*I am editing the text of my original review after my communication with the owner of Pitchers. I wanted to write regarding a very negative and hostile experience I had while trying to visit Pitchers on Friday 3/12/2021. We wanted to have a drink at a league of her own and saw a sign to check in at pitchers. As we proceeded to walk into pitchers a very hostile and aggressive man who works here, and I believe is the owner, walked up behind and screamed at us asking what we think we are doing. He loudly yelled at us in our face "we are not sitting anyone for the rest of the night, last call is in four minutes!" I can't imagine what we did that sparked his rage and hostility. All we wanted was a drink and would have gladly left and come back another night if he explained in a professional way they weren't taking any more customers. Are all employees at pitchers allowed to act aggressive and scream at customers for absolutely no reason? We were not problematic, we hadn't even said a word to anyone. There is no good reason that potential customers should be treated like we were treated. There was another guy (the host) that was much more professional than the first guy who screamed at us. He explained in a better way why they were no longer seating people. Had this been told to us by him at first, I would've never given this place a low rating. I will update my review if I ever decide to come back here. read more

Went to Pitchers this evening with my parents who are visiting from out of town and 3 friends for just a few drinks to celebrate my birthday. The upper floor was packed way beyond capacity, and yes my parents are older (but cool) so we opted to stay down stairs. The bouncer said we could not stand at the bar and needed to go upstairs- the (very wide) aisle needed to remain open for food servers. There was no way we were going up there so we grabbed a table (there are very few to begin with and even fewer were occupied), had a few drinks and appetizers and a decent time. No big deal at all, grabbing the table was a great option. However, as we got up to put on our coats, briefly say our goodbyes and leave, we were immediately confronted by another employee aggressively telling us to go upstairs (seriously don't understand how they could admit that many people up there per fire code). I explained we are literally trying to leave. You cannot leave without standing up for at least a brief moment to prepare yourself to go out into the winter cold. I had to repeat myself multiple times before he backed off and moved on to harass other patrons who were doing the same thing. Seriously, I get it but the level of aggression over this precious (very wide) aisle was a bit over the top. read more

Pitchers is truly one of my favorite bars in DC, and it's exactly what the city's LGBTQ+ scene has been missing. The spot has three segments: the top floor is your traditional dance floor and bar, with all the energy, activity, rambunctiousness, and alcohol that you're looking for to fuel you through a long night. Their taste in music is...solid, but not quite what I was expecting? Even so, that might have just been the case for the night that my friend and I decided to stop by. We still had a really great time on the dance floor regardless. The middle floor is a restaurant-ish type area, with more seating, food, drinks, and light music. I spent most of my time, however, in the basement. Pitchers' lowest floor is home to a wonderful speakeasy called "A League of Her Own" that has just the most incredible of vibes. The bartenders are remarkably sweet, the drinks are solid, and there's just enough music to keep up the ambiance while not overpowering conversation. There are several little TV stations, some of which were showing movies (I believe they were watching Captain America: Civil War the last time I was here?), and others of which had video games. They had various Mario games, old and new, on various consoles. Pitchers is a great place to visit regardless of the vibes that you're looking for! read more

Pitchers is an amazing place to hang out with friends- affordable bar food, outdoor patios, drag shows on Thursday. The workers there are also very friendly. The only reason I give them a three is because when I went there a few weeks ago the dance floor was too hot. If they are going to accommodate a large amount of people on the dance floor, they need to crank up the AC. Several people found themselves trying to stand under the air vent, which as I reflect on it was quite humorous. They do have good music though. Billboard Top 100 (give me some Whitney, Ariana, and Gaga any day!) I highly recommend Pitchers for anyone who is DC LGBT bar hopping. You may have to take an Uber to get there though. read more

I really like this place. It's a much safer bar and everyone minds their own business. The crowd is great and has so many options for everyone. I would have liked them to have more tap beers. They currently have only 2. The waiters are very friendly and the bartenders are great. Definitely will be visiting here quite often. Always have your ID to get in here. In a world of shrinking LGBT establishments, here comes Pitchers. Two buildings and three stories of safe space. The weekends are busy the crowds are fun. The downstairs on omg the building is called A League Of Her Own, ALOHO. ALOHO is for females only(like the movie with Rosie O'Donnell) The staff is friendly and professional. If looking for a fun crowd with top 50 dance music and good drinks then this is your place. It's a sports bar without the sports ! There are TVs and video games throughout which give it more than a usual meat market vibe and outdoor patios for fresh air and conversations. All though no parking, I would Uber! read more

