I have seen this stand in Gávea shopping several times. We contemplated eating here, since there are actually a few tables set up for dining and they have a countertop stove to heat things up. But we decided to buy some pasta and sauce and take it home instead.
They have an extensive menu of cheese, vegetarian and meat ravioli but of course they don't carry everything. Be sure to ask their inventory first. They also have a selection of sauces to chose from as well.
Everything is frozen, which is good in hot Rio weather because it means your goods will make it back home before it completely defrosts. But plan accordingly if you want to prepare a meal immediately. Frozen sauce in a glass bottle takes a while to liquify. I ended soaking mine in hot water to defrost before getting it soft enough to remove from the jar and heat on the stove top.
The prices are quite steep for two person meal (about R$100 for a box of pasta and a jar of sauce) but they are elegant and very tasty. It's an easy meal to prepare that's so much better than frozen food you can find at the grocery store.
I was also surprised to find out the main restaurant is in São Paulo and they have several branches in different cities which are all located in malls and this one is the only one in Rio. read more
