For children there are books and stuffed animals. Books for adults, too! Many focused on wildlife, gardening, hiking and nature. Plus sweatshirts, t-shirts, jackets, hats, fashion jewelry, stunning colorful glass ornaments and some really pretty textured throw blankets. Also a few blankets in PNW patterns. In the back corner there is an area dedicated to food and pantry items from Oregon called the Farmers Market. Jams, chocolate, hazelnuts, honey and other items stock the shelves. Soon they will be selling local beer, wine and cider. The store is laid out nicely with lots of room to browse. Customer service was great! The woman working there was very enthusiastic about their products telling me about the history, the foundation and future plans. No surprise, I ended up buying a pair of earrings! I swear I could open my own jewelry store! Will definitely visit again while making my rounds in Oak Street.

Or a flea market, just inside a tiny store. For me it was a bit too random, made me dizzy to walk around and on this particular day, I just didn't have the patience. But for those who love browsing flea markets to find some random item that reminds them of their childhood or a fond memory, this is your place! Located inside next to Bettie's Place, a popular breakfast and lunch spot. The owner is friendly, has lots of suppliers that scour and source items. One never knows what will be added to the collection. I always wonder if anyone actually buys anything or enough things to keep a business like this, well, in business. I did notice a sign posted above the cash register stating the owner is seeking a new store to rent and will only be in this location a few more months (I was there July, 2021.)

But aside from that the merchandise is very nice and good shop situated in downtown Hood River. The clothing has kind of western style spin to it but in a classy, socializing way as opposed to western wear that is also work wear. Everyone that worked here was very nice and they had some very nice blankets that they had here for sale so that is also something to consider while out and about downtown.

The store is loaded with boots for women and men, all lined up, many with colorful embroidered flowers or emblems. Lots of boots that come up to the knee, as well as the shorter ankle style which is more practical for every day. Along the wall on a rack, there were lots of men's shirts in colorful patterns. To me, an assortment of both Mexican and SW styles. Men's belts, many with intricate detail, caps, hats, wallets, and accessories round out the merchandise. Also shirts and jackets for women, men, and even children. While I wasn't there to purchase anything, I enjoyed checking out the merchandise. The owner, Luis, was very friendly and happy to show me around. He will even place a special order if there is something you want but he doesn't currently have it in the store. Last August I purchased a $150 pair of Topo Athletic shoes from Shortt. The purchase and fitting experience were exemplary. I have worn them occasionally since then approximately once a week for exercise walking. Recently I noticed that both shoes were abrading a hole at the same location on the inside collar. A call to the manufacturer directed me to the dealer to resolve the problem. On my visit to Shortt I was directed to the manager. It was clear from our first interaction that Shortt would not make any effort to resolve the defect in the product. To add insult to injury, after confirming that the shoes had not been subject to excess wear, I was told that I was at fault in my manner of walking despite 70 years of not having a similar issue with any shoe. No relief was offered. While Shortt has a wealth of excellent apparel, shoes and accessories at premium prices, they clearly have no interest in standing behind their products or making any effort at customer service. This is a business that knows it can overcharge tourists who will never be around to seek a remedy for a faulty product. There are several other reputable shoe options in the Gorge and you should give them your business.
