We recently moved to Germantown and wanted to try the Richfield location. We waited an hour to be seated, but it was fine as we sat at the bar that had over 400 whiskey's. My husband is a whiskey drinker so he loved it. The service was very attentive both at the bar and when we had dinner. We split cauliflower for an app, I had the baked cod, my husband had the cod sandwich and all were good. We will be back as this was a fun place!

I got the Manhattan off their specialty menu and my husband got their autumn barrel Manhattan. After trying both--highly recommend the one off their specialty menu. It was definitely superior quality. It's served over a block of ice so if you want it up, you may want to mention that when ordering. It tasted more like a classic old fashioned than a Manhattan but I'm not complaining because I love classic bourbon old fashioned cocktails as well. For a starter we got their much raved about bang bang shrimp. It came on a bed of greens and was good! For my dinner I got their seasonal chicken and dumpling soup and a side salad. Both were solid. The salad was definitely more ample than I was expecting. My husband got some sort of salmon alfredo pasta dish that came with roasted asparagus mixed in. I had a bite and he ordered well--it was decadently buttery and delicious. The service was super kind throughout our stay. Our server checked in on us regularly without being overbearing. Get to it!

This was at lunchtime when it wasn't very busy at all. I started to think they had actually forgotten about the order. There was also a pesky fly that just wouldn't go away. When the food came, it was pretty good. The thin crust pizza was very tasty and loaded with toppings. And the Greek salad, which came well after the pizza, was great. Fresh lettuce, Kalamata olives, tomato, feta and abundant Greek dressing on the side. We ordered the $4.95 protein-shrimp on top. Asked for them grilled and they came out beautifully. Correctly grilled and tasty. Large jumbo shrimp, a whopping 9 of them on top of a small salad. I'm guessing they may have been frozen, which is why it took so long to make the food. And perhaps they gave us extra since we waited so long. But the add on process is the same for either a small or large salad, so that could play a role. Overall, the food was tasty but the wait for it (despite ordering almost immediately upon being seated) was very long. Don't risk it if you're in a rush to get back to work! Will give it another try when we have much time to spare.

I ordered a cheese burger with an extra patty and sour cream & chive fries, my wife got a cheeseburger with tater tots, my oldest kid got a cheeseburger with regular fries, and my youngest got a grilled cheese with regular fries. We also got cheese sticks and six wings with Jamaican jerk sauce. The cheese sticks weren't huge, but we got eight in the order. The cheese was on the sharp side, so clearly not mozzarella. They were fine, but not my favorite. I vastly prefer rub to sauce on wings, but I'm a sucker for Jamaican jerk flavor so I wanted to try them anyway. There was plenty of heat and some Jamaican jerk flavor, but like the cheese sticks, they weren't my favorite. I wouldn't get this flavor again if I get the wings again at all. The kids grilled cheese looks like it was a good size. He ate it without complaints. The tater tots, sour cream & chive fries, and regular fries were all good. The regular fries seemed like they might have been lightly battered and were my preference of the three. We all thought the burgers were great. The patties seemed like they were hand formed and not out of a frozen box, which is very appreciated. I thought the seasoning tasted like McCormick Montreal steak seasoning, which is fine in small amounts, but can overpower a burger real quick if overseasoned. The Monday deal is $4 for a quarter pound burger and you can add a side for $4 more. Make sure you specify that when you order and don't just say "a cheeseburger with fries" because they will charge you the regular menu price for a larger burger with fries. My wife and oldest son didn't think to specify the $4 burger and the server didn't clarify which size they wanted, so we didn't discover the mix up until we got the bill and it was $10 more than expected. They were able to adjust it for us, so it all worked out in the end. I look forward to coming again on Mondays for the $4 burger deal and checking out their other menu items and specials, especially the Friday fish fry.

