I came here to support a friend who does stand up comedy. As for the comedy, it was actually a pretty good show. Most of the comedians are up and coming or starting to perform for their first few times. As for the actual bar, it could use some updating. It did not feel so clean inside and was quite dark upon entry of the venue. Not sure why this was, as when I arrived, they were getting ready for the stand up comedy show. If they focused on cleaning this place up and making it more appealing, then I would probably add another star to the review. read more

This place is the epitome of a cool dive bar. Most nights get busy at around midnight or one. Every night is fun here, from the free keg on Sunday to the free grilled cheese sandwiches on Thursday, or Karaoke on Wednesday. The crowd is young and urban, but not pretentious. Usually, just a bunch of Montreal cool kids that want to get drunk and dance. My favorite part, and the reason Blue Dog gets 5 stars, is that they have a really old Nintendo in the front that has Super Mario Bros. 3 in it for you to play. How awesome! Getting drunk and playing Nintendo and then dancing your butt off, nothing can beat that!!! ps. The bathrooms are scary, deal with it. read more

When we went, it wasn't as fratty as the photos show, but it was more hood I would say. They were playing mixes of hip hop songs (fun songs, but not 100% Top 40 hip hop type stuff). Very dancey for sure. They close at 3 but they didn't really ever kick us out. Music jamming until 3:45 or so. Cash only. read more

It´s a nice, cute little place with funky decor, I found myself in on Saturday night. The service is friendly and polite, the music is great and the beer is cold. I must be honest, as much as this is a cool place, I'm into more of the lounge/intimate types of bars. However, I can see other people enjoying a drink or two or dancing with friends there, that's why I'm giving it a four stars rating. read more

The Blue Dog was one of the highlights of my trip to Montreal. My best friend and I stayed for a weekend in Canada, about fifteen minutes from this awesome find. Blue Dog has a very unique and alternative vibe. The drinks are cheap (possibly free if you're cool enough), the music is loud and up to date, and the crowd is rowdy and exciting: just how it should be. The bathrooms can get a little gross, but I don't have incredibly high expectations for a small dive bar run by just one guy. Watching the owner run around the place while trying to keep an eye on the workers, bathroom, and customers is fascinating. Props to Bruno for keeping his bar in good shape while maintaining an awesome place for some fun, drunken night life! My friends and I wish we were back there pretty much every weekend. If any of you stop by, look for the dude with the septum piercing behind the bar (Bruno). Definitely the chillest guy I met in Montreal! Will definitely be back the second we're back in Canada. read more

I didn't like it because this isn't my type of place. But I'm giving it three stars because a lot of people would like this place. It is kind of grunge-y - has that laid back 'cool' vibe for people that are 'chill' and want to listen to decent music - which is played there. The front is like a room with a bed and a sofa in the window. Kind of in blue light. I guess because it is called Blue Dog. The bathroom is gross. But if you can look past that, it is an ok place to hang out if you are feeling grunge-y. read more

My girlfriends and I came to Montreal for the weekend and didn't really know where to go so we started looking through bars and stumbled across this. The bar itself is cool, nice quaint vibe and the DJ was awesome too. The bartender, Pamela, was so nice! She really helped us out & knocked us on our asses haha. You can't go wrong with Bluedog on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, or Wednesday... Monday is a little dead. Seriously though, from grilled cheese sandwiches every Thursday night to a free keg every Sunday starting at 10, this place truly gives back to the customers. The music is very dope (mostly electro), but what else would you expect from a bar owned by the Team Canada DJs (Grand Theft and DR 1). The main problem with this place is that I've gotten so comfortable with it that I rarely go anywhere else (does that bias show a little?) Anyway, definitely a safe bet for a good night. read more

Bar Blue Dog is a must-stop when visiting Montreal. Anything goes, all of the time. It was not a special night and yet a man was standing on benches, dancing, wearing a zebra mask. A girl dressed straight out of the 50s. NBD. Getting in is quick and the coat check girl was a sweetheart. You don't feel obligated to tip her (on a $1.50 charge per coat) but you WANT to and so you do. Inside was a really talented DJ that from my understanding people follow to whatever bar he plays at. Wish I got the name. While the space is medium-sized, it is packed to its gills which just invites more people to dance on the benches. I like. The bartenders were speedy and the drinks were your standards. A server once got my drink order wrong but was SO nice when she realized her mistake. Not blasé, like one could think this place could be. She offered to bring another drink, which I declined (vodka cranberry to rum and coke, whateva), and gave a discount. Everybody wins! And everybody won that Saturday night in Montreal. From dancing around, to sitting down, meeting new and interesting people- life is good at Blue Dog. read more

