Came here with the family.. something small to do with the kids for spring break. The weather was not it that day. Wished it was a little warmer but it was still fun. The best part of pismo is us being able to go clamming. We get to dig for clams and keep them as long as it's a certain size. Whatever it says on Google lol. That's what we went with. And u can only get a certain amount. Anything that didn't fit, we buried them back in the sand. The kids had fun building sand castles. The seagulls is funny. Every time somebody had something they was going to eat, they would be around damn near begging lol. We seen a seal in the water and it was pretty close to us. We had a great time! read more

I've been coming here since I was a child. Now I bring my boys and they love it. It's not far from our home town so we frequent this beach regularly. Parking is always scarce if you don't get there early. They have swings and volleyball nets set up. There is a play area at the top near the pismo sign for the kids. They have plenty of restrooms and a couple clean off spots. There are lots of restaurants and clothing shops in walking distance. The beach is always crazy packed during summer.if you come during winter you'll have the whole place to yourself. It's a beautiful beach to relax at. read more

1000% I chose to visit Pismo Beach because of the Clueless quote, "I'm captain of the Pismo Beach disaster relief" while we were in San Luis Obispo for the weekend. To be very blunt, the town is rundown and most of the shops have an 80's/90's feel to them. Although the highlights of our trip were the restaurant Beachin Biscuits and the gift shop at Harmony House, the pier itself has seen better days. If you're passing through it's definitely worth a stop (if not just for the biscuits), but overall Pismo Beach could benefit from a large scale redesign with tourism and parking in mind. read more

We were extremely disappointed with Pismo Beach. The stores and the general area are rundown and quite unattractive. We had planned to have lunch here and instead turned around and went back to where we were staying instead. The pier is the one highlight. Fun to walk its length and read the historical plaques that are nicely exhibited and watch the folks fishing. read more

Beautiful Beach. Me and my girl stopped here around a week ago on the way to Solvang. If you haven't already seen my review for Splash Cafe, I highly recommend them if you want some good chowda. Might go with the experience heh. But yea not much that needs to be said. We got here before noon, got an early lunch and then just walked on the beach for an hour or so. There wasn't a lot of people there but you could tell they were coming in soon. Also did you know you can drive your car on the south side? You have to pay a fee but its kinda cool. read more

Nice out here on the Central Coast of California. Nice restaurants, hotels and motels here. You can also camp out here legally. Beach is clean with nice waves to surf on. Once in awhile be aware of sharks roaming around Pismo sometimes. All in all its a great beach. read more

We stopped by twice mid-morning on late September. There is a wide pier, without much retail during offseason, but enough space to hold a lot of food/entertainment options when there are more visitors. We saw people fishing in the morning. The beach is flat and deep (could definitely host beach volleyball tournaments), and the sand is fine and will blow into everything (though I wouldn't call it powder-like). It is also long, so a great place to walk/jog, or look for shells. We saw a lot of people walk their dog. There is plenty of parking, metered or with pay station. You can park for free a bit south of the center (Addie Street Surfer Parking Lot), if you don't mind walking a bit (though it is also directly across from the beach so a great place to park if you don't need to go to the pier). read more

What has happened to Pismo? My wife and I live in Santa Maria and I've been coming to Pismo Beach for the past 20 years. It seems now the most important thing for Pismo is to charge as much money as possible for parking with the way cost are in California. It seems Pismo is falling right in place with the California dream. Pismo help do something about this if you're just a few minutes late on your parking meter you get charged $80. It's ridiculous. The beach is certainly wide open and easy to stroll on the surf. It's also the most popular of the beaches on the Central Coast judging from the stop-and-go traffic and packed parking lots as you get closer. That was what Jamie W. and I discovered as we gradually made our way to the pier and the huge Pismo Beach sign where everyone gets their Instagram moment. Once on the beach, we were able to saunter with ease even as the surfers and kiddies would race back and forth on the surf. As we made our way to the northern end, huge rock formations flanked the beach and hid a school for aspiring kayakers. Great beach! We come back yearly since we enjoy it so much. What we love is this beach is clean and well kept. I have not seen litter every where like other beaches. I applaud the city for their upkeep and environmental efforts. Maybe citizens are helping out with keeping this beach clear of litter. Water is super cold as always but in the summertime people go swimming because it's sunny and hot. I think they use goats to help with the landscaping as we saw a goat chomping away at whatever edible plants grew along the shore. I like the pier and plaza with shops, restaurants and bathrooms for beach goers. Love the half dozen volleyball nets set up about 1/4 mi from the pier. If you walk to the right of the pier towards this huge Boulder on the beach, there are tide pools for with warm water for little kids to play in. Coming back next year for sure! read more

Pismo Beach is a beautiful beach to visit and is the perfect weekend getaway from the Bay Area as it is not too far or a long drive. The whole pier, boardwalk, and downtown area is in great shape. I thought it was well maintained, and Pismo is by far one of the cleanest beaches I've been to. The parking police are everywhere here, so make sure you always have money in the meter. The beach itself is beautiful. It was a tad windy and cold when I was there so nobody was on the sand itself, but I still got to enjoy the beautiful ocean views. read more

