I am not sure why I had The Ruddy Duck bookmarked in my "to try" list. It might have been because in the Yelp category men's clothing is also listed but upon arrival here after looking around dow stairs and upstairs this is definitely a women's clothing store. Perhaps they had men's clothes at one point in time and they phased it out. Some stores do that. Or sometimes I bookmark businesses and the reason why I did that gets forgotten. But aside from that the merchandise is very nice and good shop situated in downtown Hood River. The clothing has kind of western style spin to it but in a classy, socializing way as opposed to western wear that is also work wear. Everyone that worked here was very nice and they had some very nice blankets that they had here for sale so that is also something to consider while out and about downtown. read more

A must visit whenever I am in Hood River. The store, located in a house, is loaded with clothing for the entire family, shoes, accessories, jewelry and gift items. Personally, I like that the staff allows me to wander without constantly asking me how I am or if they can help. I like to browse without pressure and when I am in Hood River, I browse more than purchase! I can't buy something in every store so I walk in and out of the shops and then determine what I can't live without. At Ruddy Duck, I have found and purchased unique handmade earrings, which is my style. I like wearing jewelry that no one else is wearing! On my last visit I found a great black and white boho maxi skirt that transcends all seasons. Especially like that the dressing room has the most spectacular view of the river! This is by far my favorite store! Their selection is great! I always find something fun! Wether it's clothes, jewelry or other accessories. I like that they carry mens clothes too! The clothes are well made and the prices are very reasonable! I can't say enough good things of their customer service which keeps me coming back! The staff are so friendly and welcoming! I appreciate they don't follow me around the store pressuring me to buy an item. They give me space and at the same time make themselves available for feedback if I am unsure how something looks on me when trying it on. Absolutely the best staff and store! read more

I wish I could put zero stars but anyways I was at mikes ice cream with my two year old and family earlier this month when we saw the manager of Ruddy Duck yelling at one of her employees on the side of the building. It seemed very unprofessional. We even overheard her say she felt like the employee didn't fit their demographic. We felt sorry for the employee. read more

A longtime favorite in Hood River. There are a number of women's clothing boutiques and sports apparel stores in downtown Hood River, but I have the best luck here. Primarily women's clothing, shoes and accessories, but they mix in some cute items for girls, like a rack of ballerina dresses. Prices are on the high side, so I typically only buy when I score a deal on the sale racks located upstairs in the loft. Rudy Duck is a local classic for shopping. Whenever I treat myself to a shopping date at "The Duck" I try to buy an outfit. The owner, Cecily, and all of her wonderful employees are great at bringing your items to a fitting room so you can keep shopping without having a ton of stuff in your hands! Once trying on clothes they check in to see if you would like different sizes or if you want them to hand pick some items out. They have a great spread of clothing for all ages and body types. I personally prefer tighter, shape forming clothes, and I can always find stuff that fits me well. I love all of their cute accessories. from jewelry to head bands to tights, they have it all. They have modern patterns; it seems as though they are always ahead of what's trendy! Their prices are a little bit lower than you would expect seeing as they are down town Hood River. Typically, I can get a jacket or sweater, a pair of jeans, and 2 accessories for approximately $150. If these guys ever did a "stitch-fix" style clothing box subscription, I would definitely sign up! read more

Such a bummer! Great customer service today, two nice ladies :) too bad they don't have any plus sizes. Places that aren't inclusive are making a statement about what they want from the world. A target audience should be people who want to shop locally and wear some of their wonderful clothes instead of people who wear smaller sizes, it makes no sense to not broaden that when the majority of American women wear above size 16. Definitely would recommend over some big company! Shop local! This is actually a common problem in hood river. Im sure there would be much more popularity around this place if it was willing to open itself up. read more

Visited this store with the hubby. The clothes were typical Oregon hipster with an outdoor feel. Some nice things to look at. However, and this is a big however, the store earns a one star rating for their customer service. My hubby asked to see a few pieces of jewelry and asked for prices. The sales clerk, rather than take anything out of the case, simply responded with "we have a lot of really nice expensive items" emphasizing the expensive part of the sentence. I was extremely offended that she judged what we could or could not afford. Even more offensive was the fact that the jewelry was $100 expensive not $1000 expensive. The pieces were obviously overpriced, as normally expected for a small shop in a tourist town, but its not as if we walked into a Tiffany's and asked to try on a 4 carat ring. Their sales clerk was rude and offensive. Its not the sales clerk business to judge who can afford what. There were a few items I was interested in, but after her response I didn't want to support a store with such bad behavior. read more

I use to love this shop. My last experience there was so disappointing that I don't know if I'll be back. I walked in on a Friday at 5:50 pm with a group of other women who were also visiting Hood River. I came all the way from Portland. In any case, we were greeted by an officious, tall, female sales clerk who abruptly told us they were closing shortly and was there something we were specifically looking for. It was so uncomfortable to browse with her staring with her arms crossed that we all left. After we walked out and went next door for ice-cream, the group of six other women and I commented that they just lost at least $500 in sales because they shut the door on us. If a store has customers, isn't it smart to welcome them in and make a few sales instead of kicking people out the door on a Friday night. read more

I was a little nervous about stepping into Ruddy Duck, because I know how easily I can be seduced into buying clothing that costs more than I could spend. But the clothes in the window were so lovely that I couldn't resist...and inside I found an even more impressive assortment ranging from basics to very interesting (and some dressy) items. But what really blew me away were the prices! Virtually everything I looked at was less than half the price I would have expected. The caliber of clothing led me to expect a store in which nothing would be under $150 -- in fact, I expected lots of items to be well over. Instead, there was hardly anything over $100, and lots of lovely women's tops, skirts and dresses in the $30 to $70 range. The men's clothing was a little less well-priced, but still very nice. Sadly (though perhaps fortunately, as far as my Visa card is concerned) I didn't have a chance to try on *anything*. But if I were in this part of the world, I'd be eager to do my season's shopping here. read more

I love this store. There is a great selection of clothing, and the men's section kept my husband occupied while I looked around. Great and varied selection for all types of people. One of the best parts about the store is it's feel. The place is open and calm, the staff is considerate and helpful. The salesclerk was great at recommending options for me in the store. I had an all encompassing experience during my visit to The Ruddy Duck. First and foremost, the store is very visually appealing. From the inside out, everything seems carefully arranged and pleasing to my eyes. I wasn't overwhelmed by product or bombarded by pushy sales staff. Instead, I was able to browse the store at a leisurely pace and consult the sales associates with questions at my discretion. Secondly, I was impressed with the quality of the clothing and accessories. I could see myself wearing most everything I laid eyes on and it felt comfortable to the touch. I really value being able to try things on and having them available in more than one style. Lastly, I appreciate the overall vibe of the store. The music soothed me and kindness filled the air. It felt less like a business trying to sell me something and more like a friend advising me how to look sharp and handsome.
