Fun pre-bar. Simple drinks and rock n roll atmosphere. They have a punching bag machine and regulars like to keep it noisy by giving it a whack every hour or so. Had a glass thrown at me and the bartender didn't even throw out the patron who threw it. I love a rowdy spot but aside from me and my brother he was the only other patron. This is my kind of place. The double IPA was lovely. The World Cup was on, Portugal vs Ghana. Other customers were fully engaged in the game, vocal and rowdy. It's a safe harbor against the sea of sanitized consumerism and bullshit outside the door. Thank you for what you do! read more

Weird place, might be some kind of cult bar or something as everybody wears the same shirt and has shaved heads. Not sure though. They have slots which are fun. The bartenders didn't know how to make a Long Island which is a basic mixed drink. Overall kinda sketchy vibe. read more

Decent beer selection with a few things on tap plus a full bar. There's some video gambling and even a claw machine flanking a comfy high top booth. Upstairs there's a pool table though it was closed for the band. They play terrible music perhaps to convince you to feed the jukebox (fortunately someone finally did!). Piranha Bar, Montreal In retrospect, the name "Piranha" is very telling, but at the time we didn't know it was meant as a warning to unsuspecting tourists. Gentle reader, consider yourself forewarned: Do not set a foot in this place if you don't want to be separated from your money and left with nearly nothing, faster than a piranha separates the flesh from the bone. This is what happened to us. My husband and I were visiting the lovely city of Montreal. It was our last night and we still had a lot of Canadian money to spend. We decided to pour it into the local economy in exchange for a few drinks poured to us. In short, we were looking for a bar. We saw Piranha bar - it had a hockey game on TV and a Foosball table upfront. We thought, "This will do." We went in with the intent to park there until we spent our last dollar. The bartender looked a bit ditsy, and there were only 2 outer customers at the bar, but that didn't deter us, because we were on a mission to have a good time. Wasting no time we asked for the menu and ordered drinks - my husband ordered a beer; I ordered Gray Goose vodka with cranberry juice. While ordering drinks we realized the bartender didn't speak English. That wouldn't have been strange, if we were let's say, in a little village in the French Alps, but we were in downtown Montreal, at the most touristy place one could imagine. Every single person we met in Montreal was fully bilingual - random people on the street, bus drivers, construction workers, street musicians, they all spoke English and French, and some people spoke a few other languages in addition. The bartender however, NOPE!, she didn't speak a word of English. English is my second language too, and I speak a bit of French - the lack of language skills was not the problem. The problem was what the bartender did next. She took a glass, filled it with ice, grabbed a well gun and poured some water in the glass, then grabbed another well gun and topped it with red juice, then served it to me. Are you paying attention? Nothing, nothing came out of a bottle. I am thinking, "OK, she watered down my cranberry juice, but I'll let it slide, as long as she doesn't water down my Gray Goose." So, I wait, and wait, and wait. The shot doesn't arrive. Instead, a bill is placed in front of me. I think, "Perhaps she forgot to bring me the shot. Perhaps, she didn't understand what I had ordered." On the bill - Vodka - Gray Goose: $10, Cranberry juice: $3,20 + the beer. She didn't forget to charge me for the vodka! I waived to get her attention and asked: "What happened to the vodka? You forgot to give me the shot." She pointed at my glass. I said, "There is no vodka in there, you were supposed to give me a shot of Gray Goose," I taped the $10 on the bill. She shrugged and left. Five minutes later, she came back with a security guard. "Good," I thought, "Finally somebody who speaks English." I told him what happened. He stick a straw into my drink, tasted it and said: "Yes, there is vodka in there. I don't even drink vodka, but I know there is vodka in there." I disagreed: "There is no vodka there, I watched her make the drink, and she didn't pour any vodka into my glass. Plus, according to the bill, she is charging me separately for the shot and the cranberry juice. Do you see a shot glass here?" He asked her in French: "Did you put any vodka in her drink?" She nodded. He ponied at the well gun and said: "We are not allowed to pour more than 30 ml of alcohol." "30 ml? I didn't get anything! Plus, Gray Goose comes out of a bottle, not a well!" "Give her a dollar back", he told the bartender, and went to play pool. Case closed! So that's how things are at Piranha bar, in downtown Montreal. They are very strict when it comes to paying your bill, as far as serving you drinks, that's optional. We left in search of a better place to spend our money at. read more