30 million times that I've been to Pismo Beach and I've have never given a review? What the heck!? I do love Pismo, BUT it is over visited now and seems to be the most crowded beach of all of California. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the occasional visit, but there is nothing new to see because you'll even run into the people you are trying to get away from in the first place!! Eeek!! Hey PISMO BEACH! I heard a lot about you and have passed by your area few times but I'm afraid we haven't met ;)) It's been really hot lately so I decided to intentionally see you then I fell in love with you! The beach, the little sleepy town and sunset here are just beautiful. When you become reduced to tears, twice, over such peaceful beauty, it leaves a lasting impression. That's what this place did. I think the relaxed vibe of the entire town, the cool ocean breeze and lots of great restaurants made me feel relaxed. There's a lot of great things to do here aside from sun bathing, surfing or camping, you can go rent an ATV for the afternoon and enjoy the clam chowder at Splash Cafe. Stayed at the Shore Cliff (great hotel), by the Sea so parking wasn't an issue you can walk down the stairs and enjoy the beach. The beach here is wide and clean and it's fun to watch the seals popping up randomly. I enjoyed hanging out at the amazing wide and long boardwalk. I watched guys trying to fish, surfers catching waves but more importantly the ocean and lovely sunset does not disappoint. Thanks Pismo beach I really had a great time. Really pretty beach! Was staying in SLO and going to Santa Monica so stopped by. Parking is a bit tricky, thankfully found street parking. Came on a Friday early afternoon, not too crowded but there were definitely people out and about, really beautiful water and mountains seen from the beach. Nice waves, lots of restaurants and such around the area too. Definitely worth a stop! read more

Oh for one you guys could not charge so much for your parking if you guys charged affordable parking more people would come and more people would be able to enjoy but five dollars an hour at a parking meter. That is a joke believe it or not if I had a choice I would rather drive to Avila Beach. I know it's a little bit further away but oh well it's so much nicer. It's not as crowded and the parking there is a lot more affordable than Pismo Beach Pizmo beach you guys charge so much Park and get you guys one over your budget for the pier and you guys decided to do it right before Covid happened and then when Covid hit you guys were delayed and you guys are still paying that off and it still is not worth walking on. People still bring their dogs on it even though you guys have signs, there's no dogs allowed people still bring their dogs on it. But my main thing is you guys have very limited parking, but you guys will have people pay five dollars an hour just a park or even better you guys will also have people pay $40 for eight hours for a parking that is a joke read more

For me, its a whole different and preferable experience entering from Monarch Butterfly Grove and walking through the Eucalyptus tree path than entering from near the pier. read more

I've only been here once but I really liked it. It's such a beautiful beach and if you come early you can definitely catch surfers catching waves. I'm into photography and i was able to get some cool shots of the surfers. I definitely will come back. There's also a lot to do here. On the entrance you see various restaurants and seafood places. It's definitely a must to each clam chowder. It was recommended to me by locals. However I stopped by early in the morning on my way north on a road trip so unfortunately I did get to try it. I will come back and visit because this beach has a lot to offer in terms of food and shops. read more

Re: Yesterday's Avila/Pismo Major Fire, June 15, 2020...with helicopters still in the air today. Much improved here, so far. Thank heavens. Copy of post for my neighbors on NextDoor: "A Good Samaritan & I both fought & put out ember wind carried fires between two Shell Beach front Condos behind mine. It was quite serious with several flaming areas. Flames at one point at least 5 feet high & even melted a potted plant pot. Both condos had fires starting on the fence near the gas line on one & the corner of the other building. The dead tree in front on SB road also had a fire spot that refused to go out. It took me about four hours, but I wetted down, whatever I could between the firehouse & the corner at Seacliff. Thank heavens for put me there then & somehow had then strength & stubbornness to fight it. There was no doubt that it would have taken out many buildings. My place would have been lost and it could have jumped Coburn too. Almost all SB road Condo neighbors were not in and few were home on Coburn side. I have contacted the Fire Dept to monitor and they taped the burnt areas. I will also promptly contact my HOA & others to removed dead trees, leaves, and garden bark. Was too busy with this to notice nor see what else was going on. KSBY briefly interview me in my firefighting "pajamas". Thank god we are safe! Here are some pictures of burnt areas. Please check your entire property for potential wind carried embers! I hope you are all safe. Some evacuated! It was quite terrifying! Never seen nor experienced anything like it. Had significant smoke inhalation & had mud, ash, & water all over me....but I am OK. Finally have time to post this since I was at it since many hours ago. We need a better system. Still we are blessed to be alive and still have our area buildings intact. It will take me a while to recover, since I have tons of health issues, like Neuropathy. Somehow god gave me the strength to do what I thought was needed. Maybe I was foolish, & almost ran at one point, but keep at it anyway. Came so close to evacuating.... good heavens. Really puts things in perspective when lives are on the line. Thank heaven for that unknown good samaritan who also helped for awhile. Beach in California's Central Coast Pismo is a beautiful city by the beach where one can take a stroll on the pier and/or relax at one of the benches. We did that 7 years ago when hubby took me there for the first time [Aug 2011]. After having fish and chips dinner at Alex Bar-B-Q on Shell Beach Rd (now closed down), we strolled on the Pier and sat on a bench chillin out maxin' relaxin' all cool. We watched the sun go down from a popular gazebo... can't remember where that was now. Then we came back to the beach again the next day! Lots of surfers that Sunday and this time we walked on the beach. Fast forward to Spring 2018. Pismo Pier is under reconstruction and the streets are limited with small walkways for pedestrians. This wooden pier is closed to the public during construction and will reopen in May 2019. Btw, do you want to own a piece of this historic pier? Pier planks will be sold per foot and at a cost that varies depending on quantity purchased. Plank size is 12" wide x 3" deep. Cost is $2.50 per foot 0-50 feet ($15 minimum donation) and gets cheaper the more you buy. The stores and restaurants, in the meantime, all seem to be open for business. Nothing stops beach lovers from enjoying the beach, though. I've seen people come... surfboards, coolers and babies in tow. Be prepared, the beach gets crowded and parking can be challenging (with or without the pier construction). It is a favorite place among locals and tourist visitors. And, lastly, what is so great about the restaurant "The Splash Cafe"... must try it one day. The line was really long and wrapped around the corner. Review #1012 read more