If you value customer service you should avoid Pitchers. Every single member of the staff here was outrageously rude and unprofessional. The bouncer outside was letting people cut in line, all attractive and white gay men, while completely ignoring anyone who commented on this. He even rolled his eyes and laughed when a woman on line asked why he let in those men first. It got worse once inside! The bartenders blatantly ignored my 2 female friends and I, whilst serving countless men who came to order drinks well after us. Even while we waved our bills in their faces they continued to ignore us. We began shouting for someone to serve us after being ignored for an obscene amount of time. This was when Dave, the owner, approaches us aggressively and tells us we are being too loud. I replied that we are being loud because the service is just terrible and we had been waiting for too long. He got very loud and shouted at us that we are too loud and that we just need to wait for our drinks like "normal" people. We were taken aback and while we tried to continue to talk to him he walked away and began making comments about our appearances to the bartenders and called us loud and annoying. Overall the service was atrocious, the owner was incredibly unprofessional, the music was terrible and the drinks were overpriced. This is clearly only a space for attractive white gay men. Will not ever come here again and I can't warn other people enough about what they are likely to experience here. If I could rate this place less than 1 star I would. read more

5 stars for drinks (specifically the flavored vodka options) 5 stars for bartenders attentiveness and quick service 5 stars for the crowd - the best people come to Pitchers! 0 stars for the DJ last weekend (12/10). Not sure who the heck the DJ was but the dance floor was unimpressed and dying for some gay pop. 50% of the music was just house music with no lyrics. This is a gay bar, play music we can sing to! When we asked him to play ABBA "Gimme Gimme" he shrugged like that wouldn't work. WHEN HAS GIMME GIMME NOT WORKED? A few minutes later he played an ABBA song and the dance floor went WILD. We then asked him to play a Fletcher song "Becky's So Hot." He goes "I have no idea who Fletcher is. And I can't play anything by them because it's a set playlist." First of all, I am astounded that a DJ at a LGBTQ+ bar has no clue who one of the top lesbian artists of 2022 is. Secondly, is a DJ unable to pivot and add a song request to a queue? I think this DJ wanted to be at Echostage. Come on Pitchers, know your queer audience and maybe check the DJ's set ahead of time. read more

This place is one of a kind! It's huge! Different floors and bars, David Peruzza makes sure his staff is well taking care of and that people treat them with respect. Fun place to have a beer or two, enjoy a fun drag show or go "crazy" fun! Nothing too crazy, just a fun place! Whoever have this place bad reviews is because they think they are going to a fancy smancy place, which is not the purpose. This is a sport bar open to EVERYONE! LGBTQ+ and ally's are welcome! Pitchers DC - Great vibes - Gay Bars Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

A little bit of everything. There is a void that cannot be filled after Town has closed its doors, and Pitchers isn't trying to fill it. Yes, it's a massive place where you can assemble with friends. Yes, it has outdoor areas. Yes it has a dance floor. Though there is something else entirely new happening here that I'd like to highlight. First, it's "nooks and crannies" include more quiet corners, board games, and video games. They have spaces to stand up and watch groups of people battle it out in Super Smash Brothers, and they have smaller councils set up to just enjoy classics from your childhood. They have a front enclosed space on the second floor for a fresh breeze, and they have a covered "outdoor bar" that's the perfect amount of covered yet open. This place has a lot of space. This place has a lot of unique space. Second, "League of Their Own" (the lesbian bar in the basement) is a fantastic establishment. It gives women their own space, but the freedom to interact with others just by walking up a flight of stairs. This is what DC definitely needed. Third, they have a whole setup for food. I haven't tried it yet, but the main floor and main entrance is designed just for people eating/assembling to play board games. I've been back three times, and I'm ready for more, especially to see how their dance floor develops. I'm excited to have Pitchers in AdMo and I hope it's here for many more years to come. read more

I would like to say: I had my birthday at Pitchers and had friends gay and straight, male and female in attendance. No one was treated with disrespect. That said, do not bring your bachelorette parties to gay bars! We are are not foreigners performing for your tourist amusement and we are not a sideshow. Great bar to spend time with friends. It can get loud and very packed so it's not the kind of bar where you will meet someone or have a conversation. Bar food is decent. They do a good job in keeping it a "queer exclusive" establishment and discouraging bachelorettes. read more

