So we quickly looked to see if there was another option and this little gem popped up. 27 holes of mini golf all themed around Disney or fairy tales we all know and love. Not super hard BUT several holes had a special wheel to spin to add an extra to that hole. For example I got to move an opponent's ball to wherever I wanted to in bounds. My kids loved this and we would go back again and the people running it were very nice and attentive! Skip the commercialized mini golf place and head here!

There is plenty of parking available outside. The restrooms are very nice and clean. We visited the bar that is open to the public (until 11) and were impressed with our time there. The staff was very friendly. There are high top tables, shorter tables, comfy chairs and t.v.s to watch any sports games that are on. We enjoyed the atmosphere here and will stop here the next time that we are in town too.

I have fond memories of playing with my stepdaughters here during a pleasant evening sunset over a most enjoyable Labour Day weekend. The park itself features a shelter house, walking trail, 2 floating docks, approximately 500 feet of shoreline along East Lake Okoboji, basketball court, playground equipment, park benches, picnic tables, grills, and handicap-accessible restrooms.

The course conditions on the front weren't bad, but the experience completely falls apart when you realize you're paying full premium price for a course that isn't even playable as intended. For nearly a hundred bucks, golfers expect a finished course, not detours, torn-up fairways, and the feeling you're being overcharged. Right now it feels like they're cashing in while giving a half finished product. If you're thinking about playing in Okoboji, I'd suggest waiting until the back 9 is complete or checking out other local courses where your money goes further.

If you're looking for something outside the norm, check out the Scottish Links, the newest course at Brooks. The terrain is gorgeous and pretty different looking, with rolling hills and bent grass fairways. Personally, I like to hit a bucket of balls at the driving range rather than commit to 18 holes. :) I'm also fond of the red Brooks golf carts and a G&T at Bud's Pub after. FYI, Brooks is the only 4 1/2 Star Golf Digest rated course in the Lakes area. Brooks was also named one of the top 5 courses to play in Iowa by Golf Week Magazine. That might help explain why among my variety of interests, roller skating and bowling are high up the list of things that I like to do. Plus you haven't really lived until you've experience a wood burn (or 2) or participated in the "Promenade" group skate near the end of the session. Back in the Day, my Skateland was located at the Emmett County Fairgrounds, and its distinctive tent was only open part of the year. It was a Family operation, a interesting social scene, and a hot date venue (or so I was told). Roller skating has different feel than being on ice, and in both cases the balancing skills (and being able to do it backwards) stays with you. So do the memories of a simpler time.

We pay for this park through our tax dollars, why won't you want to keep it clean. The state doesn't have the staff or money to hire people to pickup after all the campers. When we pulled into site 56 I picked up a grocery sack of garbage and the fire pits had trash in it. Thanks to the De Jong family for not caring enough to clean up the site when you left.
