This is intentional. My family, they are good people, who did everything "right" in the churches eyes, until they came for help. I wouldn't wish any of what we went through on someone else. I've kept quiet for a long time on this topic. I just feel that it is important for people to understand what we didn't.

While I acknowledge…read morethat many teachers and administrators have changed, I can only speak to my own personal experiences, I would be remiss if I did not share my story. Years K-6th were broadly excellent. A warm, caring environment with excellent educators. Mrs. Blatnik, White, Chin, and Mr. Goober were extremely positive influences in those formative years, and I have nothing but gratitude for them. All issues arose during grade 7 during my brief tenure in the (then very young) middle school program during its second year in operation. I spent my entire childhood with undiagnosed autism; I don't blame the school for this, detection and treatment was far less robust then than it was now. I do blame to school for the resultant bullying that I endured that year, and what I perceived as the cause. The middle school, especially in its pilot years, was intent on making a big show of its success placements. There was a lot of parading around the kids who were being accepted into 'elite' high schools like Western Reserve Academy, Walsh Jesuit, or a handful of others. They were clearly trying to position the middle school as a funnel of sorts to these programs. Of course, with these elite programs came elite tuition costs, and I'll just say that my family was not prepared to shell out for one of these programs. Moreover, I had no personal interest in boarding schools, religious schools, or really any of these programs. I distinctly remember Ms. Ludick's reaction at the parent teacher night when this info was brought to light. She was aghast and, dare I say, offended at the idea. Almost overnight, the atmosphere shifted. My grades took a sharp hit almost immediately. I became the target for relentless bullying from students who were already on the so called 'elite' track. It was daily, it was constant, and I was chastised when I withdrew like a turtle into its shell. And while I admit my autistic tendencies made me internalize a lot more than I should have, the rampant bullying was apparent to all, that year, including the staff. There were other students who noticed. Nothing was done. Suffice to say, there was an incident that spring where I was pushed to breaking point, and I was removed for my own safety. It is also worth noting that once I was gone, one of my good friends became the new target, for largely similar reasons. The staff knew. The staff even aided and abetted the bullies, many of whom were among the wealthier families in the program that the admins would cozy up to. The message was clear: I was not worth the investment, boasted no ambitions for them to advertise in the future, and as such was cut loose. "Open Season." I have had many years of growth and therapy to digest what happened then. I wouldn't be writing this at all if I hadn't seen some social media videos featuring alumni testimonies, and see several of the bullies being plastered up as Star Student advertisements. With the small number of reviews here, I don't expect this to gain much traction. And, as I said, many years have passed since 2007, and I cannot speak to how things have changed. All I can do is share what happened to me, and if it happens to help even one person down the road, that's enough for me.

I was able to independently explore my passion for math and develop a ton of practical life skills at the same time. It helped me be successful at WRA and later Brown University before becoming a high school math and computer science teacher myself. I still use a lot of Montessori philosophy in my job today. I just wish I'd understood that plenty of local schools are so much better. Ignatius routinely employs uncertified alumni with little experience. Two teachers and a coach were emotionally and psychologically abusive. I was a year younger than all the other students which doesn't help in this toxic environment. Homophobia and racism are endemic. Zero science during freshman year, zero opportunity to socialize with girls. Ignatius now offers a health science mentoring and internship program, probably because they noticed very few of us smarties were prepared for medical studies. They had to improve their game given the exhorbitant tuition and inferior curriculum compared to good public schools in the area that have four years of science, superior arts programs, healthier culture and don't subject young boys to four years of mandatory religious indoctrination. They actually told us there was zero networking for medical school. It seems like efforts were made to improve, but I would never send my son's here or indeed to any "Catholic" school after my experience. If your parents hold you back a year or two in one of the local "Catholic" grade schools, play football and the administration will shepherd you with better instructors and manipulate your record to improve your GPA.