This is an excellent at in the Adams Morgana area. Multiple areas to have a good time with friends. There are multiple levels in which you can walk around without feeling cramped. In the last floor you can just go 3 stairs up and there is a rooftop. To me that's amazing. Beside the location, the staff is amazing and the owner you can tell out his hearth into this business. The staff was always smiling and willing to help you. This is a great way to start a business, giving the people that go there a great space with a great staff and good food and drinks. read more

Atmosphere is awesome and has a very chill vibe. They took my temperature at the door and were extremely friendly. Our waiter was super friendly and checked up on my friend and I throughout the night. I has their daiquiri alcoholic popsicle which was pretty good. I also ordered their cheeseburgers and fries and it was soooooo good and huge! I was very surprised on how good it was and it was only 12$! Maybe it was the popsicle but I stayed up thinking about this cheseburger. This cheeseburger haunts me. read more

I was here for 30 minutes and someone stole my wallet and phone in the short time I was there. Staff was very unhelpful in my attempts to locate my belongings. Culturally- people were also incredibly rude to me. Would not recommend this as a safe space to any trans women. read more

My friends recently went and they were singled out and harassed by the manager. My friend was singled out by the manager for being loud and told to shut the f*ck up while talking to friends in a loud environment. Good ambiance well renovated place, bartenders have the attitude but not too much just enough to make it cute....good place overall! Unfortunately, when asked for a glass of wine, they do not have bottled wine only canned Pinot Grigio. As a gay woman, I was really excited to try this place out. I'm used to the gay bar scene in Columbus, which is outstanding, so maybe i'm biased? But I brought my girlfriend here for her birthday and I was really disappointed. We got taken upstairs and I was sitting behind a stand up fan all night. The bartender was not attentive or kind at all. The food was outrageously priced and BAD, which shocked me. We didn't know that you had to order food with drinks. Makes sense- people are less drunk, keeps the kitchen busy, and adds to the bill, but the delivery of this information was bizarre. Like we were idiots for not knowing. It also seemed like the pitch was that they were trying to get people to not get wasted from drinking, but the bartender was free pouring (heavily)?? Which makes no sense to me. The bouncer called my sister and her friend "retarded" for making an innocent mistake and going to the wrong entrance (there are multiple bars/floors as well as multiple entrances). I went to Pitchers bar when i was visiting the city of Washington DC last month but unfortunately my experience was horrible with this place.When i first walked in, i tripped over the carpet and the security guard thought i was drunk, which wasn't true. I went to the bar to order a drink and paid for it and the bartender served me the drink but then the security guard showed up and asked him not to serve me. The bartender literally took the drink out of my hand after i paid for it and he said i need to drink water and come back later. It was outrageous and very upsetting to me that they just assumed i was drunk. I went downstairs and asked to see the manager and told him the story- He said he couldn't argue with the bartender if he doesn't want to serve me. After 10 minutes i was incredibly upset from waiting for the drink that I've already paid for and went to the same bartender to ask for a refund because i was ready to just go home. Long story short, i asked for a refund and the manager showed up again and asked me to stop *harrasing* the bartender and that i won't get a refund unless i have a receipt, which i didn't have. The manager literally said to me: Do not argue with me, Do not say another word or else i will have you kicked out. I walked out of the place knowing I'm never going back to it. To the ownerbof Pitchers bar, your establishment owes me 8 dollars for a drink i was never served. You literally ripped me off. read more

We had a party of girls trying to celebrate an upcoming wedding. We were denied entrance because we were a "bachelorette" party. All we wanted to do was get drinks and hang out. Establishments who promote equality should accept everyone right? I think it's unacceptable and should be called out. read more

Great concept -- poor execution. The spaces are great, but what difference does it make if you let too many people in and then harass your patrons for being "in the way"? Posting aspirational signs about inclusion is not enough. The poor management attitudes that left many feeling unwelcome at JR's seem to be present here as well, especially for women. Sure, the basement is a great space for queer women, but don't even try ordering a drink or being accommodated upstairs; you'll wish you'd spent your money elsewhere. read more

