After a little while, that family member brought some Arrogant Bastard Ale for me from Friendly Spirits and I thought I needed to give the place a try. I finally got (and took) my chance. Delighted I did. The store isn't very large, but they're prudent with what they stock. Wines were plentiful in what they deem their "Wine Country," sorted and signed helpfully. Beers are available cold or in their warm shelf segment for specialties. Liquor is in a few runs of aisles like any store. The staff was very forthcoming and eager to assist, which I appreciated, even as I was just getting the lay of the land. Prices were fair - they know what they're doing and charge accordingly. There were a few deals in the wine section, and bonus points for carrying several less-common beers in singles on the top shelf of their coolers at reasonable costs. I walked away with a Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin, Captain Lawrence Imperial IPA, Abita SOS Pilsner, and a Pike Naughty Nellie (all bombers), and a great first impression of Friendly Spirits. Very welcoming atmosphere and it's closer to the house than other liquor stores that my husband and I usually go to so I think we found our new place, even though the prices are a little higher by like 1-5 dollars per bottle, the fact that this place has a great variety with an amazing staff we will just start coming here and not have to drive far.

Watercure is a locally owned distillery that uses locally harvested ingredients to craft small batches of vodka, rum, whiskey, gin, bourbon, and brandy. Their website lists 20 different spirts, so they get pretty creative in the distillery. Everything is made on site, and when I asked to take a look at the sparkling silver tanks where the magic happens, our host happily obliged. They sell Apple Spice Flavored Rum, Vodka Flavored with Cucumber and Mint, Vodka Flavored with Strawberry and Rhubarb, Corn Vodka, Apple Vodka, Wheat Vodka, Shiitake Mushroom Flavored Vodka, Connecticut Corn Whisky, Barreled Aged- CT Corn Whisky, Connecticut Wheat Bourbon Whisky, Barreled Aged Gin, Gin, Rum, Brandy, McIntosh Apple Brandy, 1686 American Bourbon Whisky, Wolf Den Rye Whisky, 1701 Single Malt Whisky, Connecticut Bourbon Whisky, and Connecticut Barley Bourbon Whisky. Pretty impressive, eh? You can get a flight of four samples, or a mixed drink at their bar while you enjoy the super chill atmosphere in an old barn. We had a $14.99 flight of Cucumber and Mint Flavored Vodka, Apple Vodka, Apple Rum, and Strawberry Rhubarb Vodka (which we loved and was clearly our favored sample). As for my bourbon loving buddy, we picked up a 200 ml bottle of CT Wheat Bourbon ($59.99), and when we mentioned it was destined to be a birthday present, our host lovingly wrapped it in plastic and tied it with a pretty white bow! The Connecticut Bourbon was mildly complex with a rich brown sugar and vanilla profile and a deep oak finish. The wheat bourbon was amazingly smooth, and the Corn Whiskey, while not as complex, was solid and flavorful. The corn was my favorite!! My wife had a martini which was spot on and the mushroom vodka was killer!! The tasting room was very welcoming with a warm, wood atmosphere. They offer food, we had cheese and crackers which were priced very reasonably. We will definitely be going back for the amazing spirits and service!

I get that EG is a pretty expensive town ... and normally I don't mind paying a little extra to support a local business but there are bottles of spirits in here that are $20 higher than other liquor stores for the same thing!!! Literallyz I paid $20 more than Haxton's in Warwick for the same item! That is a sort of extreme case ... but on average expect to pay $10 more for any bottle of liquor ... and $4 - $5 more for any 6 pack of craft beer than any other store in the area. Forget about comparing this place to a Total Wine, you can literally save 40% on most items shopping there vs. here. I honestly don't think I've ever seen prices this high on liquor/wine ... Not in midtown Manhattan. Not in my home of West Hollywood, CA. I won't be totally brutish ... they do have a very nicely curated selection of wines and spirits here. You aren't going to find any allocated items here ... No Weller, No Blanton's, No Pappy, etc. but they have a decent selection of bourbon, spirits and a huge amount of pre-mixed cocktails and mixers. They have craft beer ... local and far away brands ... fancy ciders, saki and other interesting but niche selections of expensive single craft bottles. The store is immaculately clean and organized well. It may be the most expensive liquor store I've ever been in but it's also maybe the most well organized. The staff isn't particularly interested in going out of their way to help you. But, if you ask them a question about wines, etc. they will make some good recommendations if they aren't too busy doing something else. I will end by saying that I was in a rush to buy liquor and wine for a dinner party that my house hosts were having. I wasn't looking too carefully at the receipt because I figured everything was just so expensive, it is what it is. However, when I got home, I found out one of the bottles I bought must have been put in the wrong place. They charged me $84 for a bottle that costs $59 anywhere else. It was next to a sign that said $65. For 8 bottles of liquor and wine and a 4-pack of craft beer, I paid more than I did for my first car in 2005. Not even kidding.

I also liked how well marked everything was and it's pretty easy to find what you are looking for (or find something new). I also loved how big their chilled section was. Sometimes you run out of time and need something chilled, here you can actually grab something interesting and not just that status quo options.
