Roger and his crew did an incredible job with a large backyard landscaping project. They executed every single aspect of the work beautifully from redoing the entire drainage and sprinkler system to leveling a huge patch of uneven ground to installing fresh sod to planting and training each new flower/vine/tree to grow as intended. They also built new raised planters, fencing and pool equipment covers from scratch. I also want to point out that Roger himself was a pleasure to work with. He was extremely knowledgeable and proactive in finding solutions for any small or large unforeseen issues that came up during the project. We were looking to do a significant amount of work on our yard. We currently are sitting on 12K sq-ft and wanted to add a retaining wall that stretched from the front yard, through the side yard, and went all the way to the end of our back yard. We were also looking to increasing our driveway, relocating our sprinkler system, increasing our front porch & walkway, and convert to a more drought resistant type of landscape. When we found Pitkin and read the reviews, I had thought I had found the perfect company to partner with. Unfortunately, this was the beginning and the end of the honeymoon with Pitken landscape. I called and talked to the owner (Roger) and described what I wanted done. He told me that this was right up their alley and would have his estimator call me back and schedule an appointment. The estimator called, and we schedule an appointment. Now, both my wife and I work and we both wanted to be there, so we scheduled it as late as we could. But my wife still needed to take some time off to make the appointment. On the day of the appointment, I got a call 1-hour before we were to meet and was informed by the estimator that he needed to reschedule. He never called back. Calls to both him and Roger were never returned. So, my wife burned vacation time to meet with them and they never showed. Sorry, but if I can't trust you to keep your appointment and to call me back, how can I trust you with my home and so much Money. We hired Brad Gore to draw up the landscaping plans for the entire property, which were done in extreme detail and with a precise drawing. With plans in hand, I then solicited bids from a number of landscaping outfits, including Roger Pitkin. Roger's bid was neither the highest nor the lowest, but his knowledge and easy-to-work-with attitude won me over. They did a great job. Roger's crew paid close attention to the planting plan, and everything was planted (almost) exactly as called for on the plan. Planting was done in January, 2017 (amid heavy rains), and then really grew fast in the spring. By late August, most things were doing well, but a few plants appeared to be dying off. Roger came by and helped adjust the watering which solved the problem. But what really separates Roger from the competition is the pride he takes in his work, and his dedication to customer satisfaction. Case in point: we had a number of plants that were supposed to grow 4-6 feet high and serve as a hedge along a fence. The plants that were planted were spreading laterally, but not growing in height. My guess is that Roger inadvertently picked up a dwarf variety. While lovely plants, they were just never going to grow into a screening hedge. Long story short, after 18 months of failing to grow taller, I called Roger and told him my sad story. His response was, "How many plants do you need?" I called this company to get a price to remove a 2" layer of dirt from a 8x20 section of my front yard then put down a weed barrier and two inches of Decomposed granite. He said it would be roughly $2000. I figured he might be confused on the size of the job so I explained it to him again and told him my last quote was for $600. He told me "I can do it for a little less than the $2000 but nothing close to $600, good luck"...click. Wow, thats it? You just hang up? He might do good work but ill never know. read more

We found Roger Pitkin and his crew while they were working on a neighbor's yard, and then saw another property down the street he'd done. Both homeowners had very positive experiences with the company. We went to see Roger's "book" at J and W Lumber in Murrieta (where he later bought the cedar timbers for our ramada) and were impressed. Roger specializes in patios, wood patio covers and landscaping. The project is done, we are thrilled, and our old, unusable backyard is now more beautiful than we could have imagined, and we're out there using it every day. What worked for us: Roger worked closely with us through the entire design and project approval (for Harveston community), and then remained flexible as we inevitably made changes to the original design. Roger came in under budget (not counting changes we added). Every week gave us a clear accounting of what had been done, spent, and changed. He and his crew showed up every day between 8 and 8:30a, and finished the job quickly. (We had heard bad stories from neighbors about landscapers that did poor jobs or didn't show up or finish.) We hired Brad Gore and Roger Pitkin to do the landscape design and installation of our entire property (a new build). We were living out of state during the early stages of the job and Brad made the communication process so easy. He listened to what we wanted - incorporating plants that I wanted into the design but also making other suggestions when climate issues made certain plants not a good choice. His suggestions were always spot on. He came in on budget and always met deadlines. Once the design was completed, Roger took over and began the installation. Roger was wonderful to work with. His crew was professional and polite - showing up each and every day ready to work. Roger was also on site each day - he was always available to discuss anything with us and when asked, made some specific plant suggestions when I wanted to add some climbing roses to the design. While Brad's design was followed very closely, if he felt that a slight modification might be necessary, he made sure that he discussed it with us and we were then able to make a decision. The job was just completed and our yard looks just beautiful. I can't wait to watch it as the plants mature. Brad and Roger are a terrific team. Roger Pitkin just installed a large patio at my house in Temecula. He put in pavers, rock wall trim on the house walls, low seating walls, a fountain, a gate, retaining walls, a wall to hide equipment, lighting and electric and patio covers. It was a big project. I considered contractors who gave me less expensive bids but decided not to risk any lack in quality. Roger Pitkin does quality work for sure. He gave me a date to commence and was here for that date. He had his men working every day according to a design by Brad Gore, a very good designer. They followed the plan and only made modifications when needed or when I requested but there were very few. I had objects I wanted to include and they worked them into the design beautifully. I am amazed at the end product, also at the clean up of materials. Roger was available frequently and if I had questions he would come up with the answers in a very timely manner. He was kind to people working around my yard, volunteering to pick up equipment for them if they needed, giving them pointers on how to install the drip system, even lending them some of his equipment so they did not have to stop work. He speaks Spanish fluently which helps. He was very personable and sensitive to my requests. I can't say enough to praise Roger and his men. You just rarely find contractors who deliver such quality and are so responsible today. He has come back to take care of some minor problems that he was able to fix and I know in the future he will fix problems should they occur in any part of his work. The outcome is just beautiful. We used Brad Gore (found him online) to design a complete overhaul of both our front and back yards, as we've lived in our home for over ten years and were finally ready to go for a big change (goodbye huge lawn!). We explained to Brad that we were looking for a process that was seamless between the designer and the landscape contractor because we didn't have time to put in a lot of work day-to-day in the implementation of the plan. We wanted someone who we could hand Brad's plan to and they would make it exactly come to fruition in a timely, professional, and detail-oriented way. Brad recommended Roger Pitkin, and our experience with Pitkin Landscape and Design turned out to be exactly what we were hoping for. He and his team showed up exactly when promised and worked hard everyday (I was at home most days so I can attest to their work ethic) from early morning until afternoon. Roger was on site for at least a portion of most days if not the entire day, and was always very available via text for any issues or questions that arose. I felt very comfortable coming to him with any new ideas or issues during the process because he was patient, flexible, and knowledgeable. His team followed the plan well and were accommodating to changes that we brought up (it's not easy to envision what a design plan will actually look like when it is in your yard, so there were times when we made changes through no fault of either Brad or Roger - just us being indecisive!). Roger's team was a pleasure to work with, very polite, clean and hard-working - and my assurances that this makes a very big difference when you are sharing your living space with a crew for six weeks! Every single day they left the worksite as clean and well-organized as possible, something that we and especially our neighbors greatly appreciated! Our yard has turned out exactly as we've hoped, and we have already hosted so many get-togethers outside - it has extended our living space enormously and we're more often outside than inside these days.