Was a regular at this bar because it's a really big space, has food, and a great dance floor. One weird thing about the bar is that you cannot order more than one drink unless the person who is getting the drink is right next to you. But, after the way we were treated last night I sadly won't be going back. My two friends stood in the DJ booth, didn't touch anything, and the bartender screamed at them to get down, which I understand. However he then began screaming profanities at the top of his lungs to four small young women and called us a bunch of b*tches repeatedly. I'm not kidding, he was screaming. He literally chased us down the stairs and through the establishment screaming at us to leave because they stood in a place they shouldn't have. I would expect that reaction if we had assaulted someone or stolen something but that was not the case, all he had to do was tell them to get down. His overreaction was so incredibly out of line, it was insane and confusing and scary. I truly could not believe the lack of respect. The worst part was the manager of the lesbian bar allowed it to happen and had no problem with her employee losing his mind and calling us those names and chasing us out of the building. We won't be going back unfortunately because we thought it was a safe place for gay young women but I don't feel safe there anymore. Brixton the barback has always been very kind, sad we won't be back to see her. The bartenders need a bit more training, they didn't know how to make half of the drinks we ordered. The bathrooms are clean, but the language screamed at us as we were literally running away from that man was not. read more

This is a perfect example of a discriminate gay bar. If you are a person of colors (black, brown, asian), or straight girls, the staffs will not give a crap about you. It's pretty much a white gay bar in the first episode of POSE. They are captivating the opportunity since TOWN was closed. I was glad when they opened since we were devastated when TOWN closed; however, the staffs were so arrogant and ignore people of colors. I can't support that behavior. Seeing that most of the reviews on here are from men, I thought I'd add my take. My girlfriend (lesbian relationship) and I and a few of our friends who are also queer went to pitchers for drinks on a Sunday afternoon. We were welcomed in by the friendly host and escorted to the upstairs room to a table for 5. The manager Dave approached us about 5 minutes after we sat down and bent down to "our level" to tell us to quiet down because it was show tune night. We apologized, and quieted down. Not even 10 minutes later, the table across from us started talking loudly and being very animated, just as loud as we were. They were not reprimanded. Being that my girlfriend and I are both "femme presenting" we believe he thought we were a bunch of straight girls disrupting his bar, which is supposed to be loud anyway. It's a bar. After we cashed out (leaving a generous tip for our server) I approached the manager and asked him if pitchers was indeed a gay bar. He said yes and I then asked why we were seemingly targeted for being loud when the table across from us (again, full of white men) and wasn't spoken to. He got extremely irritated and said that the table across from us wasn't spoken to because they were cheering to the show tunes. I asked him how he would know if we were cheering to the show tunes and he interrupted me saying that we were drunk and loud and needed to be spoken to to quiet down. My girlfriend joined the conversation at this point and asked why he didn't show us to a different table. He didn't have an answer and blamed us for interrupting his clientele (which we were a part of). He proceeded to berate us and ended the conversation by saying we don't care about show tunes and that everyone in the top floor was annoyed with us. Safe to say that my girlfriend and I will not be returning to this "gay" bar. Shame on you, Dave, for your blatant sexism. read more

Just another dive bar w/ rainbow decorations added to Adam Morgan restaurant strip, it's far away from the gay hot spots of the DC gay community like 17th St./Dupont, 14th St./Logan, and U St. area ($30 Uber for a round trip from my humble apartment located at DC gay ghetto to there.) Frankly, this place may look cute, but the drink options are way too limited and weak (you can enjoy a selection of cans like canned wine, though). Foods (frozen?) are mediocre at best (taste like re-heated leftovers). The staff need training too (bartenders have too much attitude). Guess the business is not as good as the owner spins, the owner recently runs a 12-page ad, including the front cover, in a local rag which people basically don't read. It seems that the owner has too many issues w/ the community like Time magazine. In part of that 12-page ad, which is disguised as an "interview", the owner declares that certain members of the community are his "enemies", thus they are not necessarily welcome in his premises, he claims he can lawfully kick them out. The owner hates the social media too, he asserts in the same "interview" that the social media, including Yelp, are "devils". Definitely, I'll not come back to this dive bar, because I'm not sure if i'm one of his enemies --- he can "legally" kick me out if I'm, what is more, I love the "devils" - the social media, I love to go to the social media to exercise freedom of speech from time to time. read more

The worst place Ive had the misfortune of visiting in dc. Came here for drinks and food. It was also the first night the dance floor was opening- which we intended on going to. We were grilled twice by two different people for sitting at a table while waiting for our food and drinks. Thirty minutes in, halfway through our partially cooked, doughy pizza - we were told our table was needed so we had to hurry by a third person. There were literally three other open tables. Really funny- seeing as that we had shared the pizza and were planning on ordering four more dishes. We decided to cut our loses, didn't finish the pizza, and left after we paid our bill. The staff was incredibly rude to us. It is quite unfortunate, as the space is very large and has a lot of potential. I visit dc often as my best friend lives here. Neither of us will ever be back. read more