This place is where it's at! Gets crowded but the crowd is fun and they dance on the small dance floor in the back. The music is nostalgic from the 90s no joke they played "no scrubs" by TLC The environment is relaxed, good to sit and talk. Beer not too cheap but not too expensive. And you can play duck hunt on an old Nintendo system. Go if your looking to have fun in a good atmosphere. read more

I visited from New Jersey and they played the type of music you'd hear at Hoboken or Jersey City bars (for those from this area that are looking for the same kind of feel). Ratchet and bumpin. A little small but was awesome if you're into the hip hop/club vibe on the weekends. Not too long a line and drink deals were great! This place is awesome! They have buy one get one specials on all drinks before midnight, and there isn't a cover until about 11:30. We showed up around 10:30 and downed a bunch of drinks since they were BOGO and inexpensive on their own. The music was awesome, as was the vibe. Three of us went here on NYE and it was pretty dead when we arrived, although, it was fairly early. We paid the $10 entrance fee and waited about half an hour but only three other people showed up and they were much older (we are all 18). Music was very electric and not great for dancing plus there was not much space even if you did dance. Oh, and the bathrooms have no doors lol. Staff were friendly but I wouldn't recommend for the younger demographic, definitely more of a bar than a club experience. read more

I first forgot my ID at home and instead of turning me away, the bouncer let me in which was cool. Cheap and strong drinks and nice for a dive bar. 4 jager bombs for $15, jack and cokes for $7, shots of tequila for $6. The bartenders were nice, chill, and all seemed really young. Def a good spot to get the night started. Not sure about spending the whole night here cause I ended up leaving early but I wouldn't doubt a good time here. This is how I like to party. Loud dancey music, crazy cheap drinks, good vibes and a good time. I recently visited this place on my last trip to Montreal and was very impressed. Got there around 11:30 ish and we were able to sit at the bar, but soon after it got packed. It seems like groups of people come and go in waves so it's really crowded and 5 minutes later it isn't so bad. I'll be back next summer to party like a rockstar. read more

Apparently this is a staple dive-type bar in Montreal. It's not totally my scene, but my cousin has taken me here a few times and it seems like a good intimate bar to start getting sloppy after midnight. It seems like the crowd is kinda cool and hipster, and it's not expensive so a good place for a few drink. I was in Montreal for a girls weekend and we saw the great reviews on yelp and decided to give Blue Dog a try. This was the worst idea we have ever had. Let me start with the bathroom. This was the worst bathroom I have ever been in. And I've been in a lot of bathrooms. Not only did I stumble into the men's restroom because there were no signs indicating which was which, neither of the bathrooms had toilet paper. The bathrooms were spacious enough for creepy hook ups, but small enough that they only fit one person. The grime and puddles of questionable substances and broken glass made squatting even more unpleasant. Upon entering the dance floor, there was a ring of sketchy, questionably intentioned men. One degenerate to note was watching my friends and I dance while rubbing his hands together in a notion that appeared as if he was preparing for thanksgiving dinner. He licked his hands as he began to make his move and grab my ass. As I turned to move away, I could hear comments like, "my jacket just got stolen from here", and "let's go get molly from that drug dealer outside". Just as I am starting to wonder why I paid $5 for this torture, a fight breaks out on the dance floor. Men appear fighting over a pool of disinterested women. At this point, we decided the bar fell short of its yelp reviews and we hightailed out of the shittiest club in Canada. read more

I like dive bars and I like Blue Dog as a dive bar. I came here for a university event tonight and the DJ was good, despite being a little dated. The only thing I hated was when I accidentally paid my bartender double for a round of shots (she said $8, I thought she meant $8 each and didn't realize my mistake until after I'd given her $16 and promised to return with a tip) and she lied to my face about how much I'd paid ("You gave me like $10, so don't worry about a tip."). Would've worked if I'd been drunk, but I wasn't and I don't appreciate being lied to. Still, I'm not going to make a fuss in public. I ordered another round of shots to mask my annoyance, which I paid the correct price for, and then high tailed it out of there. I can stomach giving a 100% tip by mistake, that's my fault, but don't lie to me about it. Would have given 5 stars if the bartender had offered my correct change back. read more