For some reason I like this bar. I travel to MTL several times a year for mini-vacas. I've never had good service, the bartenders are surly. All, less one who was quite fun and enjoyable but she left to teach dance. But I love the atmosphere. It's a biker bar minus the bikers. I have a high tolerance for unhappy waitstaff bc I used to be one. So I get it. but this place is right on the strip. Loud music, videos playing. gambling machines, pool tables. You must be patient for drinks but I find that's the norm in MTL. Usually it's the other customers that make this place fun. Seems like they're industry ppl and I love that. read more

The first place we visited coming to Montreal for drinks. The waitress Emily didn't know how to make some drinks on the menu which was fine but when she made our sex on the beach her proportions were off and it was mainly juice. We tipped regardless. When we came back and asked to more alcohol to level it out she charged another cost of a drink, and barely added any more. Then, when we didn't tip the second time since it was the same order, she blatantly said we are supposed to tip and was rude about it. First of all we walk in and there's two men doing cocaine in plain view on the bar, A bartender named Sarah served us at the bar, at first thought she was great, she told us she was intoxicated though, she tried hard to speak to us in English , gave us everything we asked for, but we asked for a tab , but she said we only had 15 minutes left , not realizing what that meant , we thought she meant happy hour , so we just accepted what she said so with every drink she billed us and we tipped 30% & with every receipt, we tipped over 48$ out of pocket, she gave us a separate bill with every drink we ordered, witch is way over 20% at the end she felt the need to speak French to the native regulars how we tipped her 5$ on a 100$ bill and they came over to us and told us what she said , we tried to call her over and clear things up but she clearly ignored us. Witch made us fear as we left the bar that we'd bed followed, ive never been so uncomfortable in my entire life, if your from America do not go to this bar !!! I would love a call from management to explain what we did wrong , because I simply do not understand , every bill given to us for each drink I tipped over 20% is love to know we're my money went since sarah made it seem like it didn't go to her , and why she tried to cause such a uproar. Was visiting Montreal this week , was walking on st Catherine's street , seen a sign saying they had vlt's, walked in super friendly staff , cheap beer and good music . The waitress with the purple hair bought my girlfriend and I a shot was super talkative and helpful telling us sites to visit . Two thumbs up!! read more

One of the first bars that you pass when you hit the strip on Saint Catherine. Dropped in on a random Thursday around 2pm while visiting Montreal for a bachelor party. Boy were we in for a TREAT! Vera our bartender hosted us and kept our livers happy. They had cheap shot and beer specials. Our party had so much fun. We met one of the owners Ravi and he is awesome as well. Very welcoming he bought us a few rounds and had a grand ol time with us. There is a foosball table in the back and some slots machines. You can order food and they will bring it from the restaurant downstairs. We had some poutine to satisfy our munchies. We didn't get a chance to come back at night for a party, heard it was supposed to be popping and I wouldn't be surprised. This place is a must if you are looking to TURN UP! read more

The Piranha was my absolute favorite part of my trip to Montreal. The bartender Morgan is #lit 100 emoji, so much fun, felt like I've know her my whole life after 5 minutes. My friend actually won at the claw machine. The AC is like the arctic which is nice cause everywhere else is sweaty af. Cheap shots, cheap drinks, cheap pitchers, good music. We came here 3 separate times in one day. 12.8/10 would get hammered here again. My only recommendation is maybe don't have a bath mat in the bathroom cause it smells rank. That being said, the quality of paper towels in the bathroom exceeded all my wildest dreams. It was like drying your hands on a super durable kitten. read more

Not tourist friendly. Walked in with boyfriend only about 5 or 6 people in there, clearly locals. Waitress at the bar got us our first drinks, never came back to check on us, but clearly saw that we were finished our drinks. Ignored me standing at the bar in front of her for probably a half an hour with my coat on and money out clearly wanting to pay for my tab. Bar is weirdly set up with barely any tables, no friendly smiles, nothing. Didn't see a paranha just goldfish. Guy that was doing Kareoke yelled some comment to us as we were walking out the door. Cool place, has some good bands preform. Nicely decorated but it is sad to see the gambling addicts at the slots in the back. If you can ignore those who couldn't afford the bus/taxi fare to the Montreal Casino (thus using the slots) you will have a great time! read more
