I just bought a new pair of skis from Doug's. I had demoed a pair of Stockli Montero AR on my local ski hill in March and knew exactly what I wanted. Called around the area and found a pair in the length I wanted at Doug's. I talked to Sam on the phone and he got me hooked up with bindings. I drove down this week to the store. Justin mounted them for me while I waited. The new owner Cody showed me around the store and gave me great service as I bought a few cool t-shirts. What a great store. I am almost too scared to take my wife there. They have that many cool clothes. I received nothing but great service from the initial phone call to walking out of the store with my new skis, bindings and t-shirts. read more

I was walking around looking for a bike to rent and came across Doug's and they offer ebikes. The set up was super easy. Walked over to a computer, put my info in, he showed me the 4 Modes ( Econ, Sport, Don't remember the other two ) and off I went. I have a calf strain and really shouldn't be biking but with the ebike it was very easy and no strain on my calf or body. Rode up a road with an 15 degree incline and problem. Wow! I really really really liked this shop! Great for outdoor gear and for the fashions. Customer service was top notch, and I left the whole experience with a smile on my face. I even bought a hat! I was visiting from Portland and heading south of Hood River to do the Fruit Loop. A quick coffee stop down the street turned into wandering the downtown strip and I discovered Doug's. So glad I did. It's a really large store that is packed full of trendy NW outdoorsman clothes that seemed quite reasonably priced. It's definitely not bargain brands, but it seemed to be at a lower price point than what I've found at similar shops in Portland. They have a lot of Banks clothes, which is one of my favorite brands. Brixton, Volcom, Patagonia, and the like. Plenty of accessories like sunglasses, watches, and hats. I really like the vibe of their aesthetic. Downstairs is the equipment area, and while I did a quick loop I didn't pay much attention. I just wasn't in the market for a snowboard, ya know? Seems like some people have beef with their rental operations, but from an apparel perspective, this shop is 5 stars. Love it. read more

I went into Doug's set on a specific ski boot. Ian and Greg sat me down (literally) and we chatted about what I wanted my boot to do and how my old boots felt. Two hours later - Greg had meticulously formed the boots (not the brand I had come in for) to fit perfectly. First let me say... I do not frequent outdoor activities but this was the best snow shoe rental I have ever used! (I used their rental shop across the street) Allow me to explain. This shoe fit so well that I felt as if my foot was being swaddled by a large blanket. And if the fit was not enough... the spikes were high quality and powerful. My family rented 3 sets of skies. Two members were over the age of 60, and one had never skied before. Upon returning the skis they charged us a "tune up fee" on two. They said the skies had major scratches. The staff at Doug's barely looked at them. When we explain how that couldn't have been us because none of us were able to cause that kind of damage skiing, they replied "uh. I am from out of town and looking for a solution for an equipment issue. On two separate occasions stopped into Doug's seeking help. Both times I received excellent service and help resolving the issues.One time in particular the owner stopped what he was doing ,spent over 3 hours repairing equipment I didn't even purchase at his shop but they do represent to perfection . All the staff was kind , curious & patient. John went so far beyond what was needed to make sure my equipment worked properly and safely while in use on the water. I am impressed with their buyer, who buys quality, current styles and excellent brands. The staff both upstairs and downstairs go out of their way to provide the best information and service they can. I suspect based on a number of bad reviews that they fall short on occasion, as we all do, however it has been my experience over the past 10 years that this shop cares about me, my experience, and my business. Don't rent your skis or boards here! So disappointed. Was really excited to be supporting a small local business and made an effort to rent skis before heading up to Mt. Hood Meadows. There was one small little ding on the ski and the guy charged us $45 for a "basic tune." (I'm not a crazy off-piste skier and stuck to trails for the total of 8 runs I did.) So the whole cost ended up being more expensive and less convenient than renting at the mountain. As an out of towner with a husband from White Salmon, I have to say that I've always been so pleased with the service that I've gotten from stores in the Hood River. But I'll be avoiding Doug's from now on. read more

I had a good shopping experince in all with a new pair of ski boots this Season(18-19). They tossed me a birthday discount and include the work if need to gets your boots nice and comfy for a full day of playing! Good price, Fair selection of cloths and gear (seasonal) Knowledgeable staff, Clean store, I will shop this place first in the Gorge and work from there. For ANYTHING skiing related, ask for Greg! I purchased some booster straps for my ski boots but was hesitant to try and install them - drilling the rivets out of the boots myself seemed like a recipe for disaster. Greg had them installed as if they came straight from the factory in 15 minutes, and graciously told me it's on the house! He also clued me in to the fact that I could adjust the stiffness of my boots and that I would benefit from some additional arch support. I can only imagine how amazing and life changing a boot fitting from Greg would be when all this was complimentary. I cannot recommend Doug's and Greg highly enough! Pretty great store. Doug's has lots of great surf/swim apparel, sunglasses, shoes, backpacks, hats, watches, etc. The three times I've stopped in this store we've spent at least an hour looking through the densely packed clothing racks. My only complaint is that their prices are a little steep, even if you don't have to pay sales tax. In this economy I have a hard time paying $40 for a blouse.... So I spent my time sifting through the downstairs clearance rack. They had some cute shorts and tops that were all 60% off. So, 4 Stars for a great selection, and 2.5 stars for their prices. I'd say this is the best store for surf apparel in Hood River. read more

Even though I live in the Washugal Camas area I shop here every time I need clothing. Doug's has the best selection of casual and surf/skate clothing for miles and miles around. They also have a bit of dressier stuff too though cool Cali style casual is their forte. Nice staff, great selection, and a nice store to browse. Prices are not cheap but for this type of clothing they never are, as everything is name brand like Volcom, Billibong, Quiksilver, etc Basically a fun store to shop with a nice selection. read more

Excellent customer service! I wish I got their names but went in today to get skis waxed. A nice fella helped me carry my skis in and they were able to squeeze me in despite the busy workload they had. We are able to enjoy the fresh powder with fresh wax today because of their services. It's Thanksgiving weekend. Generally, I'm not a shopper, as clothing stores are often overwhelming. Especially this time of year. My husband and I came in looking for outdoor gear to try on. Just went in to get a pair of sunglasses with my husband and service animal, and was told they don't allow dogs. I explained to the girl that I have my service animal paperwork for DHS if there's an issue and tried to continue shopping, but she told me that their store policy still doesn't allow dogs. I told her that in no world does store policy override the law, and she continued to give me attitude, so we just left. I would never give someplace my business that disrespects me and others with "invisible disabilities" by being so bullheaded and uneducated. I will never shop here again, and will tell all my wedding guests to avoid it as well. read more

For alpine skis, good selection but poor service. I bias my purchases to local vendors, but don't expect much service at Doug's. I rented some demo skis, but it's odd that their rental shop doesn't open until 9 AM. I liked the demo, so I bought new skis and bindings at peak-season prices. You'd think they'd be highly attentive for a high-margin $1000 sale, but nope. Just mounting bindings is like pleading with them, and they finished a day late. I'll go elsewhere next time. read more

I brought some backcountry skis into Doug's that had been mounted incorrectly by a ski shop in California. Charlie took one look at them and immediately diagnosed the issue and fixed them quickly as I was leaving for a backcountry ski trip the next day. Thank you Charlie for your great service!