Of the…read moreoptions nearby that I either hadn't been to before or hadn't been to in a long time, Sawmill Inn was the most appealing given its proximity to Germantown. I got the Head Sawyer (steak, eggs, and hash browns) with the double tenderloin option, one kid got chicken strips with fries, and the other got a kids pizza. We also shared a piece of coffee cake. I don't think my youngest was super enthused by his pizza, mostly because it's not memorable to him. My oldest liked his chicken strips and fries, but I don't know if he's come across chicken strips and fries that he doesn't like, so take that with a grain of salt. The hash browns were ok. They were just fried potato with no other flavor or add-in like onions. I added salt and pepper because they needed it. I got American cheese on the scrambled eggs and they were as you'd expect. The tenderloin was fine. Obviously not as good of a cut as New York strip or ribeye would have been. I ended up sharing a portion of it with my oldest and he ate it without complaints too. The star of our visit was the coffee cake. It was warm and soft and in every sense perfect. Sharing is carrying and I'm fine sharing with my kids most of the time, but man, I wish it had been all for me.

I love the combination of perch and Italian breading. That style of breading is a perfect compliment to the flavor of the perch and I wish more places would make theirs similarly. Sadly, the cod was very wet so the breading fell apart and it wasn't as beneficial as it was on the perch. The potato pancakes were almost too dense and, as you can see from the picture I posted, were not cooked on the bottom at all. I've had far better potato pancakes elsewhere and wouldn't get theirs again. Both of the kids liked their dinners. The only thing I noticed that was off was the grilled cheese was toasted enough to brown the bread and melt the cheese on the edges, but none of the cheese inside was melted. Minor, but notable. My wife thought the wrap had a very generous amount of meat, cheese, and lettuce. She appreciated that it was romaine lettuce, not iceberg, and that the ranch was sparce instead of excessive as that let the other flavors shine instead of being overpowered. The gentleman behind the bar who brought our food out and handled our bill was friendly. I did notice, though, that none of the staff was wearing masks and there were a few groups of people close to each other at the bar, so social distancing probably isn't something they're taking too seriously for those who are worried about the COVID-19 situation.

Food: We ordered the Gyro Wrap, Bacon Cheeseburger, and a side of Sweet Potato Fries. The cheeseburger was very good, although the bacon was a bit dry and overcooked. The sweet potato fries were also good, arriving hot and flavorful. The Gyro Wrap was a bit disappointing. The meat looked like thin slices that had been thawed out and overcooked. On the positive side, the prices were very reasonable. Service: The bartender was very friendly, greeting us as we entered and getting us settled at the bar. She was also the cook and was doing her best to keep drinks filled while preparing food orders. The place became busier after we arrived, and one of the regulars actually jumped behind the bar to act as "Johnny-on-the-spot." How's that for customer loyalty? Apparently, everyone there comes to drink. I ordered a tonic with lime, and the bartender must have heard "tonic" and assumed I wanted a gin and tonic. This happened twice in a row. It was more amusing than upsetting. Atmosphere: The place is a typical small lake bar and grill. The décor is rustic and unpretentious. Regulars are greeted by their first names, and strangers seem to have no hesitation about getting to know their barmates. There is a nice view of the lake just across the road. Unfortunately, when you're sitting at the bar, that view is behind you. I'd like to stop back and try the Prime Rib Sandwich, which came highly recommended by the bartender.

It wasn't until recently when they started to actively promote themselves on social media that I thought of them before others as a place to try. I called in an order of fried haddock with potato pancakes and mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. I also ordered an extra piece of haddock. The food was ok. The the mozzarella sticks looked homemade but the potato pancakes did not. It weirded me out that the haddock was in little pieces instead of traditional sized pieces. The breading didn't have much flavor, which was a shame given how much fish there was. When I asked for the extra piece of fish, I was told by the person that answered the phone that they didn't know the cost as they were just helping out that night. I (unfortunately) didn't press for an answer because extra pieces at other restaurants are typically close to $3 and I was ok with something in that ballpark. To my utter shock, the bill showed the extra piece (or pieces) was an outrageous $9. Never in my wildest dreams would I pay $9 for an extra piece of fish, especially when the haddock dinner itself was only $11. I should have refused the extra piece when I found out or just left without any of the food, but sadly I didn't. It also would have been nice had they waited to make the extra piece(s) until I got there and could inform me that it was $9. I absolutely would have said no thanks at that point. Note, EJ's is cash only. They do have an ATM, but I don't know what the fees are for using it.

They acknowledged the mistake, apologized, and comped our drinks. Atmosphere: They now have outdoor entertainment every evening, and there is plenty of seating to choose from. The traffic around the roundabout intersection can get noisy, but I think they simply turn up the volume to compensate. A good spot for smoked meats and other sandwiches.
